I honestly think it's wrong that they copied the bottle design so specifically. I mean, companies are going to make "their version of" there's nothing anyone can do about that, however, this is just a blatant theft of, bottle, logo and name design, even more so I think now that most designer and some niche companies don't even use real oud and a lot of fragrances use mostly aroma chemicals the use of the gas spectrometry machines enables them to use this technology to analyze and completely duplicate fragrances with ease. It no secret that in Countries like United Arab Emirates and China the copyright laws are different than the US. Im sure they couldn't care less. That doesnt make it right. I personally have only smelled the real oud for greatness and i doubt oud for glory is as smooth as the original.

Even if they were to copyright fragrances, brands/companies need to release the formulas for that. And you better believe it's the last thing they want, for their formulas to be out there. imagine getting PdM and dior formulas... It'd be so great LOL

Arfgh, I was just about to buy the original Initio Oud for greatness but I'm not as much into lavande as I'm into the spiciness and nutmeg. Now I'm not sure. I prefer a clean refined juice tho. So I might stick to the original. What do you think? Edit: after you asked about the copyright I actually realized that I don't mind getting dupes for big brands that are worldwide established. Like big conglomerate businesses as Louis Vuitton etc But I will support initio. I'm getting the real deal.
I'm a fragrance collector and as much as people might not want to hear it, the fragrance world has completely lost touch with reality when it comes to price. Clones do a good job at exposing this. Fragrance companies are becoming more concerned with being status symbols than producing rememberable fragrances.

I'm all for supporting original creations, but when a clone house can make a really close copy of your work and sell it at 10% of the price, that just shows how much we're getting overcharged. And I can understand people going for the clonen instead as the original isn't worth the price at all, despite what the paid reviewers said.

Lattafa is indeed the initio killer. Great offering
I don’t feel bad for these brands, tbh, Sebastian. Because I know how CHEAP it is to create a fragrance. That famous youtuber, Jeremy, said the production costs around10$ for a bottle or something around there. And another example, look how cheap Lataffa sells this Oud for glory for a pretty decent offering: 50$! Which shows that the big brands are doing unethical marketing, like all high fashion designers out there. Fortunately, I can afford to buy the original, but it’s unfair to be charged 10 times the production costs. So no, I don’t shed a tear for them.

@@meh5meh calm down, we are not here to fight. Yes, I am entitled to my opinion. While you are right about supply and demand, nobody can deny that the prices are outrageous and unjustifiable. That’s the reality. I am a wise consumer, who knows the real VALUE of these things. If for you that’s ok, good for you.
Copying the bottle is kinda tacky, but I have no problems with brands copying the scent.
Why deny the less fortunate a close enough version of a high end perfume. We all deserve to smell nice.
In my opinion, they don't target the same customer. I feel that somehow it put certain niche brands on the spotlight by copying them.... I'm pretty sure that baccarat rouge 540 ended selling more after the rise of its clones, there was such a huge subconscious publicity...
I would buy the Initio IF it was around $100-$150 . Almost $400 is ludicrous.
First time commenting. Have recently bought Oud for Glory and I absolutely love it, I have however not smelled the original as I have nothing to go off. I have also purchased Raghba and have only just purchased Oud Mood today. I would love to buy the original fragrances but my budget does not allow at the moment.
There is no copyright anywhere in the world for scents. Many large brands have tried to sue and lost. That is why clones exploded. However, they could definitely get sued for design and name. Most clones don't try to clone the name and bottle that closely, but these fragrances could definitely get sued. It is so close and they are pushing the limits with these ones.
Sebastian good video again... I will say this, there is a market for clones/inspired by, as long as the manufacturer doesnt full on go out and copy every detail of the original. Not everybody can spend hundreds of dollars, but would like to smell nice as well.

