Thank you Dr. Bateman! I would add that for many people with OI, reclining may only reduce, but not relieve symptoms. Often the Sympathetic Nervous System has already been triggered, and the effects of that may be ongoing even though you lie down.

Thank you, as a 30+years progressive deterioration me/cfs WARRIOR, I have developed more awareness of OI and POTS. I use a 10lb weight bar for minimal repetitions, combine ballet warmup movements. I enjoy wearing leggings that gives me compression. Dtaying hydrated certainly helps and moving legs before getting up from bed definitely helps. Management is my responsibility and your research confirms my efforts to take care of self since I do not have a doctor who does not specialize in ME/CFS. Is there a board certification yet????

I found medical grade 3 compression tights., reasonable water intake (with electrolytes) and the medication propranolol. The propranolol ironically lowers blood pressure, but also slows the heart rate slightly. however the tights and water intake help bring the blood back up to the brain. I get about an hour more sitting or 45 minutes more standing than I could do without that combination. I also found 20 mg of Sildenafil 5 x a day is effective at keeping the face flush and reducing cognitive impairment. Medical grade compression tights are initially hard work to put on and would exhaust me. However I now can get them on quickly with much less effort just by lying on my back on the floor legs up resting on a bed. plus other tricks I soon learnt to get them on easily. Next I'll be buying grade 4. Note never sleep in them though as they can bunch in places and restrict blood circulation

Thank you. I have been reading a lot about OI, experienced a lot and this video has brought me more thorough understanding and hopefully even better management. Especially the info for swimming and the pressure with the depth. I This will give me motivation to get to the pool.

@batemanhornecenter thank you for this information 🙏 I was told that I have OI in 2016 by my neurologist. I really haven't been given any information on how to do my best to treat this condition for optimal health. I need more education on how to prevent flare ups. I'm learning they really sent me out here blind on this.

And to add reclining really has helped me alot. I have an adjustable bed. It's really calmed down my migraines and nausea too!

I wish they would do a video of how to do it. When they take the blood pressure, what position should the arm be in? Horizontal, bent, or straight down?

while standing, arm should be resting on something; slight bend at the elbow.

What is it when if you feel those symptoms when you stand a long time, or overheat. I don’t feel it when I stand up, just after standing for a while. I HAVE to lay down.

My daughter has been dianosed with orthostatic intolerance. She also has epilepsy? Is this a common issue.
