I think it’s important that you educate your viewers to the fact that you may only retain 20 clams in aggregate and that each person must keep their catch separate from any other person’s catch. Fish and game violations are very expensive. Softshells have a limit of 36 clams per person per day. Purple varnish clams have a limit of 72 clams per person per day. But you may only retain no more than 20 clams if they are cockles, littlenecks, butters or gapers but no more than 12 can be gapers. What I’m seeing in that yellow bucket appears to be an example of exceeding your daily catch. And I don’t want to see you get into trouble. Great video. Thanks for posting. I’m a new subscriber.

You are correct Jacob. He was way over his limit and could be ticketed just on this video. Each person has to dig their own limit and have a separate bucket. Exceeding the limit of clams is a misdemeanor and could result in jail time with a heavy fine. If you are going to present a video, please follow the law so people watching this get the right information.

@@terrymcdonald3388 And just to piggyback, Terry, you are correct about the violation being a misdemeanor. I was originally going to say it but I’ll say it here… All fish and game violations in Oregon are crimes and it’s up to a judge to reduce the charge from a misdemeanor to a violation, but that doesn’t always happen. Let’s all be careful to familiarize ourselves with the rules so everyone can continue to enjoy their harvests. Thanks for chiming in, Terry.

@@NeejTxujCi You may not combine catches; each person may only possess their own catch in a container separately from any other person’s. Therefore, each receptacle may not contain an excess of 20 clams in aggregate and those clams may not consist of more than 12 gapers (aka: horseneck). What is seen in the video is a violation of the established rules.

Digging in eel grass is extremely destructive and ruins critical habitat for juvenile salmon. Stay out of the eel grass!
