I've been looking for this commercial for ages, I'm the one with curly hair. So very sorry to hear that the gorgeous Aimee is no longer with us. We always had such fun whenever we worked for Levi's, especially on this commercial which was the first time either of us had been to LA. Thank you Roger Manton for posting

Im calling it too. The fashion is WRONG for 76. Straight legs not flares ir bell bottoms, short shoulder length curly hair? Not middle back and poker straight? The makeup is cleaner 80s style as well. Im guessing 82.

@@marklaechel4537 I did some digging and it says Adrian Lyne directed. Right before "Foxes". That said I know Adrian (like Fincher) was a vanguard of what *was to come* in the 80s. Fatal Attraction, 9 1/2 weeks, Jacob's Ladder. I just watched a clip from 9 1/2 Weeks and Mickey Rourkes fashions look incredibly current. The movie was filmed in 82/83 and could drop Rourkes character in Manhattan on Monday and he wouldnt look out of place. I think it might be that Lyne was really really good at creating a timeless feel.

@@SJ-nh1kj Wow. Well being the epicenter for fashion in the US, perhaps you guys were ahead of your time...your hair was early 80s, clothes, and makeup. Also the direction looked like a 501 Levis Jeans ad from the 80s, so the director was really ahead of his time. I mean really, ads in the 80s and 90s used this as a template......thanks for replying SJ!

Directed non other than by Adrian Lyne who went on to direct "Flash Dance" "9 1/2 Weeks" " and "Fatal Attraction" to name a few. You can see his preferred look in this promo commercial. Lots of cool half de-saturated colours, mist filters, grainy high speed film and atmosphere, lots of it. Usually a hazer would be used on interiors to give a scene misty smoky "heavy atmosphere" Ridley Scott also did this technique a lot back in his earlier films.

I have seen enough live feed runway shows to know they generally have very good skin. I know for a fact that these hairstyles are 100% mid 70's. As is the clothing. The 1980's had very different styles. Hair was either sleek, or else more poofy, like Dynasty. The jeans would be very skinny on the bottom. Absolutely everything about this add is 100% 1970's.

hi i was really great friends with her - her films now have cult status. Been thinking about her alot lately as i am coming up to 60 this year. She was 2 years older. I put it out there to search for this commercial and a guy in New Zealand posted it. Sad that the best ones go too soon.

Did you know she appeared on the cover of Roxy Music Flesh and Blood? This is one of my all time favourite albums and the two girls on the cover always intrigued me. Heres the song with the album cover with Aimee. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nIGm25ORoJurc84.html

Yes i have to say that this doesn't look like it was shot in 1976! Flares were still in around then because punk hadn't yet broke big enough to get everybody wearing straight leg jeans again, so i'm afraid the year stated doesn't compute with how it looks!!

It does. This looks exactly like the mid 70's. Look at Charlie's Angel episodes, and you will see the same styles. This was made in 1976, and looks it. By the early 80's ALL JEANS WERE TAPERED ON THE BOTTOM, NOT FLARED, and jackets and tops were more oversized.

@@mariasmith2198 Hate to tell ya but I gotta agree the girls hair styles and clothes do look a lot like 1980. Notice I didn't say 1985 or 89, I said 80. When people think of the 70's they always think 1973 and late hippy clothes and hair styles. When people say 80's its always Big Hair and clothes like on bad 80's TV shows. Styles have a way of overlapping and lots of young women and girls were wearing styles like that in the early 80's, at least in the Midwest. I know, I was a young guy and I was noticing! :)

I want to know more about the shoot and screenplay and D.O.P. So this was shot on video, circa 1976-1977, but wasn't released in some regions till the early 1980's ? The two actresses look so hot in their Levi's (what babes !). Interesting the 'booty' shot's, and cowboy 1 (geargrinder) is touching her butt, helping her into the cab. You wouldn't get that now days, P.C. correctness gone mad !. What is Cowboy 2 (wearing all Levi's ie: jacket & jeans) and the babes aren't wearing Levis ?.... so as not to distract ?. What is Cowboy 2 saying when he comes to sit and wait for the bus ?. Who did the cover of 'Route 66' ?. ...So may questions, so little time.

This was shot in 1976. And was released that year. The styles changed by the time early 80's were around, everyone wore their jeans tapered, not flared like you see here.

All the clothes are Levi’s because they gave us loads of stuff to ‘wear in’ before the shoot. I rather enjoyed being helped into the cab 😜 by JJ Fowler. He can also be seen early on in Smokey and the Bandit. The cowboy who sat next to us was called RL but I’m afraid I can’t remember what he said when he came and sat down with us. The band is Clover fronted by Huey Lewis and the band scenes were shot in London at the Nashville in North End Road as Clover were touring during the time of the shoot. Aimee, the blonde girl has sadly passed. I’m Susie, the other one. Hope this answers your questions x

@@SJ-nh1kj Wow!!! I can't believe no one followed up to your comment. From someone who never saw this before (b 1980), I was slightly confused although thoroughly entertained by the shortened commercial.... Probably bc they cut out the full bus scene. Sorry... I know it's not really about the story but tell me if I'm correct in the storytelling... Two (gorgeous) ladies get stranded on route 66. They flag down and hitchhike onto the big rig. Stop to change their clothes... But I don't understand what the police chase was about (can you... Or someone) tell me? I understand the police later giving directions. Then they follow the cowboy to the concert and phone their friends and invite them to the concert and eventually get backstage? Am I on the right path there? BTW so cool you are in one of the most iconic commercials ever. We're you a model?

@@LazySusan. I think the police car chase was just for visual effect really cause they do look pretty cool don’t you think. Aimee and I were both models, sadly she has now passed away. We had so much fun on this shoot, we were both about 19 and it was such an adventure
