0:51 maybe it was a circular breathing. He didn't want to cut the phrase, but then at 1:06 you can see him to breath in the same way,but 1:06 is definitely not a circular breathing. 0:51 of course I can't be sure,but because 0:51 can be played without circular breathing especially by a God brass player like Clark Terry my belief is, that it's just his breathing an playing technique. And I noticed, that always when he plays the lower notes,he relaxes his face muscles allowing ear to enters around his mouth. This change the sound color of the lower notes. And when he plays the higher notes, he tights his face muscles and that's gives the illusion of circular breathing. Of course I can be wrong 🤷♂️

@@coolguysproduction3202 Absolutely, although you can't really compare them. Clark Terry is a better trumpet player from a technical perspective but what made Miles so great is that he was such in innovater.

Some jazz musicians you have to listen to for a while before you start to get it, some, well, you never do get. Sonny, you only have to hear one time. Then you want to hear everything the man ever recorded. I so envy those of you who saw him live.

4:36. Part of clark Terry’s signature sound is his ability to bend notes effortlessly. He’s doing this all with his lip- not valves...after playing Mack the knife and an entire balled. Crazy good

can someone explain why the drummer was moving his drumstick in circles??? what does that do?
@kodabenavidez9727
2 жыл бұрын
what the drummer is using aren’t actually sticks, they’re called brushes. they provide a softer sound than sticks do for a piece like this. as for the circular motion, it’s a technique used to create a “groove” of sorts using the snare, nothing too crazy just a stylistic choice, but it’s very common in jazz pieces prior to the advent of hard bop and other faster styles of jazz :)

I love OP but he so often seemed to be trying to break a speed record and 'overplaying.'
Personally, I find that Adam Neely's ideas are interesting, but, generally, I find him a bit preachy and am not really a fan, but I'd be remiss to not recognize the number of people he has guided to this masterpiece.
