Such a stunning, wonderful place. I would love to visit. I can’t imagine actually being there, seeing the statues, the architecture, and the bricks and mortar placed by working hands. The trees are amazing also. Thank you so much. Maybe some.

10 years ago I got to visit and spent the whole day. I will not lie. I found the store rooms where they collected the mosaic pieces that had not been processed by archaeologists. Buckets of them. They were not locked. I got to touch them, (with extreme care) and even tempted to take one. I did not but i held it and enjoyed the idea. I crawled into an underground chamber. I stood in Cybele's temple in the market. I crawled under the gymnasiums heated floor. I even found the fenced off bath. Right before I was chased out by a swarm of bees. I alerted the security of the unlocked archaeology, and as I was emptying my pockets of garbage I had been collecting along my way, there was a single shaft of sunlight poking through right on the center of the market area where I had been. Probably the most overlooked place to go and a memory I will take to my grave.

Great tour and brings back lots of memories when I visited Ostia several times in the past. It's an easy trip on the train from Roma (you can use your Metro card to get to it). Stay the day and grab lunch in the Castello di Guilio II. Very quaint Medieval hamlet that you can't miss just before you get to the ticket booth at Ostia (off to the right is a castle). Enjoy!

Wonderful walk!! I couldn't have had a better tour guide if I'd actually been in Ostia. I feel like I've attended a seminar given by an expert.

If you do watch this back, the subtitles do a pretty good job of understanding him. though they do say "insulin" when he said "insula" which is the latin name for an apartment block.
