As a Malaysian, I can give you some insights as to why pedestrian sidewalks are practically non-existent in Malaysia. The main reason is just poor urban planning. Sidewalks are simply an afterthought. Every building and point of interest in Malaysia is designed for cars. You step outside your home, you are left with no option but to drive because the road system just in front of your house is exclusively designed for cars and motorcycles, not your legs. There are no sidewalks of any kind in a typical Malaysian urban neighborhood (called taman here). I've seen a lot of my fellow countrymen saying that Malaysian hot and humid climate is not suitable for walking. While I do agree that it can be unpleasant to walk anywhere when it's 32-33 degrees Celsius outside, a roofed or better yet, a tree covered sidewalk can make walking in this country more bearable. You don't have to walk directly under the hot sun, all you need is a paved sidewalk or walkway with trees shading you from the hot sun. I would really like to walk anywhere here in Malaysia. But three things prevent me from doing that: lack of sidewalks, shade, and stray dogs. The solution is not cheap, as it involves building hundreds of kilometers of paved sidewalks with trees providing shade for pedestrians from the sun. It can be done, we just have to start somewhere.

I live in the outskirt of shah alam. Based on my observation, there are pedestrian sideways here. However, there are some other reasons why we walk/jog on the road instead of the sidewalks. 1) some irresponsible/selfish motorcyclist ride their motorcycles on the walkways for shortcut 2) people park their vehicles on the sidewalks illegally 3) people operating illegal stalls on these sidewalks and eventually they became permanent I hope the local council and police can be more strict on this.

Putrajaya is pedestrian friendly & mostly shaded by trees, no stray dogs (might encounter wild boar if u r unlucky) but hardly anybody use it. It is the heat. It used to be the unpredictable rain, but now you risk heat stroke walking in the hot sun.

  • @AzmiHere

    @AzmiHere

    Ай бұрын

@@AnneLaniaz I don't deny heat being one of the factors preventing locals from walking. I live in a typical Malaysian urban neighborhood here in Johor. There's a supermarket and a convenience store just a couple of meters away from where I live. Why do I have to risk my life walking on the road meant for cars and motorcycles just so that I can grab a carton of milk and a jar of coffee? Why aren't there any sidewalks connecting residential areas to commercial areas? The number of foreigners and tourists talking about the lack of sidewalks in our country on the internet really speaks volumes about how unfriendly Malaysia is for pedestrians and cyclists. You can find them everywhere. KZread, Facebook, Twitter and even on online forums like Reddit. Malaysia truly is one of the most pedestrian-hostile countries in the world. Pedestrians are simply not something government officials have in mind when they build towns and cities.

I'm a Malaysian, and I appreciate your honest perspective, whether you're highlighting advantages or disadvantages. I value honesty in people. When it comes to countries, each one has its positives and negatives; there is no perfect country. Personally, when I travel to different countries, I also encounter things I like and dislike. This is normal and part of the country's identity that we, as foreigners, must accept, even if it's difficult. For example, it can be hard for me to find halal food, bidets, the call to prayer (azan), small prayer rooms (surau) in certain countries, also unfriendly locals but I have to accept and endure these differences.

Critics only trigger our desire to improve. Our education system is developed n stimulates young malaysians to activate brain to think creatively..innovative n act accordingly. For decades we learnt ..observe...adapt new knowledge n innovation to build our nation n we are still learning. Everyday is learning... by mistakes...by example...by trial n error... by history... anything that contributes to lesson.. it's a vital part in building what we are now. As we are Muslims majority Qur'an n sunnah are the major source of our education system. From primary till tertiary education. Rude behaviour n statement only displays one's messy background n upbringing. We can always make du'a to Allah to better us as His servants. We are not perfect n we are humans with err but we put effort to improve with guidance from Allah. InshaAllah. May Allah keep guiding us. Aamiin Note: come visit us again in future to explore more. Short visit not enough to learn about Malaysia.

In Malaysia, if you come across someone who cannot speak English.. they are foreigners especially those from Indonesia that looks very much like local Malays (I notice from your video at Kampung Baru) and also some other foreigners from Bangladesh, Vietnam, Nepal and India.. Local Malaysia can speak at least basic english for communication since at average every single malaysian underwent 11 years of english language classes at school..

Not true, i am a foreigner studying here. I would say not everyone here knows the basic english, they know just some words. Even the funny thing is if i speak in english other than the foreigners they (my fellow peers) don't actually get what i am saying. Sometimes it feels like i am bad at english (although not that good that i can be proud of). As english is not the primary language here, it's pretty expected. But this actually motivating me to learn bahasa melayu.

In my opinion, the lack of pedestrian sidewalks has something to do with history when British as western colonizer came here, they built the road not for the convenience of the people, but for the British bosses to go to the highland where they drank tea with their British counterparts, or wives or their kids, or to visit plantation sites or to their offices with their cars and with drivers while they just sat at the back seat. And this mindset and city planning is unconsciously continued even after independence. Excuse that there is no sidewalks because of hot weather, is just BS. The same goes with Chinese in Malaysia. Watching your video, I sometimes wonder if the wave of Chinese immigration to south east Asia were of Muslim Chinese community like you, instead of those brought in by British to support their colonial economy, maybe the integration will be way better, way smoother, because we speak the same faith language.

