【About Asian Small-clawed Otters】
First, otters are different from sea otters.
Sea otters spend most of their time in the water, but otters can live both on the ground and in water.
A few years ago, trafficking otters became a serious problem, and in 2019, CITES (Washington Convention) increased the classification of otters from CITESⅡ to CITES I, which banned international trade.
Having an otter as a pet is illegal in most countries. However, in Japan, otters can be traded, although it is limited to domestic breeds only.
Currently, severe restrictions are in place for buying and selling otters in Japan. For example, microchips need to be inserted in both babies and parents, and owners need a special permit. Circumstances of birth must also be reported in detail.
As a result, there is currently no buying and selling of baby otters in the market. There is a severe penalty for selling and buying otters with unknown birth origins without permits. This was effective in eliminating trafficking, and we don’t see otter trafficking on the news anymore.
Kotaro and Hana were both born in Japan and have permits.
It is so much work to have an otter as a pet. You need to be ready for more than its cuteness. They are loud, and they sometimes bite you. Food and water get very expensive, and you cannot keep otters in cages because they are active. Also, we never leave them at home. We always look after them closely like we do with human children, and our top priority is always them.
If you want to have an otter as a pet, you must be able to follow the law and devote your life to it. If you don’t have that resolve, you should never have one as a pet.

Poor Jasmine just wants to play and be friends.... Hana needs her beauty sleep, not to be grumpy. And everyone bonds over food snacks. 😄😄❤🦦🦦
Otters are territorial and since Hana can be a bit aggressive she shooed Jasmine out friendly or not. Poor pupper just wanted to play with them since she is so friendly

Actually if people would pay closer attention to Hana's body language when Jasmine is around, they might realize that Hana is a little afraid of the dog. You know that Hana is shy with people and animals outside her family group. To us Jazz is adorable and friendly. To Hana, a little otter, Jazz is a bigger animal with big teeth who barks and keeps trying to herd her. I also think Hana's human parents are on the money pointing out that Hana waa also tired and wanted some sleep. But it's also typical of Hana to apologize for her outburst by trying to play with Jasmine the next day.

1:00 It was right here I saw Hana looking ready to pounce like a tiger! It was so adorbs! But to see Jasmine looking so sad made me wanta pet and hug her to at least cheer her up from bully Hana! She don't deserve to be pounced! 🥺 I'm glad the Kota fam's doing okay! I know I've been kinda having it rough as of late, but I'm doing what I can to hang in there and just get most things done and stuff, so I hope ya have a great week! ❤

Pay attention to Hana's body language and how she sometimes stiffens when Jazz is around, not just here but in other videos too. She's a little afraid of Jazz.
Happy to see that Hana and Jasmine were back to being friends after that misunderstanding. When Hana and Kotaro play hide and seek under the blankets, it's hard for Jasmine to find them😂 and they just stick their little heads out, so cute❤
I find it so fascinating the way species as different as these three are able to sense and read each others' emotions. It makes obvious sense between dogs and humans, since we've lived so long together. But the otters -- even if you take into account the humorous interpretations of their actions in these wonderful videos -- clearly get the cues.

Having been a fan and watching these two since the beginning I’m beginning to think that Kotaro and Hana (along with Captain Aty) are actually humans.
Great place for peoples and their animals and friendly Jasmine as a nanny for guests...have a nice time with lots of adventures together and los of delicacies...😆🤩😍🦦💛🦦💚🐶💜

She's tired and a little afraid of the dog, as is clear from other videos of her with Jasmine. Look at it from Hana's perspective. To us Jazz is adorable and friendly. To Hana, a little otter, Jazz is an animal with big teeth and a bigger body who barks and keeps trying to herd her (a natural Corgi instinct). It would seem intimidating to an otter - they are territorial animals.
