I listened to this song a few times and was entranced with the power and emotion of the musicianship though I had no idea what it was about........then I switched on the subtitles and it brought tears to my eyes - a masterpiece in the art of performance, and a song more poignant today than ever. This is one heck of an amazing band; I hope they never lose that spirit.

When I saw this video yesterday, I was so stuck: it immediately called to my mind articles I had read a few month ago about the young soldiers on the Moksva ship. They were 18/20 years old and did not even know why they died. As the song says "You've put me down in your ledger as a soldier. You damn war, what have you done?". Your song made me cry, in memory of these young men and for their families who now miss them. I wish we could all live in peace.

Я в отставке. Извини брат, но как я считал, вас врагами, так и считаю. А будет такая необходимость, встану под ружьё. Слишком разные наши системы управления. Мне эта песня нравится. Объясню почему. Мы в армию не всегда по желанию шли. Но Родина - это свято! Я под иноземцем служить , в любом случае, отказался бы. Это моё мнение.

@@iouriselvester5810 очень жаль, что вы во всём видите "некоторый подтекст". Глубину этой песни могут понять только те люди, которые хорошо знают историю. В истории России был период, когда в армию забирали принудительно на срок 20 и более лет. Родственники и любимая девушка провожали его, понимая, что больше не увидятся. Человек возвращался из армии (если, конечно, возвращался) глубоким стариком, ближайшие родственники которого уже умерли, а своей семьи у него не было. В этом и состоял весь трагизм ситуации.

Isolation has meant hours of practising my musical instruments (recorders and fiddle), playing Irish tunes (Chieftains, Dubliners etc) and Baroque stuff. Why is it that music, wherever it’s coming from, always can be understood by people worldwide? Accidentally this band came along via KZread (well, accidentally?) and it grabbed me in an instant. The similarities between Irish and Scottish music is astonishing but this band makes the best out of it. I don’t understand where they are singing about and I don’t understand one single word of the language, though my lucky guess is the are singing about the past and all it’s poverty, I love it very much.
