I remember roadline parcels having these trucks, engine sounds brings back memories!
Proper wagon reminds me of being a kid riding with my dad
These small trucks only had a four speed manual, from memory.
Touch the brake pedal, but the windscreen! Remember driving one, UYD801M, possibly, was in 1980.Heater never did work properly, either.Engine cold start behind cab.
What a lovely little motor ! Definitely not many of them about with the 4 cylinder engine and the original interior before they brought out the Brown fabric super G cab. At 50 years old it looks to be in excellent condition. Not everyone’s cup of tea but great it survived. Well done to your late Uncle 👍

Thankyou very much for the kind words sean! Yeah it's a bit of an acquired taste but it has character and that speaks volumes to me! The phrase they don't make em like they used to comes to mind haha!
Lovely

That’s a lovely classic old British lorry. There can’t be many of these Leylands left on the road now.

Haha thanks pal yeah maybe one day haha I can only dream!! Haha it's a Leyland terrier 🙂 thanks for the support my friend!!
Always loved the inside of these trucks ❤, our local scrap metal dealer had the bigger cab version, somehow ,even though it has clean lines,I am not a fan of the exterior exterior ,was not aware of all the problems, however there is no perfect vehicle, all have some quirks.

Thanks Erin!!!
Drove a clysdale as a skop lorry
In Australia these were released with a 4.4 litre V8 petrol and later with the option of a Perkins 6/247 diesel. They all had Air over hydraulic brakes and hydraulic lift for tilting the cab. I drove a petrol model for about 3 years.

One weak point with them was in the Turner 5 speed gearbox, they had a habit of picking up both 1st and 3rd after coming out of reverse. the one I drove had the box replaced twice.
my father in law had one it had the 6 cylinder BMC 698 engine in it.

Awesome! Would love to see it!
Which Engines were they fitted with?
One of the worst vehicles bmc leyland ever made. Rubbish brake system originally it had no tilt cab pump or torsion bar to assist cab lifting. Dangerous to tilt the cab and lower.

@gearedupgarage do not normally put bad comments, but I did work on these early terriers and tbh I could not get my head round what bmc or leyland were trying to sell when you look at a bedford of the same weight. Though a bedford cab did not tilt once you found all the short cuts they were light years ahead of these things. Particularly for the driver.

Agree with 'A T' regarding the pathetic 'power hydraulic' braking system and the none- standard hydraulic pump to raise the cab (an optional extra I believe ! ) I was a Leyland Trucks apprentice in Birmingham (UK) in the mid 1970's and all the Terrier's I ever worked on required 4 x strong Mechanics (2 either side of the cab) in order to lift the Cab manually, once you had dis-connected the steering column. You then took your life into your own hands, whilst working underneath the raised cab ! Leyland I believe were duped by Girling into pursuing the useless 'power hydraulic' braking system, with Nitrogen Accumulators. All other UK manufacture's (Bedford, Ford, Commer) used the far simpler and more effective Air over Hydraulic braking system. We had endless problems at the dealership with this type of braking system on Terrier's failing at the MOT, due to the low pressure warning 'buzzer' coming on too soon, during brake pressure depletion testing. The Terrier was however streets ahead of Bedford in maintenance (simplicity and access) regarding engine servicing or replacing, once you had the cab raised. The useless Bedford fixed Cab, required a 'miner' with his helmet lamp, to crawl in the dark beneath the cab and cowlings, in order to get at the engine/ components. And if a Bedford required an engine change, it was either the complete cab removal, or dropping out the engine from underneath (once the front axle was removed). What an absolute joke..........

The Australian models DID have air over hydraulic brakes. They first came out with a V8 petrol then later with the option of a Perkins 6/247.@@JamesSmith-tv3pz

Not a smaller version of the G Cab, it is a G Cab but with much smaller wheels than the Reiver/Clydesdale/Boxer. Because it's lower to the ground it seems alot smaller

In Australia as well as a V8 petrol or Perkins 6/247 Diesel they also had models with 16 or 20 inch wheels.@@triumph169
