yeah Luffy's smile is very contagious and warm... the live action covers the 45 episodes from the anime.. They changed the flow of the story but the main thought is there and most of the characters are on point 1:1 ratio.... so they really did a very good job with this adaptation.

Super Eyepatch Wolf had an awesome recommendation if you want to see if the anime is for you. "Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island." 90 minutes. The cast gets to shine. If you're okay with a reveal of an extra Straw Hat or two that you aren't yet familiar with, it is kind of One Piece in a nutshell.

Just to clarify the main character's name is Monkey D. Luffy, and in Japan last names go first. So Monkey is his family name and you can just call him Luffy

What you missed is that Luffy wanted an eyepatch rather than a scar.

Luffy is a carefree character, in the source material he's even more oblivious, but the smile is his trademark. Luffy can read people's nature, besides that he only cares about One Piece, food, specially meat, his nakama (friends) and going on adventures and being free.

"Grab onto a bird or something" is a direct reference to the manga/anime where Luffy does in fact grab onto a bird 😆

Luffy's smile is definitely a big part of why we love him so much.

So basically the hair colors are something natural in this world, even a background character can have blue hair, but no one of the main cast is canonically asian (until the point adapted on the live action) aside from zoro who is Japanese, said by the manga's creator

For 10 years. A solid decade one of my best friends tried to get me into One Piece. Pretty much every day. And it always ended with him say "Dude, you just don't understand. You don't understand how good it is." And now that I've been obsessed with this story for 10 years he was absolutely right. It's such a difficult thing to explain. One Piece is the greatest story ever told. There's nothing like it and even though the live action can never be the same that's perfectly fine. It captures enough of the magic to make me happy and if it brings this incredible story to more people then I support it 100%. Thank you for the awesome reaction.

@@rav04o2 It will absolutely become that good. If you really want the full experience that no doubt will hook you for life, it's roughly between episodes 230 and 330. It will be 110 hours of your life to get there, but you won't regret a second. You'll just want more.

yeah i've seen like 100 episodes as a kid and then stopped at some point. Even though i was a fan i could never catch up to it or start the journey until the live action and i started watching it again from the beginning. Now im at ep 240 and i even watch fillers. Its like my comfort show now. I go to bed and watch a handful of episodes every night knowing that there's enough for me to do this for months or years maybe but even then i get the feeling that i don't want it to end.

About Luffy's smile, the answer is absolutely. Next to his Straw Hat, one of his most defining characteristics is his infectious smile. They made a great decision casting Inaki Godoy.

the smile is definitely a big part of luffy in anime and manga too, so that's a very good catch. loved the reaction, its fun to see people experience the story for the first time, and this live action is definitely a good way to get into the world.

I love Demon Slayer and JJK, but One Piece is in a league of its own, I understand that 1070+ episodes is a big commitment, but there are some exclusive benefits in watching a long show that you won't find in shows like Demon Slayer or JJK. I mean, when One Piece wants to make you sad, it'll make you sad as nothing else, if it wants you to get hyped there is nothing else that can get you hyped quite the same way.

@@JakeRaymond7 What I did was read the manga, and I watched most of the One Piece anime movies 'cos they were so good. It never took me away from the story. I did lose track of One Piece for a few years though and I can't remember where I stopped. :/

Fun fact about Devil fruits, they taste awful, so much that you'd think you ate venom. The reason why Luffy isn't affected that much by its flavour... I guess it's because Luffy has a very "flexible" taste and can eat almost everything that is edible.

His smile is definitely important to his character. So, glad you notice it in the actor. Showing that he's a good pick. 👍

One Piece is one of those rare series that once you watch it you get immerse by it's writing and world building. There's no series like one piece, and IMO this is the best anime series ever that would go on to inspire many more animes. Which is why as fan of one piece since 2009 I'm SUPERRR(inside op joke) happy that it got the best anime adaptation since Rurouni Kenshin.

It feels like I'm making new friends with all the channels reacting to One Piece! Subscribed and looking forward to checking out more... and yes! The smile is 100% a big part of the story!

Every anime has action, suspense, sense of wonder, but One Piece has the most heart.

Yes to the smile. It's such a big part of his character and its usually something that is relatively subtle. I wasn't until later that I realized how big of a deal it was after some of the more... serious events in the series. And as someone else already pointed out. Japanese usually say their family name first, given name last. So his given/first name is Luffy.

@@nataliezettler3710 i highly doubt you need every person on this planet to like it to be successful... there will never be anything that is liked by everyone... it's like lord of the rings.. fantastic movies and yet there are still those hardcore fans who nitpick on everything, trash talk ever minor deviation from the source material and so on.. so if 90% of people think it is great then i am sure it can do well with the other 10% not liking it.... it only would be an issue if it was the other way around

In the one piece Manga / Anime , U can identify any Charakter by their laugh 😂

Fact: Luffy's actor was handpicked by the author. The reason: that was the guy that made him laugh in the selection phase...

Luffy's friends are not just his friends but they are his FAMILY. They have crazy quirks and personalities but they got each other's backs like a family, like Dominic and the fast family

All you have to do is random google an image of Luffy and you'll see him with a big goofy smile.

