Listening to this unbelievable magnificent quartet makes me so thankful for my hearing. These are some of the finest musicians of all time. We're in the presence of the greatest, and for this, I'm thankful and blessed to be able to appreciate this magical moment in time!

Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass and NHOP are 3 of the absolute GIANTS of jazz and the drummer is no slouch either. It's amazing that the stage could hold that much talent. Unbelievable, fantastic, amazing!!!!

Well Danish Radio ran a series on Great Jazz Personalities a couple of years ago. In the episode on NHOP he said something like life was a constant struggle for perfection. Being Danish, I have seen him on many occasions AND he could smile but not just that sort of personality!

Oscar wrote "On Danish Shore" for Niels - I suspect as much as he loved Ray Brown, who is one of the great bass players of all time, Niels was Oscar's favorite bassist.

Reply to iam4... dunno why he didn't smile that much. maybe because he was focused on playing music and making it swing, like no other bass player before him. (or after) And in the documentary about him, it's menchioned that he had lifed a very hectic life with a lot of smoking, alcohol, and stress. so that is probably why he passed on so early.. :s a shame though. love NHØP he is one of a kind!

My only concern about Niels, is why he never smiled...wondering what his emotional pain was about...and what the mystery of his death was all about...not even the press managed to find out the death cause

He does smile in the documentary, when talking. Simply, when one plays music one is introverted. There is no space for overt smiling.
