John is a jazz drummer playing metal - you can see it in his technique and hear it in his feel and dynamics. He's absolutely insane.

For all the people looking for the name of the ride, this is a comment from another video of John Longstreth on the sickdrummermagazine channel: "I once did a job as a drum tec on an event where Origin played. I know for sure that one of the rides ( the one on the right-hand side ) was a Meinl Mb 10 Custom Mega Bell Ride in 22"."

It's one thing to hear a drum track in a song and then to actually see the drummer doing it. I mean, hearing Saligia without Video you're already thinking the drumming is nuts, but seeing it... I never realized before that the song has so many awesome little licks and fills (maybe it hasn't because live drummers often play different ones to make things more interesting and varied or maybe because they are bored, lel) , simply awe-inspiring.

that might be the angle the music was recorded at. the drums come through crisper and faster since the recorded is right behind the set so the rest of the music is lagging especially since i imagine the speakers are facing out towards the crowd. that is....if it's recorded the way i think it is.

Anything after 130 bpm - kicks can't be heard. Definitely need something at least basic for eg. an Alesis DM5 to put on a way higher pitch, so the kick sounds almost click-y. I'm sure he had that or similar equipment, but whoa it sure got lost in what I'm guessing was a big reverberate-y room or hall they were playing in.

I will clarify: Certain bands (e.g., Origin, Viraemia) sell themselves on the technicality, heaviness, and brutality of their music. "Emotional playing" isn't even part of the equation. It's like when someone listens to Altars of Madness or Symphonies of Sickness and says "He can't sing." It's not that they're TRYING to sing and failing. They're not singing at all; they're screaming (or grunting, growling, whatever). Does that makes sense? I hope to clarify my initial statement.
