The Mitsubishi F-2 is a fighter aircraft jointly researched and produced by Japan and the United States. Produced by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Lockheed Martin for the Japanese self-defense forces with a ratio of 60% on the Japanese side and 40% on the US side. Among the major technology companies such as General Electric, Kawasaki, Honeywell, Raytheon, NEC, and Kokusai Electric each will be responsible for different parts, with final assembly being done in Japan by MHI. Production began in 1996 and the first aircraft entered service in 2000. This is a multi-role aircraft, based on the F-16 Fighting Falcon, which first flew on October 7, 2000. 1995. Currently, there are 90 aircraft equipped with the Japanese self-defense forces. It is considered one of the most expensive multi-purpose aircraft in the world with a price of 108 million USD/unit (2004).
