Original Dungeons & Dragons (OD&D) Campaign - Episode 2 (solo dnd)

Ойындар

A solo DnD campaign for original Dungeons & Dragons (OD&D). In this campaign I will be playing DnD solo. I’ve been playing solo D&D for a while now using my own solo rpg ruleset. In this campaign I will be using my ruleset to play ODnD (Original Dungeons & Dragons) first published in 1974. Playing D&D solo is a great way to experience an immersive DnD campaign. I think Dungeons & Dragons solo works really well as an actual play concept and is much more concise and entertaining played solitary.

    Pretty cool. I am a Traveller life long gamer. I love that system but have become a fan of OD&D in the retro Seattle Games Whitebox Edition. Old school is by far the best..

    Trying to catch up on this amazing series. This is inspirational. Sadly, I have never played a game or rolled a die in a game of DND or any other TTRPG. I always wanted to. Just learning I can play solo is amazing!!! Just don’t know where to start or what rules to use. Hopefully I figure it out soon. Thanks for the content!!

    Love these videos.. .. I have always wanted to play since the 80s but it was always a boys only club. And so never got the chance and friends who would play. I love listening you have a great reading voice! And I feel as if I am in the game. Almost. I wish they were longer to listen to. 🎧

    Hi Zinnia. So sorry that you never got a chance to play. Thanks for listening :) I’m sorry that the videos are shorter than you would like. I’m still trying to get the right balance between length and how long it takes to make a video.

    @@SoloDungeonCrawler thanks for replying! I am looking forward for more. I love listening and you get right down to the story line. There’s no chitchat and interruptions when that happens watching a group playing together on a video. It’s hard to follow . It is fun to watch but sometimes you just want to get into the story mode. Well done. Lol in school the girls were taught to sew dresses and the boys got to play d&d. how unfair is that. I failed sewing hahahaha 😂😂😂😜

    Excellent series, and overall excellent content throughout this channel. I’ve been playing OD&D since about 2016, but due to lack of interested players there have been long gaps in play. Have tried the solo-thing, but not done nearly as well as how you present it. Thanks for the ideas which I am now using in my own solo game! Two possible mistakes I spotted - the dwarf and halfling character sheets don’t list their respective languages as known languages. Either they don’t have their own language in your world, or maybe this was an oversight?

    I don’t know where to start. The world building is really inspiring! I’m curious about how much is generated and how much is by your design? Either way it’s fantastic. I also love how grim and unforgiving the tone is. ‘If the man died for this, it was hardly worth it.’ So good!

  • @SoloDungeonCrawler

    Believe it or not everything is generated at random. I've written a lot of rules! I just interpret the results of my rolls and that's pretty much it.

    This is amazing. how does a single pack of rations have a 90% chance to distract an entire swarm of locusts compared to the all sweaty meat running away? 😁 looking forward to new installments of this. Hopefully you can get a new mic soon!

    Thank you. In the OD&D rules it specifically states that non-intelligent creatures have a 90% chance of stopping if food is dropped by an evading party. This experiment is to stick strictly to these rules to showcase how the original game was meant to be played. Regarding my mic :D it's not as bad as you might think. I've intentionally tried to make the sound mimic 1960's radio broadcasts with inspiration from tape cassette audio books too because I wanted to capture the nostalgia, although I'm thinking about pulling this back a bit because I don't think it's obvious enough and potentially off putting. Having said that I would like a better mic one day as well.

    I'm actually going to answer this question in a later episode, but basically I generate absolutely everything using my own rules. I've covered the basics on my blog and a video series on here called 'How to Play Dungeons & Dragons Solo', but these rules have been quite widely expanded since I first developed them. I've brought everything into a single document which I tweak and expand as I progress through my solo campaigns. I plan to release this rule book in some form in the future once its reached a stage I am happy with. I want to follow this up then with a future video series to talk people through the whole ruleset.

    Is this typically how a normal multiplayer original dungeons and dragons game will go? So far, it feels very much more in line with a text based adventure or point and click game more than jrpg games or rpg video games

  • @SoloDungeonCrawler

    @SoloDungeonCrawler

    My goal with this series is to present an OD&D game that closely resembles a group game played in the mid 70's. I suppose it would make sense that it resembles a text adventure over a more modern rpg video game as the earliest text adventures where inspired by OD&D.
