First fell in love with song when I was 16. Here I am at 27 and this song means more to me now then it ever did. I was in a abusive relationship for 6yrs and looking back on it he treated me like someone he hated. Called me terrible things, controlled me, gaslighted me, forced sex on me even when I fought him, beat my spirit down, racked up 10k on my credit cards and secluded me from my loved ones so I felt like I had no one to turn to. 3 month after leaving him a reconnected with a great friend from college who I am now dating and couldn't be happier. He treats me so amazing and all of the things he loves about me are things my ex used to hate about me. He especially liked to attack is my intelligence (Though I had more schooling and better grades....) and my current boyfriend tells me all the time how smart and brilliant I am. So long story short this song means something so different to me now and means so much more to me now.

I don't get it. She's a great guitarist, good vocalist, and can make good songs, yet people still act as if she's nothing special. If she doesn't have any talent whatsoever, then how come Steve Vai talks highly of her, and how come she was handpicked by Michael Jackson *and* Alice Cooper, two of the most highly respected artists in history, to perform with them? My grandmother introduced me to this band brings back memories she died a year ago. I play guitar she thought it was amazing how this girl played the guitar and now hearing it years later pop up in my notifications for the first time kind of a coincidence. Wished I could have had more time with her this song just gives me a whole new meaning. Knowing her she probably introduced her for her guitar but for a woman to woman who have battled with demons and choosing the wrong people In her life. It was like she wants me to do better than what she was able to do for herself. My grandmother died of early onset dementia and sepsis from a uti at just 70. She wasn't perfect made many mistakes in her life not the typical grandmother you see in decent families but I know she loved me. And I hope in her last moments she knew and felt that I loved her too. A grandmother who buys gifts and has it all together I'd trade gifts anyday to spend more time with her. She was poor never got too much from her but I can't blame her because of her circumstances in life and her choices that led her down a rabbit hole. If you have a loved one despite what anyone says please spend time with them. Family is all you got even if they aren't perfect forgiveness and understanding. Some things can be forgiven

I had an abusive boyfriend who mentally abusived me alot. I always felt like i wasn't enough. And to him I wasn't. I was always just a cry baby who needed to grow a back bone. I used to listen to this a lot when I was stuck in an abusive relationship. I've been out of it for six years, and listening to that song again makes me realize how far I've been.

Literally same 😂. I made the mistake of marriage and it was a rough go to end all of that.

According to you, reminded me of my past toxic and abusive ex. The one who threatened to leave constantly, told me I’m fat and never gonna find a husband. Now tho, I found someone who tells me perfect and beautiful, who hasn’t left my side for 2 years despite my mental illness, makes me feel normal and loved for once. Know your worth. ❤️❤️❤️

I hope you can heal that mental illness...sounds like your ex was a narcissist and you suffer from complex ptsd due to that among possibly other stuff. So happy you have found someone to lift you up and love you for you 💕 When you find that one that hugs you so tight that all the broken pieces fall back into place... Big ole hugs from me to you ❤️ much love and respect for being strong enough to leave that ex ...that is one powerful move on your part.

I feel like shes singing according to you to my parents and I'm still struggling for their acceptance and I'll be 29. According to him is my husband saying all these things. He tells me everyday I'm beautiful and wonderful.

Listening to my daughter's old iPod from when she was about 12, I came across this song and at first thought it was Avril Lavigne (who also kicks serious ass IMHO), but sorted out it wasn't her, did a search and found this chick Orianthi. Holy S*** this is good. Now I have another member of my kick-ass guitar-pounding fem-rocker pantheon. Got this old guy rocking along and I've thanked my 21-year-old girl for leaving this jewel for me to stumble across.

Actually, about half of Van Halen’s songs fit this description.

I remember first discovering this song 12 years ago and it is still one of my favorite songs to listen to. It’s still sad to know that a lot of people don’t know anything about her or who she is nowadays.

What a privilege it is to see such a stellar talent blossom into her own right. Watching this kid play next to some of the most talented rockers on the planet is a testament to her ability and incredible appeal. Rock and roll never died. It's living in the licks of kids like Orianthi and a legion of people who just get it.

It had a comeback on tiktok (esp among people recovering from abusive relationships).

Small detail, but I really like how the last lyric is about “according to him”. That as much as you’re complimented and appreciated and as much as you appreciate that and want to write songs about it, the rude, spiteful, or abusive partners are always the ones that stick with you the most. They close out the song. Because you never forget how those words, those actions made you feel. And not in the good way.

Her label wanted to promote her as an Avril Lavigne/Kelly Clarkson-clone,instead of a serious blues/rock artist. That didn´t worked,they dropped her.She joined Alice Cooper´s touring band and was too busy playing for him,instead of pursuing her solo career. Then she did the dumbest thing ever,she left Alice Cooper´s band and hooked up with Ex-Bon Jovi guitarist R.Sambora.She completely embarrassed herself in public with that drunk & coked up old fart,basically becoming his toygirl. They made an album together that literally nobody give 2 sh*ts about and a number of really cringey live gigs,where he was drunk/coked up his nostrils,gropping her on stage and what not. Then they broke up and she did nothing for the next 2 years. Now she ended with Frontiers Records,the italian label where all the washed up 80s rockstars are signed.

I adore this song! I always have ever since it came out. These days It reminds me of my crappy ex boyfriend and how he used me and didn't care about me at all, I was just a toy he used to satisfy his selfish needs. He just couldn't except me. But now I've found the love of my life who thinks I'm so beautiful and perfect in every way and there's nothing wrong with me at all even if I think there's a bunch of things wrong with me. He's the one I've been searching for all this time I don't want anyone else :-)

That guitar solo! When I listened to this on the radio at the time, I was surprised to hear such heavy guitar work in a pop song, especially in a time where rock, and even pop rock has sadly disappeared from mainstream radio.

She's a legit guitar shredder. She did all those amazing solos herself, and that's what really set her apart. Without that, this would've just been another bog-standard pop-rock song.
