Nice conversation. As an 'interested lay person' who reads academic works on the Bible (including your own) I never realized 'titles' might be problematic or outdated scholastically. They're certainly of interest to me both in what they might have meant to the original audiences in the Second Temple period as well as to us so-called moderns. Andrei Orlov continues to mine gold from the meanings of Biblical symbolism hinting at the very least that we have a lot to learn and comprehend from ancient minds that remain, as far as I'm concerned, far more spiritually advanced and evolved than our materialistic and reductionist outlooks.

Hi dr. Mike Bird, how are you? Recently, i was reading Bart Ehrmam's blog and came across the thesis that Paul saw Christ as a pre-existing angel who was ultra-exalted after the Resurrection, but not as an eternal God. Is Ehrman's thinking the thinking of most academics? How many scholars defend the thesis that Paul saw Jesus as an angel, considering the Pauline corpus as a whole (not just the text of Philippians)? It is a majority?
