OUR BIGGEST TRAVEL MISTAKE EVER! (Flying To Vietnam)

Don’t make this travel mistake when flying to Vietnam!
What should have been an easy travel day turned into so much more. Sometimes when you’ve been doing something for a while you get a little overconfident and mistakes are made. We learned this lesson swiftly, which ended up costing us an extra $500 USD we didn’t plan on spending.
Sit back and enjoy the ride as we attempt to fly from Luang Prabang, Laos to Hanoi, Vietnam. It was a roller coaster, but we learned some good travel lessons.
We hope you enjoy our Vietnam travel vlog and, as always, we’ll see you in our next video as we Keep Going Places!

We hope our Vietnam travel mistake from February 2020 brings you a little humor and entertainment 🙃 After almost a year of full-time traveling, we got a little too comfortable with waiting until the last minute on things and we ultimately paid the price on this one! Luang Prabang just made us a little too laid back. For those wondering why we didn’t just wait a few more days in Luang Prabang, we had a couple of time-bound commitments to make in Hanoi so we needed to arrive there ASAP.

@@vanmorse648 how is this related to corruption? They should have filed for the visa on arrival letter in time for it to be approved for their flight. I remember requesting for the visa on arrival a month before my flight (it arrived within a week --- but I wasn't going to wait until the last minute). There are 3rd parties that do it with RUSH processing (within 24 hrs) for a small fee. I think less than $50 all in

You guys travel this much yet is so poor at planning. Who travels on a "pending visa?" Laos to Vietnam is a short hop. Then what? Tell the Vietnamese your visa is pending? What if there are issues? Sleep at the airport? Assuming that you are approved is entitled. To expect to call Vietnam immigration to expeditevis beyond hilarious. Sure they will stop their lunches and expedite you two fine US citizens. Respect the process. Leave your Western mindset, you are not in Kansas anymore. $500 is a cheap lesson. Should be more. Lol....my visa is pending 😑. But I give you guys mucha credit for smiling through it all and not let it ruin your trip. Safe travels.

Heck do you just carry your suitcase to the airport and found out at the airport you need a visa to enter North Korea?

Call me old school but even after traveling to SE Asia for 15 years, I go to the US State Dept and the country's embassy website to look up the visa requirements for the countries that I plan on visiting and work that county's processing timeline into my plans. I make sure that I have documentation in hand to be stamped. For some countries, that includes a copy of one's most recent bank account statement (with account numbers blackened out). Their rules so if one wishes to visit, it is best to plan it out. In all these years, I have had only one hiccup and that was finding out that my husband's visa was stamped with a different expiration date than mine, though we arrived together. So, we had to pay a fee for him to leave the country ($14). I now ALWAYS check BOTH of our visas for the date!

Oops!! Personally I would have just stayed in Laos 2 or three more days until the original visa came through instead of a weeks travel budget. I am a very cheap ass traveller though. I did pay ten extra dollars to get my Vietnam visa in 24hrs instead of 72 hrs in Bangkok and booked a flight at the same time.

The plus sign in a phone number basically means that you need to add the international dialling-out code to the start of the number. It varies with the country are in. For the US it’s 00 and the UK is 0, for example.

  • @jonaskerkhoff9389

I go to Vietnam 3 times a year. Just pick up my visa at arrival airport. They do tell you that the visa approval letter is needed...maybe wait for confirmation next time hey...alot of visa companies available just $30 if you pay for VIP service you can get it in less than 2 days

Vietnam's "visa" application process is a complete and utter mess. No other country has the bureaucracy disaster that is the Vietnamese "visa" process. If you haven't travel to Vietnam before, you won't appreciate how much of a mess their border visa process is. In my travels to other SEA countries (Laos, Thailand), it takes maybe 30 minutes to complete the border visa application. In Vietnam, YES, you MUST apply 3 days in advance and it MUST be approved BEFORE you even try to get into their country. It is not a scam but just the grinding of the gears of their bureaucracy. Even if you are able to get to Vietnam, you will have a 1+ hour long approval process at their border processing office.

Oops! One of those things. I spent four hours at the VN/KH land border trying to convince the border guards that the guy who'd had an epileptic fit on the bus ride down was not on drugs. This stuff just adds to the anecdotal tales when you travel. Vietnam is way my favourite country, and well worth the wait.

I don’t get it, why is it a rush that you have to get into Vietnam knowing it is still “pending”? Couldn’t you stay in LOAS for another day or two until it is approve? That would have saved you all the extra rush and paper work fees. I know this is a year ago but what exactly is the issuing puzzle.

Why would you even consider trying to leave/enter a country without the correct paperwork. You need to respect the laws of any country you are going to visit, no matter how illogical it may seem. Is this naivety or arrogance?

Unless you put the filming date in the title the vid remains misleading. Note that no posted comment realizes that it’s an ‘old’ vid, one of a 3-4 series with recent posting dates. The only reason I realized the mislead was because I recently reviewed Vietnam visa issues.

Sorry to hear all that. But at least you managed to arrive at your destination on the next day without anymore headaches...I was once "paid" $5K+ for my travel "mistake" ever when on my flight from New York to Arizona; We had to make a connect fight at Las Vegas airport and instead of waiting in the airport for the next flight, I jumped on a taxi going to the... casinos which only 30 minutes away.... :) You should arrive VN few weeks earlier as Tet holiday just passed. Hope you two enjoy your trip in VN and be safe.

Few Mistakes Were Made 1. Still using a Tmobile International plan instead of purchasing local sim cards. 2. you could of paid a 31 dollar fee to have your visa done in 8 hours by vietnam visa. Instead of going the cheap route in the first place 3. In the future educate yourself in the visa process before calling everything a scam!! 😂 This video reminds me why I avoid westerners when Im traveling In Southeast Asia lol
