Our bison had to make a quick trip to the vet!

Sometimes you gotta make quick decisions on what you think is best. I felt like I needed to give more attention to Dakota, one of our struggling bison cows. I made the decision to go ahead and take her and the two bull calves to the vet so we could figure out what her problem was. This whole process is about learning...and every time I visit the vet, I learn something new. In this video, I reveal something I have never heard of that exist in Oklahoma... (anaplasmosis).

Very glad you got Dakota and the bulls to the vets! Hopefully things will start showing improvement in a month. I'm sure just having the vet check everyone out must bring some comfort knowing he got to see them all in person and do what he feels is necessary. Getting those bison loaded up and in and out of the trailer is no easy thing!

XD sadly bison can never be tamed its their dna. To keep a bison calm is key unfortunately in this scenario Dakota is already suspicious from being separated from the heard now he is trying to load them up and in the bison world they are scared because of the at of the normal change.

Dusty I grew up here in PA n one of the things my family did was go for a Sunday drive. We had a church camp near us in MD that was an old west town. They had Buffalo as we called them n my father went to school there in a 1 room school house, which is still standing. My Dad's been gone 10 yrs this past January. Watching your videos reminds me of all of the rides to River Valley Ranch to see the Buffalo. Good Luck with your animals.

Dusty, it's smart to take them to the vet. Any farm animal is an investment, as well as a friend. Bison are, of course, huge! There are just things you cannot prevent, some you can. You're doing a good job. Climate affects a lot of things, including animals.
