Our Built Environment | Smita Khan | TEDxNagpur

In this talk Architect Smita Khan talks about our shared Built Environment and its importance.
Architect Dr. Smita Khan completed her PHD in 2013 in learning environments and building performance assessment. She studied at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, USA for M.Arch (1990) with Architectural Design as major, and was a Rotary International Graduate Scholar.
She has worked on evolution of a new architectural language - “Contemporary Vernacular” which synthesizes the vernacular with the contemporary. Her philosophy revolves around a conscious continuum of the traditional not only in terms of spatial order, but also on exploration & application of relevant construction techniques, recycling & reusing materials, applying local & natural materials & rejuvenating the vernacular by introduction of local arts & crafts to achieve an appropriate architectural expression for the region, its culture & its people.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
