    "primitive |ˌprɪmɪtɪv| adjective - relating to, denoting, or preserving the character of an early stage in the evolutionary or historical development of something - of or denoting a simple, direct style of art that deliberately rejects sophisticated artistic techniques" "Primitive" is an adjective, not a judgement.

    Anyways that really is cool to see that the old way of doing pottery is still used today. About the wheels construction, its probably an axle coming up from the ground and the stone is configured to conform to its shape, then add grease.

    I enjoyed the video. I am enchanted by the potter's wheel. Making pottery on my kick wheel is a ancient method and connects me to the past as well as the earth. It is rewarding to drink out of a wheel thrown mug. thank you for the video.

    If you call someone primitive, it's an insult. If you call something like doing pottery on a stone primitive, it's just an observation.

    Fucking relax ppl, as if the word primitive necessarily carries a negative connotation. That’s your own damn bias. Beautiful work this guy does thanks for sharing

    This is not Primitive pottery but GREEN pottery, very modern, does not consume much energy (just a little bit of beans), it does not pollute, does high quality handmade products in a short time, as opposed to the modern masters. I prefer this antiquated technology to the modern, which is ruining us in no time

    It's still primitive, but primitive is not synonymous with inferior or simple. It just means low-technology, and this wheel is undeniably lower technology than an electric pottery wheel. Again, this shouldn't imply this wheel is not an effective tool.

    Actually the way it was wobbling at first I would guess this does not have an axle, just a very large stone with enough weight that when it gets going in the round it may not need the axle.

    @johnlopez123 An axle stuck in the ground may be ingenious, but it's hardly "advanced."

    @shas1814 - with apologies. English is not my mother-tongue. And in my language primitive is meant in a very negative way.

    Well this might be primitive for you and people belonging to your culture who have no history of your own, leave traditions , but for a civilization as old as ours this simple wheel technique is still in use profusely in urban and rural.Whether your family lives in forests or mountains has got nothing to do with this "morbid" choice of the word -Primitive.

    It's pointless to argue with people too closed-minded to open a dictionary. A thing can be in common use and still be primitive.

  • @ShasCho
    @ShasCho12 жыл бұрын

    @shanna1950 I accept your apology, but is it wise to attempt to criticise the use of words in a language you do not speak well? I don't think so.

  • @ShasCho
    @ShasCho12 жыл бұрын

    @shanna1950 Well, YOU are certainly being judgmental. Try using a dictionary. "Primitive" means earlier in the development of something. This is a primitive pottery wheel, whether you like that word or not. My family lives a primitive sort of life in the mountains of western Canada. We like it that way. But we do have good educations and we know how to use a dictionary.

    @shas1814 - I TRY to speak and learn other languages, do you? Apart from English I also learnt German, Portuguese and French. Making mistakes is part of the learning. In this case I apologized. Is that okay with you, or do you need another apology? No problem.

  • @shanna1950-2812

    @shas1814 - it IS meant judgmental. That's typical of Westerners. Looking down on others always.

    why primitive is racist and colonial: Terms like 'stone age' and 'primitive' have been used to describe tribal people since the colonial era, reinforcing the idea that they have not changed over time and that they are backward. This idea is both incorrect and very dangerous. It is incorrect because all societies adapt and change, and it is dangerous because it is often used to justify the persecution or forced 'development' of tribal peoples. The results are almost always catastrophic: poverty, alcoholism, prostitution, disease and death. www.antropologi.info/blog/anthropology/2007/anthropologists_condemn_the_use_of_terms
