OurTour Look Around Their Hymer B544 Motorhome on a Campsite in Spain

When we asked what you wanted us to record a video of, the reply we got was 'an updated look around Zagan' (our motorhome). So while we are over-wintering on a campsite in Nerja, Spain we've taken the opportunity to film an updated look around our motorhome and combined it with what we do differently when on a campsite compared to an aire or wild camping. We've also remembered to include a few things we've changed. Enjoy.

    Remember that you owe me £40k. It's entirely down to you two that we bought a 2008 B544 in 2016...... and I owe you a few beers for it. We moved to France in 2019, after some months on the road, registered Humberto as a French vehicle, and use it for exploring the area around Bergerac. This week, Collioure. I love our new home but I also miss our life on the road in Humberto the B544. I still haven't seen a motorhome with as much living space, with as much space for slouching (which is what we do best). Good to see you're still out there. If you're ever just south of Bergerac in SW France....

    I do like a older hymer. You got that for a steal on 2015. It’s madness that now it’s probably still worth that if not more. Trying to find a 544 that has reasonable miles and 5 belts is hard work. People don’t understand I don’t want to have debt and a loan especially at 5.9%.

    For our "drinking " water usage , you know pastis and.........oh yes, tea we carry a Brita filter jug + spare filters. does the job as we also need to keep a supply of cold water in the 'fridge for warm day pastis consumption.. For indoor drying we use plastic coat hangers as they dry the item and then it is straight into the wardrobe. The type with two movable clips on, normally used for skirt sales, are handy for the towels/jeans/track suit bottoms. To top up the water tank we carry an eleven litre watering can with an "extension" pipe to make for easy entry into the fresh water tank filler tube. It's what we find that works for us and and were all given to us by fellow travellers. Our van has been on the drive now for a long time and we are thinking more and more about getting back on the road. safe motor homing and stay safe. Glenys and Fred Chase, Gers region, SW France.

    Thanks for the tour. Very well done indeed. I noticed that you have been down to Marrocos. Question: How this drop down bed works in very hot weather? I have the feeling that since it is too close to the roof, it may be way too hot as soon as the sun starts to shine. Can you comment on that?

    Hi John. The site costs €400 a month. The ferry cost depends on which one you take, the size of your van, the time of year etc. It feels very safe here to us, masks are obligatory everywhere, the COVID rates are very low and it feels safe in other respects too (careful drivers for example). Have a look at The Motorhome Touring Handbook on Amazon for lots more info. Thanks and happy travels, Jay

    Hi guys. We're probably not good examples as we've not toured this winter and apart from two short trips out to the garage and a nearby Lidl have stayed on a site for 5 months. Others on the site have been out to get repairs done or to re-register the van in Spain and we're stopped by the police, but yet others have travelled across supposedly closed borders will no checks at all. We know we can legally drive home, so can head up to Santander, and more and more town borders have been opening up down here in Andalusia, but we can't legally drive into Granada province, for example, unless heading to the UK. It's quite a tangle of border restrictions at the moment! Cheers, Jay

    Can I ask why you didn’t get another dog ? Great video by the way

  • @OurTourBlogVideos

    @OurTourBlogVideos

    3 жыл бұрын

    When Charlie passed away we were heartbroken and could have very easily gone straight out to get another pooch to try and help fill the gap he left in our lives. However a dog is a 10 - 15 year commitment so we agreed that we would wait a year before we even thought about getting another dog. A year passed and while we would still love to have another dog, we would also like to travel further afield, maybe even fly somewhere. So we haven't got another dog... Yet. I am sure we will one day, but for now we are enjoying the freedom of not having to worry about what we will do with our pooch while we are away.

  • @OurTourBlogVideos

    @OurTourBlogVideos

    3 жыл бұрын

    Ah, OK. We didn't get around the rule. The UK left the EU at the end of 2020. We stayed for 90 days in 2021 and then left the Schengen Area. We know of several motorhome tourers who opted to stay in Spain after the end of March and who left after the 90 days with no issues at the border. That might be something specific to the current COVID-19 situation and in future the rule might be enforced at the Spanish border. Who knows? Cheers, Jay
