Orting WA - Old Soldiers-Trails-Volcanos

Orting WA, a town on the prairie, is the Indian meaning. A couple of years ago I made a video about this town and today I'm going back to see what has changed there. Sitting at the confluence of the Puyallup and Carbon Rivers Orting has a special relationship with Mt. Rainier. The increase in their population has driven the need to find an easier way to escape the valley floor in case of a lahar on the mountain. The Bridge for Kids and monthly practice drills are in their plan for a safe future. Come along with us while we drive around the town and see the sights.

I also find them interesting, and informative when researching histories. The one in Orting is filled with stories. I wish I'd been able to know some of those old soldiers. Thanks for watching, Sandy.

Oh my gosh, the view from your house....wow, just beautiful!!! That's a precious town. We would love visiting there. So much history. I was thinking in the Soldier Cemetery if those stones could talk, what stories would be told. This is definitely one of my favorites. Thanks for taking us. 😊👍👍

We had a fantastic view when we lived there. The house sold very quickly because of it. I always think the same thing when I visit the cemetery. There are Medal of Honor holders and I believe there are also men there from the Indian Wars that began in 1848. I'd love to research the military history of them all. Happy you liked it.

It really is a nice place to live. It's far enough away to feel like the country and close enough for shopping and city amenities. Thanks for watching.

Thank you. I've been busy being my husband's carer and it's difficult to get into the swing of making more videos. If things ever calm down I'll be back at it.

Hidey ho, Cheryl. I always go to the cemetery in old towns to discover who lived there 100 years ago. We loved the town, but we found a great place on a lake and decided to move there. Thanks for watching.

PNW Granny While I was driving back east I kept seeing these iron bridges off to the side of the interstates we were traveling. It made me sad because crossing those iron bridges was something I was looking forward to. sometimes progress just makes me angry!😥

I always crossed that old bridge with a sigh of relief. It meant I was home and away from all the stress. We still have a few left around here. I have a whole file of pictures of them before they disappear.

It was a much quieter place when I lived there. We moved away in the early 2000's. I find it interesting to drive there and see all the changes.

Hiyah Granny. What a well thought out video and a beautiful view of Mt. Rainier, especially with all the flowers next to your previous home. You pushed my curiosity button, so I looked up Lahar in Wickpedia as follows: A lahar ( /ˈlɑːhɑːr/, from Javanese: ꦮ꧀ꦭꦲꦂ, translit. wlahar) is a violent type of mudflow or debris flow composed of a slurry of pyroclastic material, rocky debris and water. The material flows down from a volcano, typically along a river valley.[1] What a dangerous situation that would be. Glad they have a warning siren.

The city government has been working hard on the solution to keeping the town safe for many years. They had one scare while we were living there and we found that we were able to make it to the top of the hill in 5 minutes. That was when the population was much smaller and only a fraction of them responded. Fortunately, it was a false alarm and the lahar did not make it to any populated areas. Guess I should have added an explanation of what a lahar is, thanks for doing that for me, Frances.

Once I saw the definition, it was easy to copy and paste. Your video was excellent. Lots of views and interesting. I think you lived in a great town. Laid back and away from the rat race in the big cities. That is my kind of place.

We loved it but also fell in love with the east side of the state. We found a house we loved there and moved when we sold the house in Orting. We are planning a trip over there soon and will be making a video. There are so many great places in this state it's going to take me a long time to show them all, lol.

We haven't live in Orting for several years. We moved shortly after the Safeway store was built. Before that we lived there for 18 years and loved it. After all the new houses it got a little too busy for our liking but we were ready to move on. Not sure which cafe you are referring to. We used to go into the Spar Pole, Los Pino and the Firehouse had great coconut shrimp.
