    I recommend getting cardboard tubes (from paper rolls) that are about an inch in diameter and cut them into rings as a practice rings for engraving. The power will clearly be different, but orientation and technique can be perfected. I am ordering an Ortur rotary since XTool won't send me the cable they omitted when I got my XTool rotary.

    Thanks, that was really handy. I got this tool yesterday (only had my laser a few days, so a total noob) and followed your video step-by-step to do my first cylindrical engraving. It pretty much worked great, thanks to your help here. The things that didn't go to plan were: 1) That backlash command at 10:41 just gave me a "Error:80", so I didn't bother with it. Didn't seem to cause an issue. 2) I had text in my test engraving and it came out mirrored. I've only had my laser a few days and this is the first time I've tried text. 3) The text was oriented sideways, so I will need to turn it 90 degrees before burning.

    Thank you for the video and taking the time to go thru the $22 and $141 codes around the 10 minute mark. I understand the $22 is Homing ON/OFF cmd. You mention the $141 is for backlash, but if I look at the Machine Setting function it shows $141 as the Y driver current amps and shows 5.000. You might mention that the $22 and $141 settings need to be changed to go back to normal use. With that said, I do think you've got the best video around on setting up and using the Chuck Rotary tool. Thank you. Edit: I asked about the $141 cmd on the LightBurn forum and got the answer there seems to be a bug in the system. It should be amps (perhaps better expressed as mA). Seems $161 is the Y axis backlash cmd. Again, THANK YOU for a good video

    @@camilo23ariztizabal I'm not sure why the $141 code gives an error msg. I suspect it's because your sculpfun S30 uses a different cmd for that code. From my understanding the $141 code controls the current limit for the stepper motor. If that's true, I'm not sure what the deal is with changing the value from 600 to 1,000. These days I don't really change that value and my OLM3 seems to work just fine. Have you tried doing an engraving without changing the $141 value? Good luck and let us know how it works.

  • @youmbgtube
    @youmbgtube Жыл бұрын

    About ready to try my rotary chuck. I bought an adapter that holds the laser at 90 degrees so it points to the back of my LM3. This way there is no need to elevate the LM3. With the changes to the GRBL commands I think I read somewhere that a user saves a version with the rotary commands and without them. Do you do this? If so how do you load these GRBL commands into the LM3 (just paste the script into the command line)? Also, found this on the Ortur FB (have you needed to modify this? maybe the rotary chuck is OK): There is a.problem using the YRR Rotary unit with the OLM3 10W Laser. If you haven't discovered this for yourself already, then read on. The OLM3 uses different stepper motors for the X and Y axi from the OLM2 PRO, SF, LF and the Rotary unit. The OLM3 steppers work on 100 steps to the millimetre, while the YRR Rotary unit stepper works on 80 steps to the millimetre. Which means that the Y axis lengths will be increased by about 25% on the Rotary, if you don't adjust the relevant gcode parameter. So shapes that encircle the whole cylinder will overlap by 25%. $101 needs to be changed from 100 to 80 while using the Rotary with the OLM3. ( $101=80 ) And don't forget to set it back to 100 when you go back to standard engraving, or your Y values will be 25% shorter. $20=0, $22=0 and $101=80 for the Rotary. $20=1, $22=1 and $101=100 for Standard engraving. Best to save 2 seperate profiles and then switch between the two.

    I priced a can of the brilliance spray. Wow why so costly? I normally use rustoleum for tile and other materials. Is there something that the brilliance does better ? I only have an Ortur laser master two which is probably only around 5watt output power. I noticed talk about brilliance only fairing well with higher power lasers. Any thoughts? Great information that you provided. My rotary is going to be here this week. Thanks again!

    The brilliance spray is expensive, but a little goes a long way and it's easy to apply, wash off and it's markings tend to be consistent. I've not had much luck with it on a 5w laser, but 10w is enough to fuse it with a dark and crisp marking.

    If you switch back and forth from the rotary to the regular laser a lot, it might be worth setting up a Jig to align the rotary to the frame and then know a specific distance to get you to the center. That should help with alignment each time.

  • @Vintauri

    I don't think there has ever been a white marking spray from Brilliance. You can use it on glass and with lower power it will frost the glass giving it a white appearance, where as with higher power it can fuse the titanium dioxide as well causing the black look.

  • @Vintauri

    @Vintauri

    8 ай бұрын

    @@jimhamilton2680 There is only one kind of brilliance marking spray. It's usually used for leaving back markings on metal, however when used on glass and at a low power it just frosts the glass instead of fusing the titanium dioxide to it to turn it black. It will not leave a white marking on anything. Glass just needs a binder to heat up the glass and cause micro abrasions to cause the frosted effect. You can do the same thing with black paint on glass.
