Tudor is already the tester for Rolex, like the LHD and Titanium. Snowflake hands is the most distinctive characteristic, not a love at first site feature for me but now I wouldn’t change it all. Black Bay is almost like a mini brand within Tudor, and yes too many options but never heard a fan complain about that. And some popular models still has a waiting list, even a 36mm BB black dial and Root Beers (from past experience).

Where were those people when Tudor had to leave the US in early 2000? Not even Tiger Woods could lift the brand. Now, the whole black bay name is taking Tudor up, being a marketing success and a cash cow. I think they could rename the brand Black Bay and the sales are guaranteed

Why change a winning formula? At the end of the day if it sells and people love it just give them more of the same in different flavors. The problem is that watch enthusiasts don't think with a business mindset. If you were Rolex or Tudor and your watches are in high demand, why do you want to spend all the extra money on R & D to come up with something which may lose money or break even. Black Bay is unexciting but at least it comes in different materials and functions. The design is classic. Take for comparison the Porsche 911. And know that Porsche is the number 1 luxury brand in the world.

Every brand has its weaknesses. That's what makes the hobby so interesting. I agree that maybe the naming conventions for Tudor watches rely a bit too much on the black bay line. However, you could argue the same for Omega. In all honesty I like the diversity. There's a watch for everyone. Not everything has to be about value retention

I absolutely love my black bay pro. I understand the belief that it's an unoriginal design of the 1655 with black bay. But I love it. And it's way more affordable. I don't need hands and indicies coated in white gold to go exploring or travel with. The pro brings the exp2 back to the core tool watch basics. And I don't find the thickness an issue at all.

Tudor can never satisfy these trolls & haters. When they release some interesting or polarizing models they are criticized for being too outrageous. Nobody bought the P01 & the Marine Nationale was deemed too utilitarian. When they give consumers more of what they want they are then deemed predictable and boring. eg everyone was asking for a smaller version of the Pelagos & Ranger & a heritage GMT (Pro). They most likely will release a blue dial Pelagos 39 which has been requested by fans and then they will once again be labelled boring! The reason they are playing safe is because no one is buying the other models outside the Black Bay range. They're only satisfying consumer demand. Let the numbers speak for themselves. As an affordable entry level luxury brand they are selling very well. Haters can hate, Theo & Harris can offer their opinions and genious marketing arrogance but at the end of the day, Tudor has no one to answer to. They will continue to dominate in the targeted price point.

Overall, I like Tudor. And I love their Black Bay 58s. I've got one now, about to get another. You can call them boring all day long (unfairly -- it's like saying that a Porsche Cayman is boring/derivative), I call them perfection (minus the faux rivets), and money well spent. But I must agree with part of your over-the-cliff critique -- their use of the "Black Bay" category is almost as bad as Hamilton's use of "Khaki," which is so annoying that it long ago turned me off to Hamilton's entire lineup. To be clear, Tudor is not Hamilton. But they do need to clean this up. Related: I also love Omega, but they're all over the map with their Seamaster lineup as well. Sort it out!

Tudor did just this in recent years. They released the North Flag to show off the new manufacture caliber in 2015. Cool watch but not well sold so discontinued (wish I could get one new now). And they updated the non-diver black bay line last year with bi metal cases with more curved case sides to make them look more like an oyster case (though water resistance went down 50 meters).

Rolex and Tudor have a long history of being used in the military and Omega has a little history with the British navy but no much else. @@goldencalf5144 Sorry. I only ever saw Sean Connery's James Bond films. The OG and best. What's funny is the latest Seamaster has a MOD broad arrow printed on the dial face. Do you know what that means for a captured spy? It means a death sentence because Bond is advertising that he is a British military operative. The broad arrow designation is fine for a uniformed soldier to be wearing BUT for a spy working in the shadows it's a dead giveaway. You better have a cyanide pill handy in case you get caught alive wearing it. Very amateur mistake for a spy. Like having a tattoo on your arm with Mi6. The other problem with military issued watches is the serial number on the caseback. This has the soldiers unit number and branch of service. For a spy wearing that information on their wrist is giving your personal details away without contest. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

I totally agree the lines are a mess and the website is a bit confusing. Sometimes I have trouble finding which model I want to check out. I never liked the Glamour Double Date and Style are embarrassing. It's not the market they're trying to cover, it's the design that is the issue. I just realized the Clair De Rose existed. The end link is a bit odd, but think that one has potential for expansion. The Ranger line should have its own range of models - 36mm, GMT, different color & date variants. I get the design/spec basics that let them lump the Black Bays all together, but it's a bit too much. I want/hope to see the steel Black Bay non-diver line with the silver/blue/black dials get the same refresh as the S&G release last year - more Oyster style cases Michael mentioned, the Kenissi movements, T-fit, and add in a 39mm variant. Honestly, I'd rename the whole line even with the same looks. The Pelagos 39 in blue is a no brainer, and it may be a shut up and take my money moment for me. A Pelagos GMT would be a wildcard, but it might be tricky to do well. They need to expand T-fit across the Black Bay line. All models, period. The 41mm Black Bay diver needs a revamp - thinner and maybe a new colorway. I'm would not be excited by more material options at this point. The Royal line isn't terrible, but not at all my style. Maybe it works for some, but I'd be curious to see sales numbers. They shouldn't make it like a PRX, but it needs to be reworked. The 1926 line isn't bad. It serves its purpose and has classic looks.

If they make their higher end models as thin as their Rolex counterparts and added T-Fit to all of them, then I wouldn’t even consider a Rolex. Nearly the same specs and a better clasp than most of the Rolex models. Also it seems like Tudor ADs are saying the steel Black Bay 32/36/41 are being discounted and replaced by newer models after Watches and Wonders. That’s where Tudor makes their biggest product announcements for the year. Most likely updating the clasp and in house movement.

@@MattyVice I couldn't possibly speculate on values, but I would say that the Tudor is a fabulously solid watch with a great movement and it stands out by only having the two sub dials instead of the three that everyone else uses. There have been shortages in various markets so popularity is confirmed . I looked up the modifications and Tudor fit a free sprung balance and change the minute counter up to 45 from 30. The Panda is a great looking watch and I'm sure you won't regret it, but definitely try it on first as it's a bit of a chunky boy.

I think it’s halcyon days with Tudor. My favourite watch brand: legit Rolex associated, legit pedigree of their own, Rolex have sunk under sheer weight of their own dealers bullcrap, and IF, Tudor ever launched an updated Submariner, I 100% guarantee you it would obliterate the watch market overnight. With Tudor you are getting Rolex build quality, themed from yesteryear, good availability for under half the price of a Rolex you can’t get at retail, and a third of the cost of a grey market Rolex: the ONLY price you pay is the Tudor HAS to be de-refined a bit: thicker. No easy clasp adjustment: because if it had all the finesse of its Rolex equivalent, a chunk of those trying for Rolex would bail out & go Tudor, so it has to be a less aesthetically pleasing product to protect Rolex.
