In the U.S., I've never seen the original figure with alternate head in its own package. Here, the new vintage style heads come as an extra in the battle armor versions.

My experience of the open mouth Skeletor wasn't what I was expecting. I really didn't like the look of it in photos, or in videos online. I had resigned myself to just not liking it, but once I had the figure in hand I found that in person the open mouth totally worked for me.

Agreed, there's a certain "Nyah He-man!" charm to the wave 1 head that I really enjoy. I'll still get the new one for the sword, and hood that matches the rest of the fig, but I'll swap between the two heads.

These head sculpts are enough of an improvement that I would actually grab one if I saw one in the wild. Nice to see Mattel making a timely correction! That original head sculpt (well both of them, really) were a tad lousy.

it's cool to see the difference between the original and the new figures is what you can do a restoration video of the original Beastmen figure because i have one and no one is making a video for how to restore it and find the things that are missing but otherwise continue the videos because it is very good and interesting.

I think your review was one of the things that finally made me start buying these figures.

And here I went and hunted down the Deluxe figures just for the classic looking heads. lol Now I have to hunt that one down just for the sword. *sigh*

Nice to see they've fixed the swords, though I prefer the Wave 1 He-Man head sculpt. The lack of English text in the mini-comics is ridiculous. All of Europe, practically, speaks English. It's not a problem.

Fun Fact: The vintage style Origins He-Man head was first released in a 2-pack to promote the reveal of Origins in 2019. The head along with the semi-vintage style Skeletor head would see release in the Origins Battle Armor figures before they would be released in these updated figures.

I really like the Wave 1 versions. I think Skeletor has a ton of character and I kind of prefer the look of He-Man, but I don't have attachment to the original toys. That's probably a big factor to my preference.

I guess so and i feel the same. Back in the 80s, i can remember i got He-Man for Christmas but that was the only Masters Figure i ever had back then and i think i didnt even have him for very long. So yeah, not much attachment to the vintage one but then again its nice to have the old headsculpt aswell. I think i will get Wave 5 He-Man plus the Rise of Evil Pack (i like the Skeletor Head in that one better) as soon as i get my hands on it here in germany.

Rise of evil 2pack from target stores has a nice vintage looking head for skeletor. Great review!

I love the idea of having two versions, but I would FAR prefer that they sell the heads separately, so whichever you end up with, you can swap out without having to store a whole other figure, to say nothing of cost. Same goes for the swords, really. Great video, thanks Dave!

I definitely prefer the vintage style head of He-Man, but not really a fan of Skeletors little smile on this new one. You can take the wave 1 head and heat it up to close the mouth more and I think it gives you a better look 👍

They really should have included both the whole sword and the half sword for the play value for kids and nostalgia value for collectors. Its amazing how they will skimp on probably .001 cents worth of plastic. I mean they are already making extra by re-releasing basically the same figure.

I agree. A slight repaint of Skeletor's head is needed. That is an easy fix. Another great vid!

it is so awesome mattel did that I think the heads were keeping a lot of us from buying them but now... seeing the matte paint and the swords those look fantastic, They really went all out to appeal to the fans and get high marks from for doing so.

I love the heads. Basically the ones we got with the Battle Armour figures. Very nice!

I just recently got the Castle Grey skull from the origins collection. I absolutely love it, it’s a great update. Would love if you got a chance to review it.

I'm glad they fixed his head and re-released the figure with those retooled improvements. Definitely will pick one up now.

In my opinion it really comes down to personal preference. It's like the Panthor debate, I think it's good we have different versions to choose from, just a bummer on how they're getting them out to people. Definitely going to be on the lookout for these. Also I 100% agree with you Dave, a little paint goes a long way with a lot of these figures. Will look into getting some paint on Skeletor's face when I find him.

I actually like the Wave 1 Skeletor better. The open mouth gives him more character imho. The new (old-face) He-Man on the other hand is a must-buy for me!

The sword never had tht guard in the cartoon im glad they made it screen represented

They basically fixed the only issue I had with the series so far. I can't complain too much about buying them both twice. Something for my desk at work instead of in my display I guess.

I agree. I can do the new Skeletor head, but the He-Man head was atrocious. I didn't buy one because of that. I may have to keep an eye out for them now.

Awesome video, my friend! These look soooo much better, in my opinion. And, in all honesty, how they should've looked to begin with. Having the older looking sculpts adds so much more to these figures.

I just glued He-man and Skeletor’s swords together, then spray painted them. It feels weird having Skeletor with the powersword anyway 😅

Repainting the Origins is a terrific idea. I'd love to see that. I've already tried to give Tri-Klops a wash with a black colour, but I might need more practice (now he looks a little muddy).

