A superb idea! That would end up dabbling into the seventh or eighth tiers of German football. They are often called "Bezirksliga" and you have to play teams from towns near your own town.

Albeit the third devision is not run by the DFL but by the DFB and is therefore no "Bundesliga", but - plain and simple - the third "Liga" (=Division)...

I love when you try to pronunce all the clubs. You are doing a great job, but it still sounds funny because I'm from Germany.

You could have mentioned that Saarbrücken reached the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal this season and they are the first 4th tier side to do so.

I've actually seen Saarbrucken play against their local rivals, Eintracht Trier. Shame Trier are in the fifth (?) tier, or they could play against Kaiserslautern sometime in the 4th tier. Lower league German football is passionate and loud.

Hey Alfie, I just thought of a cracking idea for a video you could do on the turbulent recent history of Goztepe in the Super Lig. They’re one of the Super Lig’s most well supported clubs (a bit like a Newcastle United, Sunderland or Strasbourg if you may). In the 2001/02 season, they finished seventh in the top flight, however from 2002 to 2008, they were relegated five times in six seasons, due to their inability to reduce their outstanding debt which resulted in the football club being banned from signing new players during that time. In August of 2007, a business based in Istanbul, vowed to take them back to the top flight making them one of the top five clubs in the country, but they were met with lots of suspicions from the fan base, and then they handed over the ownership to another bloke called Mehmet Sepil in 2014. Anyway, they’re back in the Super Lig as a solid mid table/weaker top half team. Why am I bringing all this up? Because apparently Abramovich is looking to possibly buy the club himself, after being sanctioned from the UK. It’s a crazy crazy story and may you could look into this, not to mention, they are not only a rare example of a club that is considered a neighbourhood club, as well as the fact that they’ve played in 3 different stadiums since 2011, but also in 1969, they became the first Turkish football team to play a semi-final of a European competition.

And now something you cannot know unless its pointet out to you: Nobody say Meiderricher, not even people from here. They get called MSV, MSV Duisburg or Meiderreicher Spielverein. Bayern, Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg. Bayern introduced me to the sport, Eintracht Frankfurt… I don't know I guess I just like some of their players lol. And I've spend some time in Überlingen in Baden-Württemberg, and Freiburg is the one of the city “nearby”, so there's that.

Saarbrücken are also still in the DfB Pokal right now, as the first 4th division team to ever make it to the semi finals, going up against Leverkusen soon. And with everything going on in the world right now, theres potential for a historic upset there.

I am Kaiserslautern-fan since I can think and it is just a pity what happened to this great club.

You should do a video on which english top flight records would be different if not only those past 1992 were taken into account (jimmy greaves all time leading scorer instead of Sherear for example)

If you are reading this comment, I jus want to let you know an interesting fact about german language : instead of writing '1st'/'2nd'/'3rd', when you want to rank, in german you write the number followed by a point. As you can see "2. Bundesliga" and "3. Liga" can be translated as "2nd Bundesliga" and "3rd Liga". There are also some clubs in germany that are self-named first like "1. FC Cologne/Köln" meaning they were the first club of the town. Here, Köln club's name can be translated in "first football club of Cologne". It's that simple. Don't hesitate to correct me if I've done grammar errors.

The image at 9:26 showing Christoph Daum is misleading, since he was never the manager of Kaiserslautern.

Saarbrücken actually is, as a 4th tier team, still in the german national cup, playin semifinals in the near future. Furthermore the rest of the Regionalliga (Regional-league I would translate to) is recently canceled due to corona, and Saarbrücken is supposed to be promoted into 3rd tier with that cancelation.

Can we do this for other leagues too? Especially ones we're not familiar with.

If you mention that the Frankfurt squad has been dismantled, maybe mention that in the previous season they only went out of Europa League semi-final in a penalty shootout - so they got pretty good, and were thus dismantled. True, but the third Division isnt called Bundesliga, only liga because it's managed by the dfb, not the dfl like the two Bundesligas

Thanks for the clip. Not meaning to nitpick, but I'm guessing you'd like to know how to correctly pronounce the league and city names, like, for future stories maybe? We don't say Zwei Bundesliga, Drei Bundesliga etc. (or Two Bundesliga, Three Bundesliga for that matter.) In German it would be Zweite (Second) Bundesliga, which is pronounced TSVITE (kinda rhymes with "brighter", starts with the German "z" which you Brits only use in words like Tsunami, and we pronounce the "w" like you would pronounce a "v") Then it's Dritte (Third) Bundesliga. That one's pretty much pronounced like it is written. (But it's closer to "Dritter" than "Dritty" if you were wondering). Oh and the "schweig" in "Braunschweig" rhymes with "Spike". (with that hard k) Oh and the city's name is "Karlsruhe". Karlsruher means "of Karlsruhe". Kinda like if you had a "London's FC" Sorry if i'm being annoying, you've done a very good job, but that makes it even weirder when the ear stumble across something that sounds wrong - so I'm hoping you take these corrections as they're intended, which is like, a little help, not moaning.

In German, a dot following a number is an ordinal indicator. So 2. Bundesliga is "zweite (second) Bundesliga" and 3. Liga is "dritte (third) Liga"
