As a Cleveland fan, I think this game exposed how bad both teams really need starting pitching. Love the O’s, that was probably our best win/game of the year. Your lineup had my heart racing the whole game.

Tribe fan here; Yes our starting pitching is suspect. We have 1 great pitcher but the rest are struggling. The bullpen is the best in the league. Obviously the closer is on a different level. But we should go after some starting pitching.

This game exposes how spoiled Os fans have been for the past two years, 5 game losing streaks happen even the best teams and we’ve just somehow avoided them for the past 2 years

I predicted a 6 game win streak after this loss in game 2 to Cleveland. After we finish the sweep on Texas today, they got Grayson and Corbin going 1-2 against Seattle on extra rest. Part of me wishes Hyde would use this opportunity to switch them so Grayson can feed off Corbin, see what works for him against a team and use that to his advantage. Sidenote: as it stands right now, Corbin and Grayson would be slotted for games 2 and 3 against NY before the all star break, at home 😊. As long as Hyde doesn’t go 6 man rotation with the return of Kremer we could be set up For a sweep, especially if he uses Irvin to bolster the bullpen and throws Kremer into his slot, but it says he should be back the 2nd which would probably be the 4th with Corbin/Grayson going the 2nd and 3rd after the off day Monday. Suarez is our 3, Povich 4, and we need Cole in the bullpen with Coulombe down and needing more long relievers with the starter injuries. I also have this starting pitching theory. It’s a pitch count driven era right? 90-100 pitchers per outing max usually. You wanna be under 15 pitches per inning as a starter but never over. Say you have 3 starters, real good ones like Philly. Say you have a 4th starter, doesn’t matter how good really, because you have your bullpen. Say your big 3 pitch the same games, together, with a 45-50 pitch count aiming to go 3 innings each. If one goes deeper inside the pitch count it adds wiggle room to the other two. They pitch back to back games so 90-100 pitches in two days. Then the fourth starter pitches day 3 with a bullpen fully available, so their pitch count limit will also be 45-50 pitches with 8-9 relievers available since you’re on a 4 man rotation. After day 3, the big 3 return for back to back days and then another off day on day 7. So they’re throwing 180-200 pitches per week, but broken up with more rest, less elbow stress because they can use all their stuff right out of the gate because a successful outing is one time through the order. The #4 is doing the same in different splits, you could even do a #5 starter with the #4 giving you 90-100 pitches combined, a regular starter with your whole 7-8 man bullpen available. Unless you’d prefer to have a couple long relievers in your bullpen that you could choose based on matchups and what not. You’d have 8-9 relievers on the 4 man, and 6 innings on average to cover once every 3rd day. If your big 3 struggle at all; and all of your bullpen is unavailable, you can run the starters longer and then shorter the next outing with bullpen help allowing them to get that day off first. Wouldn’t this get more longevity out of starters that we are seeing a massive increase of injuries with? Wouldn’t this make a manager more versatile and adaptable with the bullpen options? Couldn’t this lead to less pitchers on the 25 man and more position players on the bench available? Your big 3 could potentially have quick outings, average 30 pitches, 120 per week. Oh, and, YOUD GET YOUR BEST 3 pitchers 4 days a week. Which also sets you up to use them 6/7 games in a 7 game series with off days. 2-off-3-off-2. Every third day is games 1-2-3-4-6-7. If you have two good starters and 3 great relievers you could go that route instead and have 3 starters for the off day games supported with 4-5 relievers. Idk. Seems simple to me. Four days off and then throwing your heart out till you’re exhausted can’t have nothing to do with the injuries. Staying warm and pitching more regularly but less frequency so not till exhaustion, feels like it would be better for injuries and winning percentages for teams. Your big three pitching 2 games of every 3 game series. Thoughts? And this isn’t a bullpen platoon situation, it’s legit starters. So for the Os right now it would be Corbin/grayson/Povich and Suarez/irvin/bullpen on the off day. Corbin/grayson/Povich for 3 innings each, two days in a row, then off day, rinse and repeat.

What I know is we need starting pitching but the worst part is.We leave too many runners on base and we strike out too much with runners and scoring position

Im still mad about getting swept by the cards. Havnt watched since lol. Will watch game 3 vs guards. If ive learned anything in my life. Its to enjoy the O's while we jave a good roster

Suarez's first start was great. Since then he's hurt us. Cole Irvin walking onto the mound makes me eyeroll and go "here we go". We need an arm BADLY to complement Burnes and G-Rod.

