Our First Impressions of Vietnam! | Hanoi's Old Quarter

#vietnam #hanoi #travelvlog
We packed our bags and headed to Hanoi, Vietnam for our first time! We didn't do a lot of research, so we didn't know what to expect, but right when we arrived we were blown away by how dense and chaotic Hanoi's Old Quarter was. At the same time the people were so calm and relaxed, and gave us a really good first impression. We ate amazing local food, learnt about Vietnam's dark past, and saw a lot of interesting places in Hanoi's Old Quarter. It's only the start of our trip, and we can already tell it's going to be a good one!

It's slightly sad to see the comparisons being made between the prison camps in VN and KR seemingly not realising that Korea, a mere two decades after gaining independance from Japan, sent over 350k soldiers during the Vietnam war and are accused of commiting some of the most gruesome warcrimes that took place during the VN war including massacres againt women, children and elderly, all of which Korea has constantly denied in the very same way JP has always denied its imperialist history in KR. Besides that I absolutely love your channel, always super infomative and you give a real picture and real opinion about the places you visit instead of making portraying everything overly positive like a lot of travel bloggers/vloggers do. Keep up the excellent work!!

Thanks so much for the kind words @stijnhs! Also you're right that Korea was involved in some very heinous acts in Vietnam back in the day. Although a separate issue from Japan's crimes in Korea, it would be nice if the Korean government would acknowledge this and educate its people so they can prevent similar things from happening in the future.

I like your positive attitude. Many would have complained bitterly about the misleading hotel accommodation and that attitude would permeate their trip and video. I also like your pointing out the historical museums. It really provides you some insight on the people in Vietnam and what they went through and their current state of mind. The same applies to all other countries, to be able to see what the locals went through and see their attitude today. I hope you guys have a safe and enjoyable trip to the rest of VN. Having said that, I always recommend foreigners to travel from the South to the North as Central and North VN have much more spectacular topographies, more sense of Vietnamese culture and characteristics (HCMC is quite Western), so you would leave the country with a more unique perspective of VN.

Thanks so much 20 Luzer! 😊 Not everything can be perfect when going to a new country as you have to learn how everything works, so it's always best to just go with the flow and not let those things ruin your trip eh! Also totally agree with your suggestion of starting South and going North! Hanoi was the best part of our whole trip (we ended up seeing Hanoi, Sapa, Danang, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh). We didn't see the whole country, but ending the trip in Hanoi definitely saves the best for last! Vietnam left an amazing impression on us, and we can't wait to go back there next time as we have just scratched the surface and have so many more things to see!

I watch another youtuber called troy vietnam who is based there, he does charitable donations to the poor and ill people and families on behalf of the subscribers who make donations to him. I've been watching his videos for years now as I find the people and scenery of vietnam fascinating and I would love to travel there someday and experience it for myself. There is a great deal of very impoverished people living in vietnam, in conditions far worse than what any westerner would call "poor", yet despite that, in all of the video I watch, the people there are so welcoming, strong, and happy. Vietnam is truly a fascinating and beautiful place, for both its people and its landscapes. I thoroughly hope that both you and Yujin make some awesome memories together there! 👍

Wow that's really amazing! I've never heard of him but will have to check his channel out! Also you are so right about the people here. You can definitely feel a lot of poverty everywhere, but there is something really special about how calm and giving people seem to be overall. The country has an amazing vibe to it that I've never seen before, and I think a lot of people including myself could learn a lot just by being here and interacting with the people on a daily basis. Hope you can check it out some day as well! 😊

  • @lostthenfound

    Жыл бұрын

Thanks so much Yang Seo! 😊 Yujin has been once before but for a very short trip and it's my first time. For cheap hotels in Korea there is no "one answer" but a lot of it depends if you have a Korean ID card. I usually use Yanolja (야놀자) and check for any promotions as my primary method but it requires a Korean ID. If you don't have a Korean ID, then the only options available are websites like Booking or Expedia (or similar) unless you can speak Korean and call the hotel to reserve that way. Also sometimes the prices are cheaper on international websites than Korean websites (or vice versa) so it's always good to compare!

Of course Japan learned how to be imperialist from the European powers. These kinds of conditions existed in NEARLY ALL of the non-European world but even existed in Europe before the colonial/imperialist nationalist era. Europeans learned how to do this by treating their own people in the most horrible of ways. Interestingly enough, Thailand was never colonized. The way you toasted at the end of the video is the way brought upon the Koreans by the Imperialist Japanese. Not sure if it's a touchy subject around other places effected by Imperialist Japan. I usually stick with Chan rather than the Japanese way.

It's pretty crazy to learn about the dark history of this planet. I don't know why humans have this desire to harm others to make their own lives better, as it seems incredibly obvious that if everyone was just good to each other then we would thrive (I don't think it's possible, but it's a beautiful thought!). Also I always thought "Geonbae" stemmed from the Chinese word "Ganbei" which means "to dry up a cup" doesn't it? I didn't know it came from the Japanese.

  • @eliastv5498
