J’aime ton accent malinké ❤️
@Ankataa
4 жыл бұрын
Merci Suleiman!

It's amazing to see you can speaking Mandinka/Dioula/Bambara with this amazing ease. Love from Sierra Leone... In Sierra Leone, we're called Mandinka no matter the background; however, I don't see much need to be called all these names whilst we're actually the same people with the same language and culture. The Difference in pronunciation is similar to the difference in the British and American English. Let's just have one name as in 'Mandinka' to refer to any person from 'Manding''.
@Ankataa

Thank you so much for the nice comment, Fofana :-) I share the sentiment that you have; that's why I often just tell people that I teach and speak "Manding" instead of listing different varieties. Plus the perspective that you have is the same one that is behind the N'ko writing system and social movement: to create one writing system and standard for all Manding varieties, so that writing is harmonized across different ways of speaking just like for many other major languages of the world
Always making nice video

Hello Guy, I love your videos. I wonder if you could do something for me. I found a document with my great4X removed grandfather's name on it. His name was Maguella Fomba. Could you ask someone if that name is associated with a particular ethnic group in Mali?

Hi! Glad you like them Kihindei :-) I have never heard the last name "Fomba" so my initial reaction is that it is not Manding. That said, there a different regional traditions and tons that I don't know. Could you provide any more information on the document? For instance: is it in Arabic or Latin script? Where is it from? What is the nature of the text? Look forward to learning more! I ni ce

I think joula is more closer to Gambian mandinka. I do understand it more than bambara. May be it's due to the way Malian to speak.
@Ankataa

I ni ke! Thanks for sharing. I'm not surprised, Bambara has a few features that actually make it the outlier when you view all of the Manding varieties together. This is especially the case of the use of "D" in place of "L" in certain words!