I only have Lattafa Maahir Black Edition and I love it. Since I don't know a lot of incense scents, I wasn't looking for something that smells like this or that from more expensive brands. I just like it for the way it is, longevity is amazing. After reformulations I won't buy perfume just because it has Lancome or Dior written on the bottle. I bought Magie Noire after reformulation and it was such a disappointment. I started looking for something else, namely vintage perfumes and something, that has long history, for example Santa Maria Novella. I admit, I was wrong in the beginning, Santa Maria Novella scents do smell all day long. Or Robert Piguet, I ended up bying 3 scents - Bois Noir, Oud and Casbah. At least I have something that stays with me all day long. I also got something very unique from our own Polish perfume creator. He created a scent of forest and meadow as he remembers it from his childhood in the countryside. He also explained how a lot of smells are created today - very short beginning (instead of top notes), main accord and huge background around everything, usually molecules. So he takes his time, makes his own extraits and makes his scents the way they were created in the past.
Genre Parfums has a spot on dupe for Oud for Greatness! It’s called Sacred Oud! I purchased a 30 ml for $25 and compared it against a Maxaroma decant😍😍 This was just one of the many fragrances that I discovered there. My fav thus far is their original scent called Essence! ❤️
I come from an EastAfrican country, we tend to have areas with close knit Arab communities, I remember growing up going to these places and the perfume bazzars and small fragrance shops selling oils and perfume in tiny vials you could get for less than a dollar with the same ID as OFG, I think because of this most western niche interpretations of Oud don't wow me, I grew up with these scents I have sampled Initios OFG, did not understand the price point... got a sample of Lattafas OFG and its pretty close... I think the scent ID isn't anything that hasn't and isn't being done.... the branding and design however haha, but I guess it got the job done because everyone is talking about the blatant cloning.
I love this kind of video! Keep it up, Sebastian!
That was delightful and fun to watch as far as the struggle keeping the names straight!! You did better than I would have!! Thanks for the video :)
Have 3 bottles of oud for glory, got them for around $33 each , more than happy with the price to what you get ratio
I was given a mini 7.5 ml of Oud For Greatness from my favorite fragrance boutique in Montreal called Etiket. I fell in love with it but it's only 7.5ml, so when I had the opportunity to get Oud For Glory for only $36, I had to be sure before I ordered it. I found this comparison video and decided based on your review that Oud For Glory would be worth the blind buy risk. Tonight, I tested both to compare. Greatness on my left hand and Glory on my right and they smell virtually the same. The only difference to my nose is Greatness feels a bit rounder and smoother. Glory actually projects better from my skin so far. It's so good. Thanks for this video, Sebastian. I'm so glad I jumped on Glory. I just saved myself $400 CAD by buying it instead of Greatness.

