What nice progress. I love how she’s already starting to look for the correct answer. She almost looks pleased with herself when she gets the right answers. She relaxes more and more as she’s learning that the right answer is figure-out-able! ❤️

Horse is very lucky that her owner found a trainer with solutions. A double blessing is an owner that pays for time to allow patience & a trainer that will press the "bubble", while reads the body signs & can reset if needs to. A balance of finances, time, and skill drills to address the mare's blocking is saving her life. An abused horse driven to biting humans is not often given that second chance.

Really nice job. My sense from the first, when Ryan Rose was doing the assessment, is that this mare is a right-brain introvert that had been manhandled (literally) to the point that her self-defense looks like aggression. She doesn't know yet to trust, but progressive challenges that let her find the answer will lead her to seek connection with the human. Your pacing throughout this session is fantastic.

She is a lovely mare. 😊

This is a very interesting horse. She seems very conflicted. She wants to be connected then gets concerned and defensive. I’m really enjoying watching your different techniques and tools and will definitely use them as needed. Looking forward to seeing the continued progress.

Your doing a fine job. My Uncle had a horse auction in Miami In the 60's. We got stuck with a lot of problem horses. I learned from him and several other ole horse traders that drifted thru how to turn them around. We made some fair to good horses out of them and were able to get good homes and enjoyable lives for most. Keep your cool head and learn from all that pass thru your life and you'll go far.

I see a horse who really has a lot of emotional trauma. She guards herself and has yet to accept that she's no in danger. I'd say she's stove up and just waiting for bad things to happen. She won't ever be a horse for a weekend trail rider. After her training, she needs a lot of continued reinforcement and patience. Ground work is everything! I wonder if she has vision problems in her right eye. Thanks!

My 2 favorite things were 1) that you took the saddle back off from the “off” side and 2) when you took the rope off, she stayed with you. Big progress and can’t wait to watch the next one. ❤️

She definitely don’t like small spaces. I’ve learned to watch their tail when they get upset. Got that one from Ryan. I was always taught to watch their ears. All I knew was from my grandpa, the rest I got on my on. Your doing a good job with her though

Is there a good example of training a really willing and cooperative horse, I am thinking the opposite of a problem horse? Interesting horse. I see so much energy in her ears, head and neck whenever your around. I almost thought she might have gone for you again if things had shifted even a little. I'm so glad she is with you getting the training she needs. In this case is she looking for a leader or is she the leader keeping herself safe?

She must have had some bad experiences in the stall setting as she is so untrusting there.

I love your training style. I admire that you tried a different way when the small pen method had been successful, but then failed. My question is, if the new method starts to work well, is it just a matter of sticking with it for it to be successful on a more permanent basis? Is it common for a horse to learn something, you are thinking you are progressing, and then they forget what was learned and you have to keep thinking of new ways to get the message across?

It’s more that the need/pressure for stronger commitment caused the reversion. Once the answer to come get haltered is strong enough and confident we will be able to add some umph to it. The reversion just shows how week of a thing it was, which we knew and needed to hear the horse basically ask for a different setup. She’ll get to where she. I come she’ll swing to me and drop her head to get haltered with that shoulder presentation you are seeing to get rubbed.

Where you get those long sticks? These would help my untouched filly get more comfortable with touch,I can only touch her muzzle with my hand, she will accept my crop stick on her chest and neck but haven't got any further with my hands, I've been doing this at liberty,but plan on getting her in a closed stall,in round pen I can't get close enough with crop stick cause she walks off .

For this horse I’d say it’s lack of quality exposure on the right side. More exposure and experience with the human on the left.

Depends why they are biting. Backing cures biting is a saying. That’s if it is a yielding problem. This horse is biting because it feels trapped and defends itself. So more space and confidence build while building in yielding as while gets the balance back.

This is really hard to watch. This mare is barely tolerating this, and IMO the training is going way to fast for her. Not surprised she bit...trainer does not seem to be reading this horse well as he should as he is a professional.

Oh good you can come show us how! Takes pressure off me. The answer to the question you didn’t ask is it’s as fast as possible without crossing the line. It’s what real professionals do to not just spend clients money, over stress the horse and stay steady ahead. Of course we could go slower but that isn’t keeping everything involved in balance. But what do I know, I just have been doing this for a living for a long time….

@@peartreeranch Wow, what a response! I would absolutely LOVE to come show you some things. You will need to pay for my trip there, lodging and of course my time. My statement was made based on watching the mare's body language. She was swishing her tail, placing one back leg in readiness to move out fast, tense in her body and her ears threatening. All really clear signs she was not happy about anything you were doing, including the stroking. The only time I saw her WILLINGLY follow you with ears eager was when you ended the session and she knew she was returning to her baren pen. Then, you walked inside the pen, which apparently you have not been doing lately, and she was once again INSTANTLY on guard, tense and ready for evasive/defensive action. IMO this horse needs lots of time. Lots of the right type of quality time, not demanding anything of this mare. Treats, brushing, hand grazing, positive time with one human handler, including all feeding and stall cleaning, until she begins to trust that person and WILLINGLY approach them without fear or aggression. Only once this is achieved, can she be restarted (as if she was an unstarted horse). JMO.

@@chivasmom2024have you been watching the series? One of the reasons this horse is so defensive is because people going into her space without permission. So why would you want to intrude on her space and make her tolerate you brushing her a giving her cookies? She’s obviously bothered…she’s a troubled horse…kind of the point. Everything takes time but too much time isn’t good either. Why leave them in that state for so long? She doesn’t know what good is yet but she’s figuring it out. Leaving her in this unconfident state by going too slow is torture. Pressure causes change. She needs to change to help her be happy and confident along with safe for people to be around so she can enjoy the undemanding time and quality time of brushing etc People wait so long to help their horses change then everyone gets stuck. No progress. Horses need and crave boundaries and leadership. That is what gives them their safety.

@@stephanie-lettherebelight everyone has their opinion. IMO, this horse has suffered trauma, and needs decompression time. The process I was talking about takes months, if not years. Teaching her ANYTHING while she is in this frame of mind does nothing but reinforce the idea that people just want to work them. IMO, until this mare shows a willingness to be around a person, no training can occur. She is shut off to people and just wants to be left alone. I would put her out in a pasture with the gentlest, friendliest horse around and let that horse help teach her that people are not instruments of torture. Being put in a stall or in a round pen and worked, is stressing her for no good reason. She has already shown herself to be aggressive in a stall, as she is trapped in a small space. Put her outside, let her be a horse for a while and decompress. Only one person needs to be around her at all. No hand grazing or haltering until she willingly comes up to the person on her own. Treats can definitely help this process, as it may be she has never been given treats. She needs kindness. Studies have conclusively shown that horses treated with kindness and affection retain that trust even with other people. She is not ready for even a stroking or petting. She is closed off and barely tolerating him. She looks to be ready to change that at any moment. The number one important thing to me with horses, is to ask yourself, are they WILLING, do they want to be with me? That is not the same thing at all as have they been trained to approach when pressure is released.

I would LOOK AWAY from the horse when giving release., no? Staring at her tells her something ain't right, you're not satisfied, or you're just not comfortable with what she just did.

WRONG! You’ve watched too many horsemanship videos. Looking at her keeps connection, builds connection and understanding. Turning away is a people teaching technique for learning to turn your energy off to create release. But what do I know I’ve only fixed a gazillion of these things and help everyone from Old ladies to past and future Olympic riders and top trainers.
