Our SURPRISING FIRST Impressions of SINGAPORE! 2023

Our first impressions of Singapore! 🇸🇬 Discovering Singapore's Surprising Charms! Join us on our journey through this diverse city as we uncover the unexpected beauty beyond the iconic architecture and financial hubs. From the enchanting streets of Kampong Glam's Arab Street, where we immersed ourselves in the rich culture of Singapore's Muslim quarter with the awe-inspiring Sultan Mosque and the trendy Haji Lane.
Later, we tried to go see the Merlion but unfortunately, the statue is closed so we had to make do with the little version, the Merlion cub... Then, we ventured to Marina Bay, captivated by the breathtaking Marina Bay Sands building and the city's impressive skyline. Dive into the experience with us as we share our first impressions, from window shopping at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands to witnessing the mesmerizing light show at the fountains.
Singapore's surprises await! Stick with us in this Singapore travel vlog to have some fund on our first day in one of the most expensive countries in the world 🇸🇬 We love Singapore and we had a blast in our first day there since there are so many things to do! Stick with us as we will go to some authentic hawkers to try some amazing Singaporean food, visit Chinatown and Little India, Gardens by the Bay, Changi Airport and so much more. Singapore weather is unpredictable but thankfully, the rain is for a short time only. Let's explore real Singapore tourist!

Fun fact: Marina Bay Sands sits on fresh water. It is separated from sea water by the Marina Barrage. The fresh water reservoir serves as a storage area for drinking water before they are treated. The planning took decades before it came into fruition.

The main merlion sculpture itself is an artwork. Need some aesthetic repair every few years as it's constantly exposed to the weather otherwise it will degrade itself.

SG has a habit of regularly maintaining its buildings and facilities. The Merlion was scheduled for maintenance. Bear in mind it hasn't been serviced for more than 5 years. Our wet markets have to be shut down for 2 to 3 days for cleaning and maintenance every year!

Marina Bay Sands Hotel and the lotus shaped Arts & Science museum was designed by Israeli architect Moshe Safdie. He also designed the iconic housing building with a garden in the sky called the Sky Habitat. You can go up to this sky garden...free...and see the city of singapore from a high vantage point. I like his pretty accurate cultural knowledge of Singapore. He has done his research. By the way official language of chinese is mandarin. This is because Chinese includes other Chinese dialects like Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese, Hakka, etc. Singapore does not officially recognise these dialects as the only official written Chinese language is Mandarin (although Cantonese does have a written form). Again there is a reason why singapore chose Mandarin and not the other Chinese dialects.