Great review Dave, I’ve literally just started picking up motu origins because they brought out the vintage heads, it’s the one thing that was stopping me, looking forward to the skeletor repaint if you do one 👍

Also on the cardback, at least here in the US if you notice they did update the cell artwork for Skeletor's head and it now matches the vintage. Cheers and great review 👍

The combined Power Sword was introduced as a running change with the Sky Sled Adam as the first run had a smaller handle. I'm so glad that there's gonna be uniformity the all the variations of the Power Sword going forward.

Love the He- man sculpt. Wish they'd stop giving Skeletor the grin on one side of his face. They need to make him angry.

Oh, was wondering what that whole Barbarossa custom head thing was about Ie. only having either a wave-1 or wave-5 version. It's a tricky matter since modern action figures can have multiple heads but the old style didn't, as well as being a price point issue. Guess Mattel isn't interested in selling Head-Packs so these custom makers will always be busy. ;)

I do like the original Alcala he man head and I already got a alternate head with the deluxe battle armor he-man.......BUT this is a great excuse to get these figures so i can use the other's bodies and parts for some custom ideas I have banging around in my head. :)

Got these a couple of weeks ago, they are a vast improvement with those vintage style head sculpts.

I absolutely agree with Dave, He-man a big improvement! Skeletor still needs work, and thanks for the review Dave, cheers!

@4:10 I always thought the original He-Man toy looked a little Eurasian to me so they got it right on the money. No body has ever made the figures face looked exactly like the cartoon. But I guess for MOTU the cartoon was always based off the toy and not the other way around like most figures back then.

I completely agree on the heads. This is the same complaint I had when the 25th anniversary figures of GI Joe were released. Hasbro should have used heads based on the originals. But I disagree about the comics. The stories aren't exactly what I would call... well written. Stan Lee, the one who writes them is not! 😂 Without text, one can easily imagine much better plots and dialogs.

I've still only got the new head versions from Origins, but I definitely want these too.

I actually have a copy of the 80's He-Man and I seem to like the new head.

I sold all my Origins figures, but I'll probably pick these two up. I thought the new heads were a mistake from the beginning.

Mattel: how to sell more toys? Change only the head of and let's sell the same toy only with a different head :STONKS....

I do like the wave 1 he man face better but the full sword is a most welcome change.

I'm one of the few people that prefer the Wave 1 head. While I do like the vintage head,the wave 1 head's just seem more expressive to me.

It's funny how the the facial look of faker looks more accurate to the vintage than the origins he Man

If only they made King D Vann greyskull in this retro style and probably others like He man version from the new adventures, I like the new head sculpts but its rad they made the original classic head sculpt version, I got Skeletor, Heman and finding Heman was tough where im from so getting this versions probably would be impossible I really like them since I had some of the toys as a kid and now as an adult its nice to own them again for nostalgic reasons.

Did you see that Mattel has released a Battle Armor He-man and Skeletor? There is also a 2-pack with Keldor that has an additional swappable Skeletor head.

Great review and a definite improvement on He-Man's face scultp. Skeletor's is definitely a lot softer and uninteresting, pity.

Have you seen the head for the Keldor Kronis two pack? It is really nice.

These are definitely an improvement on the Wave 1 figures, but why couldn't Mattel sell the new/old head sculpt and new/old sword in a new accessory pack, to compliment the Wave 1 figures?

It's just easier this way. They can use all their usual machines for the figures and packaging, except for exchanging the head and sword moulds of course. That also keeps the price low.

I think the battle armor he man and skeletor gives you two sets of heads and the originals are included.. so you can save yourself buying another set of figures.. just get the battle armor ones and put those heads on your original origins figures .. but great video as always dave...

Oh Dave, I thank you for this vlog. Here I was pondering on whether I should buy the Origins versions of He Man & Skeletor & then I could order custom heads to replace the hideous new faces that they gave these two. You my friend, came and saved me a headache of buying custom heads by showing this video. Thank you! I'm going to check these ones out.

Use a blow drying on the skeletor head to close his mouth and you'll have the best looking skeletor.

To be honest the retro head doesn't look anything like the original one from the 80s. All I see is some chinese dude wearing a he-man wig.

Wonder if they'll do a new version of Prince Adam, too...

Skeletons head still sucks, and I would’ve liked if they kept the combined swords, but just fixed the orientation.

Yeah really could not bring myself to buy Skeletor, the head is so badly done. He-Man is fantastic, the more I play around with him the more I wanna just buy another to keep on card!