I was there. Cleveland hit lots of line drives in the gaps.

I'd love to know whose decision it was to pitch to Ramirez in the 4th inning last night. He's absolutely been crushing the ball like a man possessed in this series and 1B was open. Irvin like Suarez has been trash in his 2-3 starts, throwing way too many belt-high off-speed pitches. The pitching overall other than Monday night has been horrible during this losing streak so Drew French needs to do something. Also I wouldn't say the offense is back after last night. Logan Allen was just dreadful and it was obvious that he didn't read the scouting reports, throwing a FB to Cowser in the 4th. They only scored 2 runs off their great but overused/overworked bullpen over 6 innings.

That was certainly the dumbest decision in this one. I was watching the Cleveland feed and they could not believe we were pitching to him and had a good chuckle when he hit the homer.

You know who made the call to pitch to there hitter .Hyde of course did it twice so far in this series with two on and first base open . I can't understand why he did it . Not the right move for sure.

But we left 11 runners on base throughout the game.We're not knocking in runs Would I get in here when we need them

I know Mike Elias will wait until the deadline to make the moves, but it would sure be nice to add an arm now. I just hope the offense can carry the team until then. This does put quite a bit of pressure on Grayson and Corbin to be at their best in their starts.

@@JusSomeGuyOnInternet As, White Sox and Marlins are sellers. O's need to make "baseball moves", not necessarily deadline moves for rentals. I know such moves are more often made in the off-season. But O's have obvious needs for pitching right now and more prospects in the system than any other team in MLB. I'm sure they will have to overpay but so what? Not all prospects will make it to the big league and the goal is to win the WS, NOT the AAA championships. As these prospects get older, they become less valuable to other teams. Kjerstad is 25 and Stowers is 26, they are more valuable to teams like As, White Sox and Marlins than they are with O's because they will be everyday players with those teams.

We need two big arms I would sign one immediately and then one at the deadline They’ll probably bring up McDermott at some point soon just to see what he can do

But you have to find someone willing to sell. I think you wouldn’t find many just yet. And the teams that would, you might not like what they have. It takes two teams to trade.

I like Austin Has but he looks lost. Offensive and defensivately. He hast struck out three time with one out and men on third. With men on third he needs to make contact. Yesterday again he struck out with men on second. He needs to make contact to advance the runner.

@@randallpoe5135 with Tony smashing, the milk man doing his thing, Heston off to a hot start since being recalled and Stowers looking good when given the opportunity it's hard to imagine that either Hays or Mullins won't be moved sooner rather than later .... hate to say it but I'd rather see Hays moved as Ced's speed off the bench to pitch run late in games could really hold value and having him in defensively without having to bat is a great strategy

Right now I think I'd be more confident with Kyle Bradish on the mound tomorrow just a week after Tommy John than I am with any of our pitchers not named Corbin Burnes. Having Danny Coulombe on the long term IL turns a rather scary bullpen into absolutely child's play. IDK, with just a couple of pitching injuries it seems like the O's have gone from a "crap there is not way we can beat them" kinda team to a "holy hell this team is an absolute joke" kinda team. With a completely healthy pitching staff I honestly believe the O's are an all time great team but unfortunately we are not healthy and this leads to the question of do we hunt pitching at the deadline ... it's a rather bizarre scenario

@@shore-cityfilms the new ownership immediately went out and got Burnes so I would imagine if Burnes leaves they would immediately go out and get another ace. If our pitchers could actually stay healthy I'm fairly confident in our pitching. Having a healthy Bradish, Kremer, Means and Wells takes a lot of pressure off the other guys, not to mention having Coulombe in the pen for high leverage situations and Bautista to close; that's a totally different team then what we are painfully watching now

Disagree on the McCann throw, it was a bad through that tailed back into the runner, a good through has him easily. He is also the slowest human alive. Still stick to my point that he should not have played on Monday since he was likely going to play today unless Adley has some kind of issue.

Trading deadline is a month away. There are only about 4 teams that are definitely not going to the playoffs. You have to have someone to trade with. And no one is going to trade until they get a better idea of their playoff chances. Nothing is happening for another month.

Irvin has been great most of the year. And there isn’t anyone to trade with yet. I hate it when people say we need to get someone or get rid of someone, but have no idea who is available. Lay out your plan.

So the concept of allowing pampered starting pitchers to only pitch five innings to prevent injury has been proven to be BS. This team has one failure in its make up. They are chokers.
