One of my favorite money savers is cutting my own hair using the unicorn ponytail cut. Your hair looks to be about the same length as mine, so you could try this, too. Wet your hair, comb it all forward, gather it into a ponytail between the top of your head and your forehead (more towards the forehead if you want the layers shorter in the front), then put another hair band further down on the ponytail at the approx length you want your hair (start longer as you can always go shorter), then cut the ponytail straight across with very sharp hair scissors on the far side of the second hair band. Take out both hair bands, comb it out, part wherever you like, and you have perfect layers. Style as you like. I just scrunch mine with some Paul Mitchell hair lotion, let it air dry, and go. Let us know if you try it. The money I save goes to buy my survival food!

It’s such a blessing that you have your mom. She’s adorable and seems as sweet as you. I love the idea of so much mood lighting in your garden and deck. ❤ I grew up with parakeets and had several after I was on my own. They’re great pets!! Part of the family. I don’t can or garden. My family has. We come from farmers so I should have inherited some of that ability, but I was the only one that didn’t have the green thumb.

I bought more food when Covid and the lockdowns started, but I’m more lax on buying food now. Partly because prices are ridiculous and partly I’m tired of rotating and figuring out what needs to be used up. I don’t preserve food, it’s just me and my husband now living here & we don’t eat as much as we use to.

Oh my gosh, I know that was a lot of work cleaning everything and organizing everything into bins… Those mice have really caused anguish in your household! So glad you are a trooper and are able to do the work that makes you feel comfortable about your food storage. My hats off to you, Ellen!

A couple other anti mouse suggestions came from a friend when we had a mouse problem in our camper. Stuffing scented dryer sheets in crevices under our sinks and in the back of cabinets. The other thing. They supposed to not like is lavender oil. I put it on a cotton ball and set it in a pop bottle cap and put that in my food cabinets because it’s food grade safe.

Hi Ellen , I’m a widow at 69 one person I vacuum seal my extra food, freeze, or vacuum seal mason jars . I used to garden and canning but no more. I make chia seed jelly for refrigerator.

Pantry looks great! Ever since we bought those plug in things for mice at Home Depot we haven't seen any more mice. You could buy those little sachet bags to put your mint in for your pantry drawers or just put a mint tea bag in each drawer. I have jars of pasta, beans, rice, 15 bean soup etc stored. No canning for me, prefer to buy. I got off those coffee creamers because they hurt my stomach. I switched to half n half with sweetener and cinnamon. It's very good. Have a restful day Ellen ❤

Hey Ellen! The pantry looks nice. When I do that I call it a purge! It includes the fridge too - Toss out expired food dead spices etc wipe down the shelves and reorganize then I celebrate 🎉😂 Sometimes I feel a little guilty with the 1 and done stuff but I get over it fast!

You’re pantry looks great. A lot of work but when you go in there to get something you’ll be so glad you organized it, that’s for sure. Your hard work pays off for many many months. I do the same thing with recipes. Something I like that I see I forget about it and don’t use the some of the ingredients I bought. I thought I was the only one.

Hey, Ellen. Happy Sunday almost Monday. I have hazelnut in my cup...been a while and am enjoying it. Couldn't find anything new at Aldi. Hoping they will bring back the cherry they had last summer. 🤣🤣 Your son was supposed to pick up those worms a year ago. They could have wiggled over to his house by now. 😁 🪱🪱🪱🪱🏠 Great book! That will really be a nice addition to your home library. I was thinking...would be fun if you did a use up your freezer summer challenge for a short term..like 2 or 4 weeks. A seasonal challenge and people can comment what they create etc. Just a thought. You pantry looks so wonderful. Your hard work definitly paid off. 😂🤣 yep those worms could have crawled there by now! A summer freezer cook down is a great idea! I'm so glad that pantry is done. I have a "tender trap" that I want to set up in there. Finding a dead mouse in there would totally gross me out! 🤢

Took the day off and went to a Vintage Camper show at a local State Park. Of course while we were out we went out to dinner, so did spend money along with some other shopping that needed to be done. The pantry looks great. I've been trying to make the effort to eat down my pantry and freezer. Here on the farm we put out mouse/rat poison all the time and if I see one in my house I set the traps immediately.

I wish I liked to can...

I just seen a video of hemp hearts milk made easy . 1 cup of hemp hearts 4 cups filtered water Add any sweetener you like maple syrup or two dates some cinnamon or even raspberries if you like and blend in a high speed blender . I used dates it was good for my coffee. Next time I will use a good vanilla extract. Just a tip..

KZread has tutorials for easy diy bucket mouse traps that are very effective. The materials are easily accessible: soda pop can, 5 gallon bucket, a plank of wood, etc. I've used it to catch chipmunks in my garden; it works really well. Just set it up near your garage.

It’s so nice your family has passed down a love of gardening. I grew up in the inner city of Chicago, lots of apartment buildings. My best friend’s mom had a small garden with flowers and vegetables. My favorite flower in her garden was lily of the valley and Veg was rhubarb. She made the best rhubarb bread. Great memories ♥️

I don't really preserve too much food these days. I only buy enough food that will maybe last a month two in my freezer and with the fresh vegetables I only buy what I can eat for maybe 2 weeks at a time. If something looks like it may start to go bad I will either cook a meal around that item or I will put in a freezer bag . And those will then get used in a pot of soup or stew most of the time but I have used for smoothies as well. I don't even dry my herbs and longer. Takes too much time . I will use the fresh herbs for as long as they last and maybe freeze to use for recipe. Long ago when I was raising my family I canned a variety of foods, made homemade jellies and jams, I pickled vegetables and then would can those. I also baked a lot and would freeze my baked goods as well. Hydrating does not interest me . . I canned and I froze and I baked and I loved doing all of it....and now I do not care to have so much food that I need to preserve much at all.

I believe there is gardner DNA. My Mom's side of the family had avid gardeners. Her brother even owned a florest shop and my grandma had a big glass greenhouse. She sold flowers and eggs. My sister li ed to garden and so do one if my sons and my daughter. The gene totally skipped me 🤷‍♀️. I love to cook and I do preserve food. I just cant grow a plant to save my life.
