@Valerie O'Brien Everything has its pros and cons. But the reality is that Britain couldn't afford loss making industries like railways, airlines, steel and others. Look at South-East Asia where nationalised industries are still a thing, and look at how they lag behind still to date. Someone had to step in and get rid of this mess.. Yes, I do agree that there were many people who suffered, but ultimately it turned out to work for the masses. Britain today is developed, rich and a respected state. Britain is always at the forefront of every international forums. Margaret has made us understand that Governments are only to make policies for the betterment of the people, not to own industries and create unfair business conditions. I am a life long Labour Party voter, but I have to be honest and say that since Labour elected its current leader, and starting espousing socialist, very socialist ideas, I haven't voted Labour since, and it made me think... I've always respected Margaret Thatcher, and when I had to think about who I'd vote for, it suddenly occurred to me that New Labour ideals were actually borrowed from Margaret, the idea that business must be able to compete, and that the lack of competition when business is nationalised leads to poor service, and bankruptcy,. I guess I think of Margaret as a Liberal, with Conservative monetary views, as let's not forget she made it possible for council tenants to buy their homes, and she was a great believer in the NHS...so yes I suddenly realised the Margaret Thatcher had actually unwittingly created New Labour, and now in a time when Labour have taken the route they have, with a leader who didn't want trident, or for us to have a nuclear deterrent, and a man who wants to renationalise all sorts, I of course couldn't in good faith vote Labour. I looked carefully at you're party and could come to no other conclusion than you were the party with the leader who's policies most aligned with my views. I can't promise that will always be the case, maybe its the start of me becoming more Conservative, but until Labour revert to the sensible views of New Labour around the economy and nuclear defence, there's no way I can cross that box. Sorry its a long one I just wanted to point out that Baroness Thatcher was also responsible for the birth of New Labour, and the idea that a party could endorse NHS and housing, and social care whilst also believing that capitalism was an important backbone to any country.

Zakian 3000 that may be so and I’d add she closed down the coal mines all around England and smashed the corrupted unions and she was ruthless. But she was a unionist and would have cared for Scotland in the same way as the other home nations. She came from Lincolnshire, which is about the most neglected area in the U.K. by the Tories because they take the voters there for granted. This has to be done economically, it was tough medicine but the U.K. as a whole grew stronger and the Barnet formula (which as a one nation Tory I am in favour of) couldn’t be funded the same way it is now to improve prosperity in Scotland without these measures. Post brexit you will see some amazing things in Scotland, especially if the Tories roll out the super charged free port/free enterprise zones that they are planning. Also Northern Ireland will be connected to Scotland via a super structure bridge and also HS2 will ensure great infrastructure as this will be extended to Scotland. You need to ditch the SNP and socialism, it doesn’t work, they are cancer for Scotland and they will be ruinous.

If you give these people their way, the result is that things like libraries, green maintenance, art activities, police, etc., decrease or even disappear, even road maintenance is reduced. The same people who are the cause will nevertheless complain and shout MAGA (vague talk about saying a spell and everything will be like the 50s again....the good old days you remember. The time when the rich paid up to 92% tax and there was money for "everything" and not that huge state debt of 32 trillion dollars where 1 man (trump) alone has caused it to rise by 7 trillion (the partying has ensured that the poor rightwing workers (most poor states ) told that trump is great. While he often did the opposite of his election promise and asked this very group for money and just robbed I have no other words for it. We in Europe are amazed that these people against vote their own interests (you can also say that they don't realize how they are cheated by that scammer)

In 2021 where are the leaders ? Maggie was a leader of the highest order together with Ronald Reagan. She belived in freedom like no other. A true British patriot. I remember the 1970's too well, terminal decline it seemed. She did not accept that. She saved this country. Boris, take note and all you other career polititicians !

I loved Maggie and her determination to get things done. A great example of how a Prime Minster should be. God bless you, Margaret!