They get away with it because you cannot copyright/patent/trademark a smell. And the bottles are just different enough so that there is no infringement.
Great video and I enjoyed it and I'm going to try these fragrances and have a blessed night
Classical music is filled with riffing and sampling and the result is hundreds of years of an abundantly rich catalog from liturgical choral to the 3 B's and beyond. Similarly, I would offer La Yuqawan and Tobacco Blaze as being arguably superior to theirr "inspired by" brethren. Beginning to revisit and enjoy ouds. Thanks for your increasing archive of great videos.
your are right I have both of them and they smells really close to each other. To me they are so close until it is hard to tell which one you are smelling.
I’m glad you did this. I bought Oud for Greatness…it’s a lot of money for a bottle of juice, but I love it (so does my lizard pet). I wish I knew more about the perfume world. Its a beast. for the price. I have both the Niche and Lattafa.
This can be argued as an example of trademark infringement where the bottle design is very similar and easily can cause confusion amongst the buying public. The problem is that protecting the trademark involves costly litigation. Initio can easily start with a cease and desist letter and pursue litigation if warranted. If, however, “Oud for Glory”changed the bottle design, they could continue to sell the juice. The question is did Initio ever register a trade service mark for its name “Oud for Greatness” and if they did, they may be able to legally challenge the “Oud for Glory” name. But they would have to pursue this legally. Depending on the law firm and the legal challenges the legal costs can be prohibitively high on any infringement act.
MY OUD FOR GLORY PACKAGING WAS CRACKED TOO! I sampled oud for greatness and bought oud for glory the next day. it smells very close, but it didn't feel the same as oud for greatness to me. however! if you haven't sampled or tried oud for greatness, then the lattafa is a steal!! Great video! Is Oud for glory similar to Sauvage Elixir on the dry down.?
A somewhat similar example could be Midnight Oud by Ard Al Zaafaran, vs. Amouage Interlude. The aesthetics of the bottle are not so similar, but superficially the packaging clearly hints at the packaging of Interlude. And the smell is not only very similar, Midnight Oud is actually ranked higher than Interlude both on Fragrantica and Parfumo. I have Midnight Oud and have also smelled both Interlude and Interlude Black Iris. They are really very very similar. About the copying of the looks, not sure that's the big legal issue, more so I'd think would be the fragrance itself. But how to draw the line between flat out clones vs. the so called "inspired by" fragrances? Those also can milk quite huge amounts of money out of the similarity to the original (e.g. Explorer vs. Aventus), but is that also copyright infrigement and lawsuit worthy? Or is it not? For songs not sure why it is more clear cut. For example I remember a big scandal about Shakira allegedly using a small piece of an older famous merengue melody for the trumpets in her "My hips don't lie" song. Because she made millions with her song, even if it didn't become lawsuit worthy (not sure if it finally did), at least it was worldwide scandal-worthy for sure that she had used that little melody from somewhere else. And this is just because of some small melodic fragment that lasts only a few seconds within an entire 3+ minute song, so a very small percentage. Clones and "inspired by" fragrances I think relatively speaking clearly copy a lot more than just small %'s to resemble the overall scent profile to be cloned or to be hinted at. PS. Yet another example could be Rasasi Fattan vs. Terre de Hermes. Bottles don't look alike at all in this case, but the scent similarity is just jaw drapping.

Afnan Supremacy in Oud? I doubt you'd review it, but I would like your opinion of it in comparison to Oud for Glory... Thanks Sebastian for the content you put out as is always looking forward to your take on new fragrances and top 20 fragrances in certain categories.
I actually prefer Lataffa's Bade'e al Oud Amethyst way better !! The Oud for Glory was just an "OK" for me...and the RIIF's one was....."meh"...IMO. And yes, the severe bottle "copying" is not really "necessary"...IMHO.
And how Roja Dove can get away with copying Mitsouko by Guerlain? His Diaghilev is almost an exact replica of Mitsouko.
Great video! For some perspective on what you were wondering on about copying...I see it like this: if you were a clothes designer and someone made a design for a striped blue shirt...that doesn't mean you cant make a striped blue shirt. Or since you said you were into music, think about when someone does a particular style good and then other artists come out that copy their style of music and even the way they dress. I don't think there is a substantial argument that one company can own a black bottle with gold arabic type design. And as for the scent, if they didn't just copy their exact recipe...sadly, it's not copying. Btw I'm also a musician/artist/producer so I totally get the integrity side of the argument. But I think that's different from the question is if something is technically legal or whatever. Does this all make sense? Again though, great video! I love your content.
Those bottles are close, but not copies. They are not knockoffs. Artwork is different, caps are different, names are different. Cloning happens all the time between designers and niche brands. Where is the line when taking “inspiration”? Latafa has some good originals as well. Checkout Raghba Wood Intense if you haven’t already.

