learned this with Chickens for gangrene, just powder it under the feathers and kept it away from the others! Also used in on a cat as a paste in a puncture wound ( did not bind, just packed and let her loose) closed up by morning. Wondercure !

Thanks! Yes, Goldenseal is a natural antibiotic. Good idea! I went to Coastal to get something for wounds and they had nothing, except some salve that is a repellant. They did tell me flies could get into the wound and lay eggs which could cause worms in horses. Never heard that. Anyhow I got the repellant. I've been using Neosporin, but it rubs off real easy. Plus the horse keeps rubbing the wound on things because it itches. I'm going to try and make a bandage that will stick with gauze and duct tape. Wish me luck.

Manuka Honey is what your looking for. Many years ago my horse cut his pastern open real bad. The vet came out but couldn't stitch it because of where it was. He told me to use Manuka Honey on it. He said it would keep the flies off, was antibacterial and an anti-inflammatory. Very good for dealing with proud flesh. Suffice to say he healed up a treat no scarring. Just bought a jar for $14 as my new horse has just got a rug rubbing wound :(

In the old days lives were more expendable. a few hundred years ago people were far less likely to survive a cut.

Wrong. self care was common knowledge that everyone had back then. People didn't go running to the hospitals for every little thing. People knew how to HEAL rather than just TREAT. Just like he mentions in this video. If you want to heal things correctly, you really have to go back to the old school ways of doing things. Poultices were extremely common back then and most people could go out to any field, identify naturally growing plants that they would use to cover wounds. The majority of people nowadays are actually living shorter lives, with more diseases, and they are becoming LESS intelligent. Have a look at the book, The Lost Ways, or even just go have a conversation with someone that's 50-75 years old about this. I was surprised when my mom mentioned how her grandparents did things like this.

@@mynameisearlb No, I'm correct. A fantasy about the good old days doesn't change the fact that people didn't name their newborn children because it was easier to cope when they died at extremely high rates. Unearthed graves show that people just lived with their now treatable problems and suffered rather than healing them. When people started writing down their experiences they wrote at length about all the ways they were unhealthy and all the ways people died young.