As someone who has been a fan of one piece for just 2 years, i would say it is one of the greatest story. I think even after watching many anime and reading lots of manga, no story has made me so much happy as one piece.

The live action is meant to entice you to watch the anime/read the manga. They changed it up so if you do decide to go to the originals it will still be interesting. Season 1 covers around 70 episodes. And only around 100 out of 1000+ are actually fillers.

I'm obsessed with this show

The writer Oda in the Manga was involved in it also the manga has out sold Spiderman and Batman which leaving Superman the only one above it. It also out sold Harry Potter. In this Oda takes alot imagination for different things around the world like different religions and this story has layers in it. It be always number One favorite to me. As @rubyfan808 said in his comment the writer is Japanese so the put their last name first so if I was Japanese this how my name would be Turner Marie Tracey-Anne but because I live in Australia it is Tracey-Anne Marie Turner but Japan is the only Country that puts their last name first.

The first *season* covers the first 50 or so episodes.

The Netflix show is an adaptation of the manga, not the anime. So there’s certain things they show in the show that’s not in the anime. Like Zorros fight with number 7 wasn’t in the anime. But the creator said the show met his expectations, and everyone has said the show has broken the curse of real life adaptations of anime’s being trash, so it’s a 10/10 in my book, and got me into watching the anime itself!

I feel like this is manga accurate, I've watched all 8 episodes. Only if you say it's better than the manga, no it's not. If you say it's worse, no, it's not. You can't compare them because they have their own interests. So far, this is number 2 the best. Number 1 is still Alice in Borderland Live action netflix series. and number 3, Rurouni kenshin movie 1-5.

​@@CosmoLav I've watched both Alice in Borderlands and One Piece live actions and I think why Alice is not as "cringe" as One Piece is because of the genre itself. One piece has a lot of comedy-drama-fantasy, and that strong 'the power of friends' themes. Not to mention it's set in a completely different world than us. While (I think) Alice is a lot more serious in it's approach if compared to One Piece :) My advice is, *embrace* the cringle lol-if you don't dwell on it, a lot of shows will be A LOT more fun!

These 8 episodes of the show adapt about 45 episodes of the anime, and I've heard people who know more about the show than me that it would take about 15 seasons like this one to catch up to the current point the show is at.

Luffy is 17 when the show started and Nami is 18 , Zoro is 19 and Sanji is 19 too

They only change minor things to speed it up cut filler and make events happen in one location. It has less changes than the anime and is closer to the source in amny ways than the anime was and the creator picked everything, and everyone and was heavily involved so it's safe to assume these are changes he would do

The names are in normal Asian order, so Monkey D is the family name. He goes by Luffy. Hair color, poses, and expressions - like smiles are a thing in the anime.

you need to understand Luffy is a rly difficult character to make in a live action ... in the anime he is 10 time more insane then the live action but inaki (luffy from Live action) did rly a good job and he is the best actor for him i guess ... Zoro and Nami are on point but believe me Luffy in the anime is way more fun ... And yes One Piece is the best anime/manga and you dont need to fear the 1000 Episodes... i have many friends, youtuber, streamer that were afraid of that but once they step in, they loved it and got caught in this masterpiece and are now actual at the anime you dont need to rush, just take your time and watch the anime slow... after 40 episodes, you gonna love this

If i was to make a suggestion for those who are interested in the anime after seeing the live action. It would be wait. Let the live action get 2 or 3 seasons and then in between said seasons make your way through the anime. Will take you 3 or 4 seasons of live action to catch up and by then you’ll be invested and have an absolute grasp on the characters, world and over all feel of the show. From there i’d say watch however you want.

one of the main characters with Orange hair or Nami is written by the writer of the storyline as someone from Sweden. Luffy = Brazil Zoro=Japan Nami = Sweden Usopp = Africa Sanji = France That's why the One Piece Anime or Manga is not boring because it is not based on Japanese culture, aka global or universal

The smile is more than just luffys trademark, theres a thing in the show referred to as "the will of D" basically there is a bunch of characters with D as their middle initial like monkey D. luffy and gol D. roger and they have some sort of connection to each other, and a common element among those with the will of D is that they smile alot even in the face of their own deaths, its not something that needs to be dwelt on this early in the show as even in the manga the will of D is still unexplained

you guys should definitely watch the anime, 1000+ seems much, but after you start, you will have that feeling of wanting more and more, and when you least expect you finished, i have watched and rewatched one piece so many times, that if you count it, i should be over 2000 episodes easily, some arcs i rewatched like 5 times, and arcs in one piece are extremely long, like 100+ episodes.

So the show's writer specifically gave different ethnicities to the characters. Zoro is meant to be japanese, nami is european I think, and Luffy is meant to be brazillian. They have them this way on purpose since zoro is a swordsman of Kendo, nami has a reason that illudes me, but Luffy was picked to be brazillian because the first rubber manufacturer was in brazil. All this to say is that the characters are not meant to portray Japanese heritage, so it is likely that Nami was born with orange hair. I can't remember the details on her specifically, but it's another interesting deep bit of information Oda came up with while writing this.
