this! I always say people wont know the impact of representation, unless they themselves have gone decades without it. Straight people will never be able to fully understand what a dance like this means to us, and thats okay! I watched strictly every year for the past like eight/nine years with my nan, and now watching this routine with her, we were both crying. Im not "out" but im not exactly subtle nor hiding it, amd to see this routine on a show ive watched since i was seven meant so much tome. I sob everytime i watch it. This will go down in strictly history.

It's actually even more than that, the two men dancing yes, and then all the other same sex couples and yet another layer is on top of it. The fact that specifically a black man is also the higher european noble in this scenario (all the others bow to him) is also very meaningful I think.

Totally agree 100%. I said this on FB. For me the best opening dance on Strictly EVER. Everything about this was beyond fantastic.

The fact they showed woman dancing together and men dancing together is amazing. The representation and inclusiveness is so sweet. I love this.

Many will not even know that this was the way way back in history. Dance was almost considered "foreplay" and men and women getting up so close was considered too sexual so, unless they were spouses, men danced with men and women danced with women.

This used to be considered usual dancing. Men danced with men and women danced with women. It has only been made unusual by recent society. However, i just love the way Johannes and Kai are so in step with each other and it is a beautiful dance.

I was moved to tears by this beautiful number. It makes me so happy that Johannes is given a platform to express himself so authentically. Both he and Kai are exquisite performers, and their friendship is great. Tears were flowing. This is why I love Strictly - wonderful dancing and an important message. Sadly, I don’t think I’d be able to see a routine like this on the show in my country.

Same. I was thinking at the beginning how even though they have same gender couples, that hardly ever translates into the pro dances, and then they all started dancing in same gender pairings and I lost it and cried

I dont watch the show, but my mom had it on and I was speechless the whole routine. As a gay woman, I was close to tears. The dance, the song, the outfits, Johannes' emotion at the end, his partner running up to take his hand... Beautiful. And seeing all these comments being so supportive and loving the routine makes my heart so happy.

I am British-Carribbean & gay. Growing up I never expected to see a same-sex inter-ethnic dance. We really have come so far. Wonderful, tuank you all.

Am I the only one who thought this routine looked straight out of a Disney movie? So beautiful...so magical... ❤️❤️❤️

As a gay man married to my husband I found this so moving and emotional. I’m a shy man who is not good at showing my feelings but I cried when I saw this, it is so tender and gentle when they touch. Thank you.

This dance has to be one of my most favourite on strictly ever. I adore these two brilliant dancers so much. It almost made me feel that I was there with them.

This was just absolutely gorgeous. Johannes and Kai dance *beautifully* together. Just... wow.

You could really tell that these two have been friends and dancing together for years, which is part of why the entire Performance was so magical. Johannes shared clips from 2015 on his IG of them dancing together - stunning

Dancing with the stars needs to take note of how a show should really be done. Strictly is the best dance show on this planet and had the best pro dancers than any other. Just incredible

I’ve watched this about eight times already, it’s just so gorgeous. Stunning choreography to beautiful arrangements of beautiful songs, with an inclusive message at the heart of it 🏳️‍🌈 I’m so glad kids watching strictly today get to see this, it will mean so much to so many of them

I know she'd long gone by now, but I give SO much thanks to Nicola Adams every time I watch this. Her choice to ask for a same-sex coupling didn't just open the floodgates, it *broke* them. And I LOVE how we get to watch same-sex dances like this every year now, just as a part of the course. I don't think there's been a year without a same-sex coupling since her and Katya either. And now other dance shows are following suit. I just love it, and I wish I'd grown up seeing this level of representation.