How is the difference of the longevity between these too ? How much do they project and last ?
And fun fact: The scent dna of Oud for Greatness is a copy of WIDIAN Velvet Collection - Liwa, which was released 2017, one year before OfG ☝️🤠
@basssik2828
2 жыл бұрын
I have owned both and I absolutely disagree with your point. Liwa is just an outright widian’s take on the br540 with amber tones and smoky. OFG also may have the 540 sweetness underneath due to the saffron in the base with Oud or woodiness. After owning all 3 i would say 540 is just sweet and OFG is more pungent and dark. Liwa is just in between.
The Oud for Glory is brilliant, more nutmeg than the OG for sure but you can layer it with a soft lavender and it’s perfect. For the price of it what’s the point in buying Initio’s version.

I went to ScentXplore 2019 and I still have the samples for OFG & AR; that’s how I was able to distinguish the difference between the two. I got the lattafa when it was released for around 20USD, have a decant of OFG, was never a fan of that ethyl maltol sweetness from BR. Tho, I do appreciate lattafa for pulling off such a close rendition of OFG, but surely, considering the artistic creative point of view of things, lattafa does no good, they're just clones at the end of the day. However, looking from a different angle, the release of Oud for Glory actually made OFG and Initio as a standalone house more pronounced in the south Asian part of the world.

In all my myriad years of buying perfume, and I have myriads of full bottles, to the point that there is no more room for any more in my small condo, I have NEVER bought a clone of any perfume. However, it is ridiculous to pay the prices that some of these perfume houses are asking unless you are a wealthy person. I have always yearned to own Roja Diagalov (Sp.), but could never afford to spend over $1.000,00 for a perfume. However, no matter how close a clone came to it for any given small price, I would not buy it because it still would be a different perfume and not the original. Unfortunately, even without being a clone, there are still lots of legitimate perfumes out there that are not original either but like so many others on the market.

If you like Roja Diaghilev just buy Mitsouko by Guerlain. ☺ Diaghilev is almost an exact replica of Mitsouko.

@@phyllisiervello You can also try EDT or a vintage one. Extrait is the best (i have a vintage formulation).
I need to watch more of these, tired spending hundreds for fragrances.
Ombre nomade and The Moon same fragrance or not
Hi Sebastian. I have a similar bad experience but with a fake perfume that I bought. Which actually made me hate the original real perfume. Just from the way it trigger my brain. That even it was such a very long time, but I still remember that until now. I really like when u said Chanel would be on their ass. 🤭🤭. I like that. Chanel would fix them for sure. 😂. Thank you Sebastian.

The argument for perfume not being able to be copywritten like other art is because the materials used are found in nature so you can't copywrite nature itself, yet in modern perfumery we constantly used synthetics to produce accords so it becomes ironic when its more man made than natural.

Aren't sound frequencies also in nature? Their combination into melodies and harmonies and music can be copyrighted though. But the combination of notes and chemicals into fragrances can't. Something does not quite fit

Perfume is like food. Can't copyright it
You can't copyright a fragrance. Free market. The bottle are different enough also. Look at all the fragrances out there, and many of the big brands have similar lettering, bottle shadows, and designs. Not identical, but it's a fine line. Lataffa did more than enough to make it different without getting sued, but you absolutely cannot copyright a fragrance. As far as trademarks, I noticed that fragrance companies just don't bother with it.
Fun fact, in south California, I found a store that was selling lattafa's counterfeit for 10$.

Hello, latifa oud glory is around 20$ in the UAE markets
Please can you make a video for MFK Oud Satin Mood and its clone Oud Satin by Paris Corner Ministry of Oud you will be surprised
Can middle eastern fragrances be sampled?
I have oud for glory it's pretty close but doesn't perform well on me
It's the same as in music, you can't Copywrite Melodic sequences, in parfum, you can't copywrite or trademark "looks" - they have to be specific marks. If they lookalikes started calling themselves the same name as the original there may be infringements.
hi whats about the longivity and sillage of lattafa copy ?!?
Great video, thanks a lot, please more Latafa videos
There’s another one I found by noya oud is great and it smells so good

Hi I've seen this online, apparently Noya is made by Afnan, I'm tempted, how is the longevity and sillage?
