Our Living History | Mobile, AL

History rarely follows a straight path, and Mobile, Alabama’s history is no different. Our 300-year story winds and turns like the Tombigbee River. And like that river, we have embraced the currents that have made us who we are today. Our traditions span centuries, but it’s far from over. Come Visit Mobile’s living history and help us write the next chapter.

I'm about to be buying a nice piece of forest land in mobile county. I'm hoping to find cool stuff in my woods, but what kind of things might I expect?

Nice video. Just hate how Mobile destroyed itself. Could’ve been a city like Nola, Charleston or Savannah. Yet, they decided it was best to destroy everything that was beautiful and unique to the city.

@jonnyneace8928 urban renewal, for one. Poor investments and not investing into the history like the cities I previously mentioned. If you’ve ever spent any time in those cities, you would understand what I’m talking about. It’s night and day.

Lol... I love New Orleans and I'm born and raised in Mobile. New Orleans has gotten horrible in the last 10 years with crime and homelessness. As for Mobile, I first started building homes in the 90s. All the historical homes have to be restored like they were built. You can't change much. Mobile is good about maintaining it's history around the downtown area and Springhill area. What ruined Mobile was Hurricane Katrina and in the influx of displaced people from New Orleans and other surrounding areas that caused crime to skyrocket. My grandmothers house was in the Navco area right on Dog River when I was a kid. Even then it was starting to go to sh*t. My grandparents sold that house and moved away from Navco in the 90s. I do remodeling work sometimes on section 8 housing In that area. I WILL not go there to work without a gun on me because crime is so bad. I've patched up over 100 bullets holes in homes just in a year. Only thing bad about Mobile is the ghetto gangster mentality of people in the poor areas. New Orleans though is even worse with crime.