This number brought tears of joy. As a gay man who’s had crushed dreams throughout my life, but who is finally finding true happiness, I saw reflected myself in it. Both my daughters love Strictly - I’ve been less of a fan of late. They both dance. BUT this was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Johannes always makes me smile and Kai? Rachel, Some people just hate everyone it must be in their d.n.a. Small miserable lives and minds, my first ever comment six years ago on a series called ‘Outlander’ I received a hate message from a complete stranger, I could have ignored it but I was so upset and in shock I challenged the perpetrator and explained my situation and comment which was personal to my health and still is, I received an immediate apology but the damage was done! Some people speak before they think unfortunately, it hasn’t prevented me commenting six years on, and I have received some wonderful messages from kind hearted people, some of which are now my close friends, I consider myself most fortunate, this performance from these professional young men is the best I have ever seen personally! “👌”

Well said! Next year we need a drag queen! Courtney Act did an amazing job on the Australian version! It’s wonderful to seeing them normalising same sex couples on the show. So inspirational for a younger LGBTQ community. I wish there would have been this sort of representation on the Telly back when I was young

I think the way Strictly have done it this year has been commendable. I just hope John and Johannes remain in the competition til the end (and win) and don't fall victim to covid like last year's Nicola and Katya.

honestly the most beautiful things i've seen on strictly. the moment all the same-sex couples paired up, i was crying. absolutely beautiful.

This brought me to tears. As a South African living in China, Johannes had me bursting with pride. Beautiful!

It felt like I was watching a beautiful Disney movie dance with two princes instead of a prince and a princess, so beautiful ❤️

This brought tears to my eyes... Absolute perfection. I am a man who has always wanted to dance publicly with another man, but I have never allowed myself to do so for fear of how it would be received. This was such a beautiful scene, and so completely natural, and it gives me hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Taylor Swift needs to be sent this footage. She will be so impressed that her song was used for this routine. Anyone who is fan of Taylor will know she is super into gay rights: her song 'you need to calm down' explains this in full!!!

Nice to see proper ballroom group dances again rather than theatre. Plus it's nice to remember you can dance on your own, with opposite sex or with same sex. Dance is dance, a representation of emotion with the body with anyone or without anyone. Enjoy it

@@laughforlife3539 Lillia was my favourite when I was a kid. Then flavia and vincent. I understand that some dances can lend to be made a bit more “modern”. But there’s something much more special when the dances are traditional. Also do you remember when there was 2 dances a week that everyone had to do? Like everyone would have to do either a waltz or cha cha one week, then switch the following week. It was easier to judge couples against each other more fairly

Where is the Latin 4 and 1 beats in the music it's not just about the feet. Sorry got carried away. I wanna be swept away with Frank's under my spell or zing went the strings of my heart for quickstep or even reet petite to the jive. I agree the dances are all over the place now. You can't compare. Couple choice and Charleston are obviously gonna get 9 and tens. Kinda not fair when somebody doing a foxtrot or samba lol

When I’m despairing about the state of the country I come back to this video. Strictly got so many ofcom complaints the year before because Johannes danced with another man for barely a minute and they responded with this. Perfection 🏳️‍🌈

I have never seen anything so beautiful as this in my entire life. This moved me on so many levels. This is something I will remember for the rest of my life. This is the type of love so many of us dream of and finally it gives us all hope of what could be.

Johannes' honest emotions during the filming of the dance is what gets me

This was by far and away the best pro dance I've ever seen on the series. The music, the choreography, all of it was simply perfection. Watched it several times now! Kai has been a tremendous addition to the lineup, he is a truly fantastic dancer! And Johannes looks a different person this year! He seems so full of life and passionate! I'm so happy for him.

I know this is all about the dancing, and it was so beautiful to watch. Yet I have to say just seeing the way Johnannes smiles and how his eyes light up with every performance just warms my heart and makes me smile with him. A beautiful person and soul.

This was honestly one of the most beautiful performances I've ever seen.

Was absolutely living for King Johannes! Loved that they selected him for the role, especially when you consider it would be the least expected. And Kai makes for such an elegant, gentlemanly partner. Loved this, really gorgeous.

This is how all pairings should be seen to dance…..totally natural, so beautiful, so graceful, so mesmerising and not treated like a ‘novelty act’. I will never ever tire of watching this. Stunning. X

Yes, he died intestate, but the property should have automatically gone to his partner. He worked as manager at a school outfitter's, so he would have lost his job if he'd come out.

