Imagine this song back in the day. People with no way to record music and only hearing this after travelling many miles just to hear this. They must have revered these singers as just short of angels. Truly magnificent!

Mozart transcribed Miserere Mei, Deus by memory after only hearing it twice. He then sent his manuscript to an English publisher. At the time, private ownership of that piece was banned by the church. His publication forced the church to lift the ban. Imagine that, though. Only hearing the piece twice, and being able to jot it down perfectly.
Good to see Tenebrae posting again.

A better word: they are gifted by God with vocal perfection, just as Bruckner was gifted by God to compose. Gifts of all kinds, some used, some ignored, some using their gifts yet never thanking God. It is always wonderful to hear the results of these gifts come together in works of art.

This is the most beautiful singing I have ever heard.
That Buildup to the climax and release with the descending Tenors is just so beautiful and heavenly. Adding in the reverb makes divine like feeling the Holy Spirit.
I sang this in music college over 35 years ago. I still remember every note. Towards the end it was so beautiful, I used to imagine the heavens opening up and taking me in forever. Only music like this can do that.
In 1982, my university choir stood in the spot at St. Florian where Bruckner first directed his choir in this work. We then went into the catacombs below the monastery and stood around Bruckner's casket, with all the skulls of priests lining the wall and sang it again. I cried as I listened to this for the first time. Blessings to you all.

We must remember life is hard, as you grow older it's hard. There's no denying this. But we should always remember how beautiful the world can be when we spread joy with one another. It's not that hard to get out of your own cage, so to speak. Dare all of you to make somebody smile today. It's the best anyone can do really, make another person smile...

Como pode uma música ser tão bonita?
Os justi - to śpiew niezwykły, pełny ascetycznego piękna. Z ciemności, powoli i spokojnie wypływa strumień światła, dotyka nas i prowadzi ku Mądrości, której żadne więzy nie mogą skrępować. Os justi - is an unusual singing, full of ascetic beauty. From the darkness, a stream of light slowly and calmly flows out, touches us and leads us to Wisdom, which cannot be bound by any bond.
The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just. "Os justi meditabitur sapientiam, et lingua ejus loquetur judicium."

What an awesome rabbit hole to fall into :) I've been watching these performances for hours now lol
Having spent twenty minutes viewing postings from the USA - all of them bearing witness to the sheer lunacy of the views upheld by a significant proportion of the populace; and having, thereby, become increasingly depressed with the state of mankind, I have accidentally landed on this performance of sheer beauty and perfection; a flickering candle of hope in a mad world which seems to have lost its bearings. Where all that is brash threatens to annihilate the delicate, the fragile and the supremely beautiful. I thank you for this, and all your postings on ‘utube’; which, one might tentatively hope, will bring about a wider appreciation of this genre, and in so doing, enrich the lives of those who are fortunate enough to make the discovery. Long may you prosper in your noble work.
