Our NARROWBOAT HOME Is Out Of The Water | CANAL ADVENTURES Gone Wrong Ep 60

We still don’t know what we hit, but we needed to assess the damage to our narrowboat! The only way of doing that was to take her out of the water at ‪@churchminshullaqueductmari473‬ and that’s a whole adventure in itself! It's a short hold up to the start of our next big narrowboat adventure, as we meet friends ‪@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked‬ to cruise the Trent & Mersey Canal, towards the Macclesfield Canal and on to the Peak Forest Canal.
Hello! If you are new here we are Caroline and Pete, and 2021, after 10 years living in Texas, we sold up and moved back home to the UK to live full time aboard a 60ft narrowboat, One Day More, with our West Highland Terriers! Join us in our day to day life as we continuously cruise the canals and rivers of the UK. All of the ups, and the downs and everything in between!
If you would like to support our channel you can buy us a coffee or the westies some treats here www.buymeacoffee.com/onedaymoreN. All donations are put back into our channel, we are currently saving up for new audio equipment.

Greetings from New Hampshire USA! Have been enjoying your travels for several weeks now. Will have to go back at some point to start at your beginning. Truly appreciate your efforts to highlight all of the details as you navigate in the UK. From scenery, music & filling up with water or even getting rid of your daily trash you make all so real. Heartwarming adventures of a lovely couple & their four legged furry sidekicks. (Wish that they could talk & could hear their thoughts -lol). Thanks so very much for sharing! Stay warm & be safe! PS - GREAT teamwork!

What a lovely comment to wake up to Vicki! Thank you so much. We love that we are able to bring you along on our travels and show you a little of our beautiful country by the power of KZread. We never quite made it to NH sadly, during our years in TX. Our travels were often limited to where our acting son was in shows for the summer! 😊

The map and voyage plan at the beginning of your vlog is an answer to my navigator prayers and dreams. As a former Navigation Officer in the US Merchant Marines, and a future traveler on the "Cut", I've often wondered why none of the vloggers prefaced their presentations with this valuable guide. It's something that every navigator does before getting underway, and will definitely improve the viewer's experience. I've watched so many narrowboat vlogs over the last few years that I can almost see around the corners before they make the turn...lol! Thanks for this addition to your vlogs. Keep up the good work. Cheers!!!

That’s so wonderful hear that the maps are appreciated! My next goal is to animate our route, and I’m researching how to make that happen with the software I use! When watching the many, many narrowboat vlogs ourselves, before we moved aboard, we liked to see where people were in the country, so I tried to include that in our videos too.

The boat felt so much better with the new prop. We hadn’t realised how bad it had got until we had the new one. The only issue we had at the beginning was the new prop ‘singing’ and you can hear that in the next video, sort of a high pitched whistle, until it settled into position. We said we would be traveling for the next week or so with the boys, but if actually turned into 7 months! So they’ll be featuring a lot in our next videos, as we travel down to the Crick Boat Show in their old boat, and then cruising with them for a few months in their new boat. Fun times indeed! Thanks for watching 😊

Watching their vlogs I know how much they valued your friendship and support. I'm snuggled up indoors on a Saturday afternoon watching you both doing what I so miss doing now. I won't say 'safe travels' as this video was last year but will suffice with 'take care'.

We didn’t realise how bad it was until it was out of the water! That’s the downside. Only being able to feel through the weed hatch, or try and see the damage through murky water 😳. It’s funny how many clips we have of Poppy loving your vlogs 😂❤️

I love the idea of this life, but the locks would keep me from bothering - just too much messing around because there are too many of them - I think I would just find a lovely long canal with few locks & stay within it ! Thanks for the adventure tho, it's easy to enjoy these trips when you are sitting watching others do all the work ! Amazing how efficient & simple that repair was !

Hi Veronica, sometimes we do feel quite daunted when faced with a large number of locks in a day, but on the other hand it’s a necessary part of the adventure. We have also had some of the best conversations with other boaters at locks, all working together to get through efficiently. It’s lovely finding out everyone’s story as to how they are on the water. The Aqueduct Marina staff were definitely very efficient and we were very well looked after! Thanks for watching 😊

We have been coming over for years from Canada to narrowboat, and now that we're retiring we're going to buy our own and cruise full time next year. Hi Nathan & Shannon! Exciting times ahead for you guys! What a wonderful plan! We used a pet transport company to bring the three dogs over. Quite an expense for us, as you can manage the process yourself, but we decided it was a necessary expense. We were having to juggle the sale of our house and furniture, shipping a crate of belongings, plus our own vaccinations and testing at the same time, due to Covid travel rules, and there were just too many things that could go wrong. We used World Care and had wonderful service www.worldcarepet.com/ Keep us updated on how things are going! 😊

I can't believe how quiet your boat is, I thought it was electric and had to go back to some older videos to confirm it is not. Maybe the engine bay has a good seal or dampening? Might even be quieter than Paul and Anthony haha. Don't tell them I said that.

I won’t say a word 😂. We have a faithful diesel engine, and have been contemplating having a hospital silencer fitted as we heard (or not heard) a very quiet diesel boat with one fitted. Pete fitted a layer of soundproofing foam to the underside of the engine board, which does help dampen the noise somewhat too. Thanks for watching 😊

I’m sorry we are so behind, but we really can’t do anything about it as we have so much footage to catch up on. My Dad was very ill last year and I had to take time out from filming and editing to take care of him, and help my mum get to the hospital until his passing. It’s takes a lot of time to edit our videos and maintain the quality and I don’t really want to rush and compromise that, plus it’s our own diary of our travels too. Our Instagram and Facebook accounts have more up to date content. Thanks for watching 😊

Hi guys, I use the canalplan site when I hire. I will be picking up a boat from North Kilworth in February and doing an out and back trip. It’s a very useful tool, the only issue I have is that it chooses random p,aces to end each day if it’s not near a recognised mooring. I’m glad the damage was only to the propeller, it was quite severe though 😂 hope the meal was nice, have a great weekend

  • @onedaymoreaboard

    @onedaymoreaboard

Hi Paul, you’re right about Canal Plan choosing a random place to stop for the night, and for that reason we tend to just use it to get a rough idea of how long the trip will take and how many locks. We quite often search the narrowboat Facebook groups for posts about places we are heading to see if there are recommendations for mooring spots. The damage to the prop was worse than we thought, although the massive clunk when we hit something should have told us it would be quite bad! We are glad it’s all sorted now though. Thanks for watching 😊

There are several groups on Facebook, mostly generic like the Friendly Narrowboat and Waterways Group and the Narrowboat and Canal Lovers Group, but also some more specific like the Llangollen Canal Users group. I just search in those groups for wherever we are heading like ‘mooring Rugby’ for example.

Here it is on KZread, and I just noticed that someone has put the lyrics in one of the comments kzread.info/dash/bejne/YoGl08eRptHRZ5s.htmlsi=_wcY-sPdMf9H7TgR 😊

  • @onedaymoreaboard

    2 ай бұрын

Hi John, we did notice that the tiller was much smoother, there had been a minor vibration thru the tiller from the bent propeller. The other thing is that since the new propeller is new and perfect it does ‘sing’ whenever we are in tickover but not at higher revs. You might notice the singing sound on the vlogs. We’re hoping this will subside as the prop begins to wear in, if not we may have the trailing edges scuffed slightly next time we are out of the water. 😊