I think why you didn't see young couples while you're in Malaysia probably due to few factors: (1) Since Malaysia is hot, most of couples (not all) prefer go to date in shopping malls, cafes - places with air conditioning (2) Also, most of the times people going on dates during the weekend, less in weekdays. (3) I think because of you visited Malaysia during Ramadhan, so probably people don't go dates that much just because of respecting the holy month. But there are some couples spending times together or break their fast (iftar). (4) Or probably nothing do to much during the day because most of couples during the date, they go out to eat or food hunting. So during Ramadhan, they cannot eat. These are just my assumption, but could be wrong

The pedestrian walkway should be inclusive to other pedestrians like those on wheelchairs and using PMD (Personal Mobility Device). Not only the road is accessible to those in wheelchairs and physically impaired but also makes it accessible to all the buildings. They need to improve in this area to make the road safer for all.

Not agree may be they stayed nearby hospital, and center city. HKL is near Kampung baru, i think they stayed around that area, police sirens normal for city centre, it can be accident, criminal cases, escorts. I live outside KL, police sirens, ambulance are very rare for us, but as I have routine visit to hospital which is in the Capital State, most of the times we can see ambulance in the road, as we have 3 main hospitals located here, not including 3-4 private 🏥. If you stayed around hot area for medical centre, industrial area, crimanal area, any detention centre, i am not surprised you say so.

Please come and visit the states in Malaysia. You can include the state mosque and other intersting mosques. Talking about smell, i think my home state also has a unique smell. Very different from where i stay now in selangor. When i was staying in Sarawak the smell there was different. I suppose you are right. There’s different smell in different places 🤔

Its ok for those disadvantage comments. Those are needed to do the necessary correction in Malaysia. For clarification, these are some points: 1. Halal certification is a bit strict and expansive business. Malaysian Standards MS1500, MS 2400, MS2424 and MS 2636, and FSMS/ISO:2200, GMP, HACCP and FSSC international standards ISO/IEC 17065. There are too many to comply before Malaysia Islamic Development Department issues the Halal Certificate. 2. On internet, Malaysia is not fully 5G covered. Still under development. But for internet speed, it depend on service provider package. Choose the correct one. Anyway, thank you for the visit. Hope you come again to Malaysia. That is why

If you in Malaysia again, From KLIA or KLIA2 u can take ERL or high speed train to kl city station, kl sentral station and from the you can get taxi or grab to your hotel. Faster and more convineant. Pls come back , look like you r confortable here. Take a break in langkawi island or historic town of malacca. Its totally different setting from KL city you hv visited

there are some places where pedestrian/motorcycle paths have been made, but even that is not wide enough. maybe because the area here is not wide, it is suitable for the area of this country, which is not as big as other countries. However... the facility is still there, just not all places are available. comment you will make us improve any shortcomings so that this country is more preferred to be visited by tourists. for the comments on Malaysia's advantages... thank you very much

What a co incidence.No..I think this is not co-incidence.There must be some reason behind this similarity. This makes me more excited to reads about what is the connection between the people of Negeri Sembilan and the people of Yunnan.

The point when you say you feel at home in Kuala Lumpur where you can hear the adzan in the city... I just want to say that one indonesian woman has stated in her tik tok that she never hear the adzan while she was im Malaysia. She visited Johor, Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur. She cried whe she reached her home town in Indonesia because she says that she can hear the adzan and she misses hearing adzan. Apparently while she was in Malaysia she didn't hear it.

In Malaysia, young couple dating do not do obvious affection action in the public, we respect other's feeling. Couples do watching movie together, they would buy couple seats, couples would eat together, but also sit properly in the public (well manners) so it is difficult to tell if they are dating or not. Nobody would do cuddling or kissing in the public in Malaysia, we tag these action as "no respect "

Figuring Halal restaurant is simple.. ALL Malay restaurants are HALAL.. MOST Chinese restaurants are NON-HALAL.. SOME Indian restaurants are NON-HALAL.. Malay restaurant DID NOT need to show a halal logo, because basically ALL Malays are MUSLIM.. However, other races MUST show HALAL logo if they serve halal foods.. About the girl wearing hijab in a non-halal restaurant.. You need to understand, most of the hijabi workers are Indonesian workers.. They just work in any fields/premises/shops/restaurants as they like, either its halal or not.. It's not our business to judge.. Local Muslims definitely will not work there, that for sure..

to say "most of the hijabi workers are Indonesian workers" is not exactly true. there are so many local hijabi Malays working in F&B and also restaurants with no halal cert. i'm talking about places like Ben's, Plan B etc, which serves alcohol and there are still Malay hijabis working there albeit part time. there are also non halal chinese places who asked their (usually Indonesian) workers to wear a hijab although they are not muslim. that part is a bit tricky & confusing for foreigners to navigate their way around. it's confusing even as a local.
