Our "Frosty" Artventure
I am (at the very best) an amateur videographer. But I had a lot of fun with this project. Here's a little background about it...
I use reference photos for all of my drawings and paintings. Awhile back I had the idea to document the entire creation process of a project, starting from the very beginning which includes the photography. I presented the idea to my good friend and wildlife photographer, Jason Loftus, and he loved it. This trip was done as a trial run. A beta test to see if the idea had any merit. It worked out great and we had planned to do a few more last year, but then 2020 happened. With the complications of the pandemic, more trips were postponed as we focused on working through the unexpected challenges we each faced in our individual lives. After an entire year, I finally found the time to finish editing the video and post it for you to watch. I hope you enjoy it! Jason and I are now again exploring ideas for the next trip. Stay tuned.
The artwork created in this video is titled "Frosty" and limited edition prints are available on my website joelpilcherart.com. I'll include a link below. Unfortunately, the editing took me so long that there are only a handful of paper prints left in the edition. Still quite a few canvas prints available.

Awesome!!
Hello again, Joel, I hope I am not bugging you too much 🫤 I noticed on this, and other similar pieces, that you put a wash on the canvas. What does the wash consist of? Thank you, again! God bless😊

No problem. Happy to answer. The wash is just acrylic paint mixed with water. Thanks!
what did you spray on it in the middle of the process?

Acetone
also I'd like to ask if capturing these photos is kinda like hunting. do you have to track these animals, and then spot stalk them to get the photo??
Wow! All of your artwork is from photos you've taken?

No, I work with photographers to get permission to use their photos for reference. This one was from Jason Loftus. He invited me to go with him to Yellowstone where he captured this reference image.
