Our Skin & Collagen-Looking Younger, Longer

Ғылым және технология

Our most recent episode of the Lifespan podcast is on the science of looking younger, longer (Episode 6). In this episode, one of the topics Matt and I cover is our skin and the importance of collagen in maintaining skin health.
Collagen is a protein that is a key component in the makeup of our bones, connective tissue, and skin. It is the most abundant protein in the body. Three fourths of our skin is collagen and a third of all the protein in our bodies is collagen. As we age however, collagen breaks down and becomes harder for the body to make.
One potential way to increase collagen as we age is to ingest it. Breakdown products of collagen called peptides make it into the bloodstream and seem to activate the growth signaling protein called mTOR and induce collagen synthesis. Recent studies show that both Vitamin C (a cofactor for the two enzymes required for collagen synthesis) and physical exercise within 60 minutes of consuming collagen support its uptake into the system.

As regards collagen. I went through chemo. My skin was dry and rough all over my body for 18 mths as radiotherapy also disrupted my lymphatic system badly. I take 20-30grms of collagen a day, in coffee or a cold drink. After 30 days my skin was feeling smooth, moist and rejuvenated. After 3 mths my skin is looking and feeling amazing, it feels like baby skin. My joints dont complain as much. I am 63. The jury maybe still out but the practical benefits definitely display themselves for me.

    2 жыл бұрын

@@LTPottenger Well, if you give your body glycine, it needs the other amino acids to construct collagen. You might get those elsewhere, but why not consume amino acids in the amounts provided by nature? For example, I'm aware that there is some research suggesting collagen before exercise may reduce injuries but if you were to only take glycine, the body may have a lot of glycine available but too few other amino acids to effectively build collagen and repair connective tissue. Therefore, the results of that research might not hold true. I actually take a mixture of collagen and whey protein to ensure I'm getting a complete amino acid profile.

@@jsmith7888 Yes! I love the stuff! I have been using retinAL for awhile now, which is Avene's retinaldehyde 0.1 formulation and I slather it all over my face and neck every single night. It doesn't cause any issues for me at all. The only reason why I suspected that chlorella + resveratrol + NMN works great is because of my FEET. I never ever put any expensive face creams or lotions on my feet, but a few weeks back, when I went to get a pedicure, my pedicurist was telling me, "Wow! You have very soft feet with no wrinkles! Do you use anything on it?" I laughed and told her my feet got nothing but soap and water when I showered. Then I got to thinking she was right. It wasn't just my feet, it was the rest of the skin on my body. All was softer, plumper, more supple, and it wasn't because of retinol because like my feet, I don't slather it on my elbows or my knees either. It had to be the supplements I was taking.

The latest Wifi frequency (5Ghz) has devastating effects on our skin and hair. Through continuous broadcast of wirelessly connected devices such as a Tablet or Laptop, the EMF is causing cells to age unnaturally and hastens the aging process. Seeing people age easily 15 years(and not in a healthy way) within just a couple of years has been on my mind for years now and I have found little to no research done on this new phenomenon. Some people seem to be aware there is somethign strange happening but as most people cannot feel the fields of the wireless frequencies, the probability of this technology being the cause of it, never occurs to them. As a person who is sensitive I have experienced the sensations of my skin "pulling" like being stretched as well as it feeling as if it's being "dried" or in the process of being, and always having had good genes, I used to look 10+ years younger than my real age. Even at 35 people mistook me for a 20 year old, but since this new frequency got added, my skin aged abnormally on my face and hands especially. I don't know if this could be helpful for any research or why this has such an effect on our skin and hair, but no one is researching the effects of this frequency.
