original 1968 LO23 Hemi Dart
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Me drag racing my original factory lightweight LO23 Hurst Hemi Dart at Thunder Valley Dragways in Marion, South Dakota on Aug 11, 2019. This is the "Dick Smith Dart", also previously owned and raced by Jim Keyes. I ran a 9.17 at 146+ mph on this pass. Only have about 15 passes on the car so far. Still getting the engine/trans/suspension dialed in and broken in. I expect consistent 8.80-8.90's at 150 mph when we have everything figured out.
When I say "original", I am referring to the fact that this car is indeed one of approximately 80 original 1968 Hurst Hemi Darts, it is NOT a clone! It is obviously not "all original" as in "bone stock", since I pulled the original Super Stock 426 hemi for safekeeping, and am running an all-aluminum 604 cubic inch hemi engine. I believe this run was a 9.24 at 146-147 mph. Still breaking in the engine and dialing in the chassis. This car should run 8.80s at 150+ mph when it is fully sorted.

Great to be onboard a LO23. If You have more videos of the car please post them :-)

There's another video of it eating a mid 60's Fastback as well.
Nice video. Love that built Hemi sound. Also noticed your interior still looks prestine.

Just awesome!!! Thanks for the ride in the best car ever made. You lucky SOB.... In a cool way my friend
What a beautiful sound.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thank you.
Nice. Love to hear those big cubes wind up tight.
Love that distinctive lope! But, they were so expensive to work on! Makes me recall an old rhyme of ours, ' my rods are stretched and my mains turned blue, Lord what I would give for a 392'!
Imagine takin it to the grocery store. You'll come home with milkshakes and scrambled eggs.
That's my dream car...So badass
It loads the right rear so hard he's 20° to the left full track. The forces involved are crazy, for the time, in a dealer car...

It was a factory drag car, but that 604 Hemi is a little more than the stock 426
Wowzer, beautiful!
Love this pass!
Lovely sound
Awesome bro👍🏼
Wicked fast
Absolutely Impressive!!! Man would I love to do a ride along ina real Hurst Hemi Super Stock Dart !!!
When I saw this car leave the line I "Jizzed in my pantz!"🎶🎵
Awesome!
Pulled on that Mustang like it was parked.
such a cool car! What was going on at end of track? Run out of gear? How many RPM? What transmission?

Car was running too lean, I’m afraid. I had just taken off the screens on the cross ram carbs and didn’t realize how much air they were actually restricting

Hell yes I love it
This may be an obvious question but is there a real reason the steering is so loose? or are all 70's muscle cars like that?
This makes you feel sorry for the guy in the other lane. 😂👍
wow, need to crank up the RPMS for real HP, but do not show chevy goes, they will cry

smilsmff this engine is a 604 stroker Hemi, built for easy power st low rpm and durability. Not your typical high-rpm Hemi screamer. Max power at @ 7000 rpm.
What ET/speed do you run?
That’s an amazing car. Steering seems hella loose?

Had a 69 Hemi Roadrunner back in the 80s, had a quarter turn of Freeplay in the wheel made for some exiting racing...😁

My 67 Sport Special had a bit of slop in the steering as well. Was in for a surprise when I got a 77 Arrow, that rack and pinion was so tight in comparison.
That guy was hangin on for his life trying to keep it straight lol. Quarter mile explosion...coulda used a parachute at the end there...
Stupid question but is this car stock?

It's not stupid. But of course it's not stock!

is it 100% stock? no. The stock one would only do 10's from the factory.
What was that red button you were pushing onto?

You see the steering wheel snap back , no power steering here.
i like to see the car
What was the red button you were pushing before start?

The transmission brake (transbrake) which freezes the transmission from movement and signals my two-step rev control so when I floor it, the engine revs up to a predetermined rpm, and when I let go… look out!

Did it come with a factory cigar lighter? That's a necessity in those old MOPAR drag cars you know. 👍
