This is where organizations like Reteti Elephant Sanctuary and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanages come in. They literally rescue baby animals and orphans from situations like this. They need these type of organizations throughout Africa imo.

I just want to hug that poor baby

I feel sad for him.

If anyone is wondering why they dont help the animals, its because the cameras are far away or are auto recording so nobody is actually there, and also if they intervene it interrupts the practices of nature.

Especially when elephant numbers are dwindling and there are quite a number of organisations in Africa that have nurseries to care for orphaned calved. But you know the BBC, they would never let that get in the way of a good story.

I've seen the full episode on Belgian television today, and unfortunately little Himba was so weakened due to nothing being fed properly, that he was barely able to stand at the end. The group waited for him to get better and stronger, but it got worse every day ... In the end they HAD to move to find new resources, but little Himba was never seen again...

This has that Land Before Time type of feel LOL

Man kills elephants by the thousands threatening extinction but BBC crew not allowed to help a dying baby because nature must take its course? Humans are compassionate creatures and also part of nature, if there were any around, not these crocodiles from BBC, they would have helped.

This is rather sad, and I'm sure if the camera crew were allowed to help, they would have. But the thing about documenting nature is, no matter what happens, humans are not allowed to intervene. That's one of the hard parts about the job. Other organizations are not able to help either because the baby has not totally been orphaned, it still has a herd to live with. Whether this was filmed or not, nature took its course, and things like this do happen.

+Starro K what about all the other baby calfs, why don't THEY have many sanctuarys like elephants benefit from...compared to elephants , lions are left to very very soon be extincted, nobody seemsto care. ( I try my best in English).....good day

I understand that people are feeling really sad about this baby elephants situation; however if there was no camera filming this, nature would have taken its course as it always does. There may have been other reasons to not assist the baby, and one of them looks like the logistics involved. You have to have transportation, and milk, which has a short shelf life, for the little guy. I'd take bets they discussed the options they had and couldn't find a solution.

there are organizations all over the world that will fly thousands of miles to save an elephant.. Also the age of just filming and not getting involved with elephants passed a long time ago. Now we have to save every one we can.
