I wanted to go to further education after high school. my parents had no money, I had no finances. I joined the National Guard and went to army basic training at Fort Knox then on to my job training. I came back to the North Dakota national guard-- 75% of my tuition was covered. after getting my bachelors degree, it allowed me to go on to medical school. Thankyou Army Best think I ever did. Became a man instead of a kid, loads of maturity with some boots up my arse for correction. Where would this country be without young men like Rhett? The most honorable choice, he just made. Interesting the number of veterans that sub your channel. I pulled the trigger when I was 17. Dad was enlisted at the time so that made my mom two blue stars when we deployed. Rhett did good by joining the guard. He will get GI bill which helps for college etc. My parents didn’t know until I asked my dad to co-sign the enlistment contract because of my age. Thanks for the video. Rhett will come back a mature man with military bearing.

58 years ago this month, I made the decision to join the U.S. Air Force without telling my parents first. I was in basic training 5 days after I made the move. They fully supported my decision. Things were different then. It came down to me joining or being drafted into the Army. I volunteered for 4 years of my life vs. two years of being sent to Vietnam. While I didn’t go to Vietnam, I end up maintaining aircraft that were bombing over there. I do not regret the decisions that I made. The military made me a better person.

Brings back a lot of memories of when our sons joined the military and left home, our youngest served 30+ years, so proud of all the young men and women who serve in all branches of our Military. Heath and Cedar, you raised a fine young man, he'll do great! Keeping him and all of you in my prayers.

My family has been watching your family for 6 years. My wife cried when Rhett announced that he had joined the military. You two have raised a wonderful son. We watched him through the death of his girlfriend and the compassion he had. We watched him through his truck accident and how you allowed him to work through that event. He's an AWESOME son.

I spent 23 years in the US Army culminating in my Retirement as a 1SG in 2021. It was a tough life. Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan multiple rotations to Korea. It was 100% worth it. I still teach Soldiers today in a civilian role here in Oklahoma. Proud of your young man. You prepared him for this and he will do great.

My husband joined the military after we had been together for almost 10 years and two kids. I understand your feelings. My husband went infantry at 24 years old. He served two tours in Iraq. I explained the feeling like someone died. It's so final when they leave and there is nothing you can do.. as a mom you fix things and there is no fixing this. With that said the pride and love you also have is undescribable.

Dropped off my son 6 months ago for boot camp and now he's loving it. Boot camp is of course the worse part of joining the military, once he graduates, it'll get better for him, as parents we will always worry about our kids. I've been watching your channel since you built the bunker on the hill for your water storage and your place looks amazing. Look forward to the next episode.

Army vet here. When it time for him to “graduate “ from basic, go to see him “ graduate.” My parents didn’t, but went to my younger brother’s graduation. They told me later that they regretted it. Rhett will be fine. You raised a wonderful young man. You have a lot of veterans watching your channel, we are now part of your extended family in another way. If you have any type of questions just ask. We can give you our perspective. Now is the time for Rhett to spread his wings.

Guestroom is looking wonderful. Thank your son for me for his willingness to do this. I did 5 years in the Army reserves, hubby did almost 13 active Army but got out due to health mess from Dessert Storm. My father did 20 years Army, oldest brother - 6 years Navy, next brother - 4 years National Guard. A few weeks into basic and he'll be able to call home, so be ready. Right now he needs to sleep when the DI's aren't messing with them, LOL. Thanks for sharing. God bless and protect.

You guys are the best a young man could ask for when joining the service. I left for the Marine Corps at age 17 in 1975. I didn't get the same sendoff you guys gave your son. I wished I had but don't regret a day in the Corps. It changed me as a person and as a man. Once a Marine always a Marine.
