Looks like a reversed engineered Log Max head with a 360 degree bearing and gear. When at Cat Forestry, way before the Weiler purchase of the Cat Forestry division, we installed them on the old 320 forestry excavator and the 521 and 522 zero tail swing bunchers. The Log Max system was hell to program!

Hey John. Fellow Maine logger here. I've been in a processor for quite some time now. Started out with Timbco's, one with an Ultimate 5300 head and another with a Quadco 5660. After that, I moved to a 501 with the Skidmore 4 roll setup. Going from the Timbco to the 501, I found it to have an amazing lack of power. Of course with 3 pumps in the Timbco's, you can multifunction all you want. The 501 was dead in the water comparably. I absolutely loved the head, though. After that I got into a John Deere 753 (my current machine) with the Skidmore CF-20, converted to a two roll setup. I can't say enough good about these heads. I love them. I also had the opportunity to run a Waratah 622B dangle head and absolutely loved the tech and automation that is built into the system, but the dangle head, in my opinion, is absolute trash compared to a fixed head. I loved dialing in pressures, feed speeds, top handling and all the other stuff to streamline my processing. It sounds as though this Weiler head is a mixture of the two. A Skidmore head with Waratah (TimberRite)computer tech. Is that the case? Also; do the Weiler machines have more power? I'm constantly multifunctioning (tracking backward while pulling the boom in, swinging and moving the boom while feeding a tree through the head, etc.) and the 753 doesn't miss a beat. Is this possible with the Weiler? I wish there were more of these machines in Maine. I'd love to go see one work sometime.

Weiler website states the 157 as having 184hp. The tag on the engine states it has 160hp. It uses the same pump as the 501. I do not have experience with a 157 with a fixed head but I do with a dangle head. It has limited multifunction capabilities. While the fuel economy is very good it was not a good fit on my jobsite as any savings from economy were wiped out by the lack of production. I upgraded the machine to an H457 and its an animal and very good on fuel so I gained a huge amount of productivity and am still saving money because the fuel burn is wayy better than what I had before. Its a 3 pump machine so multi function capability is great and its actually not alot more money to purchase in the grand scheme of things. Depends on your jobsite and what you need I guess.
