Our Chicken Hatched Quail Chicks For Us!!! | Broody Hens

Welcome back to our channel!! We hope this video finds you in good spirits today, if you are going through hard times or trials we hope this video will lift your burden just a little bit. We are so grateful to all who have lifted our own spirits in this trying time for us.
We tried an experiment!! We had one of our Bantam Broody Hens sit on Coturnux Quail Eggs for us. This part of the experiment has been a huge success!! She was able to hatch 7 quail. What I would do differently so far is I would have moved her and the hatched babies sooner as unfortunately one of her babies was smothered in the nest box.
The quail are very fragile and I'm not sure this chicken realizes that, so I'm very nervous to see if they survived their first night on the ground and to see if she will successfully raise this clutch of quail.
We do have 5 eggs left that appear to be alive when candled, 3 chicken eggs and 2 quail eggs. We have 5 others that I'm just not sure about so I put those towards the back of the incubator. So we have a total of 10 eggs that the kids and I collected after the hens were finished sitting and placed in the incubator to finish up developing. I've never saved the rest of the eggs before but I'm glad we did it, it's been fun to have some late hatchers survive.

Oh my goodness those baby chicks are adorable!!! How many quail eggs hatched? I just love how the 2 hens are sharing mommyhood! I have heard that if you are going to introduce chickens to a flock or in this case mama hens you do it at night and they will be none the wiser. Have you ever done that before? I love the kid's excitement over the baby. OMGosh when Emmitt let the chickens out and the kids were chasing them. I was laughing on the inside. (laughing out loud hurts my stomach and lower abdomen) Thank you for sharing! God's blessings on you and your family. Love you guys! 🙏🏼🕊✝💖🌺🌻

Cynthia I'm so sorry you are still in so much pain!! I'm glad this could make you laugh on the inside. Many prayers your way for healing and comfort. We have introduced chickens at night, it's true! They get disoriented at night so it is so much easier working with them at night. I can't believe these two are mothering together, it is useful! We ended up having 7 quail hatch, 2 didn't make it unfortunately-will be explaining more on the next video- so she is currently raising 5 now.

All the baby chicks and quail are so cute . You have 2 really good mother hens. The pig seems small to butcher yet. But, maybe not. Lovely video. I like all the time spent with the chickens. 💖

Wonderful!!! I found that the chicken could hatch the quail perfectly but she had a hard time raising them, so if I do this again I will pull the babies from the hen right after hatching. They just had different needs than chicken chicks and a few died it was really sad. But I learned a good lesson trying it out!

Any video you have shared are very good. Really liked this one so interesting how the mama chicken adopted those baby chicks that were not hers. As always your kids are adoreable and fun to watch. Why can't you keep cats around? God Bless you and your family with all you have been through.

Thank you so much Rhonda!!! Our coyotes around our house are really bad and cats usually go missing. We've always had inside outside cats, but I got tired of paying so much to have them spayed and neutered so we left this male cat in tact. Well... One night this cat sprayed on Ryan's side of the bed!!! 😂 So this cat got banished to being fully outside. When he went missing a few weeks ago we just assumed coyotes, badger, skunk or owl, I can't believe he came home alive!!! 😍❤️

It worked really well for hatching, but next time I'm just going to take the chicks that hatch right away. She wasn't able to care for them very well because they are so small. We lost 3 quail chicks before I decided to pull the rest of the clutch from her. She took a chicken chick to raise instead though and is doing a great job with it.

So need about your broody chicken raising these quail or at least hatching them. yes these male cats when they're done cutting around will come home main leave again and come back, I have one that I would like to be able to afford to get him fixed. That I would like to kind of keep around but the others not so much, he is a pretty good Hunter and he is also reasonably friendly

It has been very fun to watch the broody hens go about their business. 🐣 We know what you mean about the cats, after we had 3 fixed and then they were killed by predators in our area it's just not worth it. We even kept one inside full time only to have her escape and then get killed. It's so sad and upsetting for the kids, we hope this guy sticks around. They really are great hunters!
