Oscar Peterson Trio: Satin Doll (1988)
Here is another fantastic clip from OP's 1988 appearance at the Bern Jazz Festival. With Dave Young & Martin Drew, here is Duke Ellington & Billy Strayhorn's "Satin Doll".

How many thousand times, night after night, he had to play this absolute winner, probably his most popular interpretation?
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has many hours of Oscar Peterson recordings, beginning from when he was a teenager. When he passed on, they played many of those recording, and I remember one in particular. I'm sorry I don't remember the song, and I don't remember where, or when it was recorded, but I remember this. He was playing along in his usual excellent style, and about 2/3rds of the way through the song, he took off like a 747 roaring into the sky. He went to another level altogether. The freedom and joy of his playing just took your breath away. I can't even imagine what it must have been like for those in the audience. A glimpse of heaven. He was truly one of the best.
This was the song that leaped me into Jazz in 1975. Not this particular performance. No it was with Brown and Thigpen.
So This Is Why The Heavens Invented Piano !!!!!
Mr. Peterson was a Master on those Black and White keys. R. I.P. my brother. R.I.P. 5/28/2023
Martin you were able to hold on to those moments where Oscar went silly and jammed in those couple of ongoing stalls and left the thing just hanging for seconds in the later verses. Well done lad...
Saw Oscar in 1997 with my whole family at his return after a 1994 stroke at Carnegie Hall. A courageous return since his left hand was effected. Unbeliveable performance.
GENIUS. There are no words to describe his artistry. Just Amazing!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️
God sent this one artist to cheer up the world....he saved me from any a tear....LOL...GOD BLESS HIS MEMORY.
Love how Oscar slyly throws "Corner Pocket" into the solo. Always thought Oscar's solos sounded stylistically more like a horn player than a pianist. So inventive!
Genius!!!
Absolutely beautiful
Please pay attention to Martin Drew. Have you ever seen a drummer like him?