@@knuthamsun6106 The Super7 he-man head is horrible, imo. Too shiny like he's covered in crisco and looks nothing like vintage or the toon. And their legs broke off. I do like the Skeletor head from Super7 tho. Thinking about getting one just to put on Origins body. And the added articulation for Origins is great for complex posing. These are fun to customize. Best head for Origins Skeletor so far has been the Rise of Evil version from Target.

I prefer the wave one 🤣 This He-man sculpt look kinda odd for me cause of the prominent jaw that looks simian. But I may agree that for the hair it’s a bit better

Can't believe they messed up the skeletor head twice. I repainted my origins skeletor the worst thing about it was the teeth. I scraped off the original teeth and and repainted them with 3 broad lines like the vintage. You also need to add the purple under the cheek bones.

The re-issue He-Man seems to be missing a bit of cheek and jaw muscles there, but it does look much, much better than the older Origins version. I don't mind the new Skeletor head. I would want his to look closer to the cartoon Skeletor rather than the original figure, but I would be happy with the newer one, I think. Maybe it could be improved with a bit of an over paint.

Still think the customs made with heads and weapons from classics figures look best.

I dunno I kind of like the jovial Skeletor head. :D

Simple things that would go really well. Mattel put moving jaws on some of the toys in the Origins line and the brother line of Masters of the WWE Universe. Why not make the open mouth Skelly head with a moving jaw so you could open or close it? Gripping hands, why not put gripping style hands on the left and the right? The spread hand only worked(barely) with the old shields. You could make the new shield work with a grip hand. The shield could go left or right. Add a hook or clip to the shield that allows you to put it on their armor on their back. Then they can hold whatever combination of weapons/accessories they want to hold. I'd love to see He-Man with the boot dagger set up from the Power Lords set make it into the regular assortment of figures at retail. Even if it's in another color scheme. And make some thin flat plates with a bit of texture on them that can click into the half swords. That way when you don't have them clicked together you can cover up the open side. Better yet, make the swords flat with magnets cast into the middle of the sword so that the flats always stick together "magically". These are the ideas I wish Mattel would realize would make things better. Oh well, I guess I start making customs to cover my wishes on this set too.

I have the battle armor He-man with the new head sculpt, I don't need another figure just for the head,I will miss the complete sword though, and I prefer the first head sculpt for skeletor, I don't like the new one, the vintage head is still the winner.

I was initially ok with the Origins head, but when I got BA He-Man and I put the vintage style head on regular He-Man and plonked him on top of Battlecat...it _clicked._ Like this is how it's supposed to be. Now I'm thinking about trading my wave 1 He-Man and Skeletor for these, and while He-Man's practically a no-brainer - I still got Adam if I want to use the new style head still - Skeletor I have lukewarm feelings about. I don't really like that weird side smile he's got going on, and actually prefer the frowny face on BA Skeletor - but I also prefer the eyes on the Origins style head.

Excellent review. Now call me cynical, but I can't help but think that this was a calculated ploy from Mattel. Issue wave 1 with the dodgy heads and swords knowing that people are going to snap them up anyway, and then reissue them with better heads and swords knowing that the people who bought the first version will want to upgrade.

I agree that a better paint app would help, though. I feel the original was far less pronounced from the hood. Why not just copy it almost exactly like they did with He-man? The world may never know…🤷‍♂️

I heard that Mattel tweaked the peg thicknesses of the removable limbs, and they are no longer interchangeable with earlier waves. True?

yeah I think the sculpt is there on skeletors' head but paint mask they used is wrong if paint was closer to first wave it would 100% better if do repaint it please make video on your re paint I think alot people would to see that.

If you are in the UK. Smyth's have the Faker wave (selling fast) and Amazon UK starting to get it. Smyth's have even started advertising the Stinkor wave as coming soon.

Don't get me wrong, the original is the gold standard. I don't normally like variations but I kind of dig this one for a little variety. Makes him look a little bit more aggressive and action-oriented instead of just the docile smiling skull look. However, I definitely did not like the new He-Man face sculpt at all and I am glad that they made it look more like the original.

I love the wave 1 Sculpts personally. However those swords are a huge draw, Im sure I'm not the only one excited about that, thanks for the heads up Mr Toy Polloi. The battle armour versions also come packaged with alt heads that I feel serve as great replacements for the wave 1 heads if someone would prefer to not buy the same toy again.

I haven't seen them around here....still too many from wave one maybe?

But does it come with the super punch ?

I didn't like the neon colors on some of them. And Man-at-arms head looked squished and not right
