Oud Solo, Improvisation in Maqam Abou-Ata (Abu Ata)

In this video I play an improvisation in Dastgah Abou Ata (Maqam Abu-Ata) based on Gusheh Daramad, and Gusheh Hejaz(Oj). Abu-Ata is one the old Maqams of Persian classical music and it is similar to Maqam Hijaz in Turkish and Arabic music which these three cultures have common roots.

عین یک شب مهتاب که در جاده ایی با سنگفرشهایی که نور ماه را منعکس میکنند! خیلی با این قطعه حال کردم. چینش اتاق، صحنه آرایی و نت هایی که بر روح می نشیند تاثیری خلسه آور دارد. نورپردازی روی آن عود پشت صحنه بسیار زیبا به فضا سازی ابو عطایی کمک کرده است. این کار شما را چندین بار دیدم. خودخواهانه می خواهم بگویم، خواهش کنم که زمان قطعات را طولانی کنید. بسیار طولانی تر! خیلی زیباست! ممنون از این کانال زیبای آثارتان. ابوعطاتان خیلی زیبا بود!

ممنون و باز هم ممنونم. این قطعه اولین قطعه اجرا شده در کانال است و بهمین دلیل برای من اهمیت زیاد داشت و البته دارد. چه خوب که این تعاریف و توصیفات رو از جانب کسی مثل شما شنیدم. امیدوار کننده بود. اطاعت دستور خواهم کرد❤️🙏

Is this the same as Maqam Kurd? Essentially D, E1/2b, F, G, A, Bb, C, D?

Yes, this is. As you know, many maqams in Iran, Arab and Turkish music culture are similar or have the same roots, but there are also changes and differences that have happened over time. The maqam Kurd in Iranian music is a part of a larger and more original Maqam called Shur, which is closer to maqam Kurd in Turkish and Arab music. Of course, in the first Dang, maqam Kurd actually moves in the direction of the friggin step.

Kurd doesn't have have quarter tone. In kurd , it's just mi bemol We call the one you mentioned Maqam Bayat

Thank you for your comment. I actually bought this oud many years ago in Tehran, which was made by Mohammad Taghi Arafati. The tune is very dependent on our major Oud culture like Arabic, Turkish, or Persian style, but I believe the main point is tuning fourth