What an incredible moment for television. Never has a dance made me so emotional. BBC, know that this has touched our hearts and for many of us, this will be one of the very first memories we get to see people of the same gender dance beautifully together. How wonderfully amazing for a child, adolescent or teenager to view this video. Why? It will alleviate stereotypes that have gone on for centuries in our culture. They will see themselves mirrored and represented in real life situations

Loved everything about this dance. What I also enjoyed was the speed of Johannes and Kai's movement around the floor. They took up hold and then 'whoosh' they were off, spinning and flying around the dance floor. They covered so much distance that the floor needed to be about twice the size! Every contestant should watch this as an example of the movement and drive that the judges are always asking for. Brava to all, pride and joy.

This is something that would have benefitted from being at Blackpool with the large dance floor. But what also helped it look so sweeping was the camera movement. The way it follows them round gives it extra motion

I would be happy to see this dance every week, it was amazing and nearly got me crying. They all danced that beautifully especially Kai and Johannes. This is the greatest pro dance that has ever been done on strictly. On a season of 1st male couple partnership, this dance moved me more than any. As a straight man what it showed to me, was the sheer joy of dancing, the female pros were partnered with females and the male pros were partnered with males, but it didn't matter, the sheer joy that was transmitted whilst dancing to that beautiful piece of music made me think differently than I had thought before, and that always has to be a good think. Thank-you Strickly ❤

Exquisite. The music was spot on and the crescendo with the dancing brought instant tears to my eyes. Kai and Johannes were pure joy as they danced, and when they all joined in I was crying! The elegance, the bows, the romance, had to be one of the best routines they have done - and there have been so many amazing ones!

I can't believe how beautifully emotional this made me especially when Kai stepped up to partner with Johannes! The entire opening was beautifully done. These openings that showcase the different professionals of the show are incredible. Thank you from the US and for showing everyone what could be.

The bit were Kai runs up the stairs to bring Johannes down at the end 🥺

This is honestly so beautiful and the representation on strictly this year is going to help so many, Johannes was a perfect fit to play the king. Him and Kais friendship is amazing too

Kai has been an absolutely superb addition to the show.

I know it's acting as well, but honestly when Johannes and Kai started dancing with those huge smiles on their faces it looked soooo genuine! It alsmost made me cry and jealous because I also wanted to feel that way. Beautiful choreo. I do wish that they would do same sex couples and mixed couples at the same time to show that both are even and it's not either or.

Kai is a delightful addition both professionally and personally... ...adore Johannes...the two of them are so smooth... 🇿🇦

I truely believe that Strictly come dancing have become the worlds fav dancing program, in the last season they took a very big risk with two men dancing together, I think this was the best thing they ever did, they have bought dancing into this century with a bang, well done everyone, I love the show even more now and cannot wait to see what you bring next.

This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen and I grew up with the Bolshoi. The music, the choreography, everything was sublime. But the most exquisite is Johannes and Kai together in what can only be described as a celebration of human spirit. Bravo!

This moved me more than ANY other strictly pro routine. I was sobbing by the end. A mixture of the strings, the music, the choreography and the fact that FINALLY you decided that having 2 men as the leads in love... which was long overdue but at least you did it eventually. I should have been typing this 15 years ago but hey ho. In a way, it was worth the wait. Stunning. Thank you.

Proud to say I cried when they all danced together in same sex couples. As an LGBTQ+ dancer myself it made me believe someday I could do the same.

Magnificent! I can only imagine how my life may have been different had I had the opportunity to see something like this on television when I was a child. Brilliant story telling. Brilliant choreography. Brilliant execution. It's now hard to imagine why Strictly fought this inclusion for so long.

@@TigerPrawn_ i guess they meant woke as in like "fake woke for publicity". It didnt feel like a stunt or a cash grab or something to just get more views, it felt like a genuine tribute to lgbtq love. At least thats how i interpreted the comment

I have watched this dance over and over, I have never been as moved with a dance like I have been with this one. The most beautiful dance by the professionals ever. I will never tire of watching it, love Kai as the new edition to Strictly, I hope he stays for many years to come 💞💖

Adored this dance. Lover is mine and my husband's wedding song and this dance is just stunning. It had me in tears.
