The osteopathic component of their education is pseudoscience, but they also receive a standard medical education. DOs are fully licensed physicians, and most don't regularly use osteopathic manipulation.

@@meem7309 Yes. But they graduate in 4 years, just like an M.D. OMT really works well with people having chronic headaches because they can drain sinuses using OMT, reducing headaches and freeing patients from medication. I heard an excellent lecture at UCF, where a guest lecturer with a PhD told me he went to a D.O. doctor by mistake. Instead of prescribing medication for his chronic headache like most doctors, the D.O. doctor asked why he had the headache, examined his body to see whether his pelvic bones were in place, the diet he was eating, and finally, examined his face. The doctor, placing his hand inside the back of the patient’s mouth at certain points, told him to come again next week for a follow-up to see if he needed medication. He was upset because he wanted the medication immediately, but the DO did not prescribe it. As the guest speaker drove his car, he slowly felt his sinus drain and blood rushing towards his face. His headache was gone, and he no longer needed any medication. So OMT is real, and DOs study that in addition to what MDs study. But most DOs will just prescribe medication, like MDs, because they see a lot of patients and simply don’t have the time. DO doctors are very practical because they also focus on the environment and nutrition, the root cause of the problem, rather than just the medical illness.

So no.. they actually are far different. My grandfather was an ostiopath and a surgeon holding the title of ostiopathic surgeon amd one difference right away is they are medically licenced. Meaning they have to pass medical school and have to go to at least 7 years or more. That being g said they can also use medicine as in prescription based, since chiropractors are not they eill not prescribe you anything. Also they are very close in reference to that of a physical trainer having using every method of PT in there beginning courses. They also can do house visits although not commonly practiced. And can also have there own medically licenced office put anywhere they want
