I have always liked the series! I am not surprised it didn't do a good job because it does not have good carpet deep cleaning performance. And I have one Oreck XL but the serial number is 4120H2BBC011653, and it's the type 7 model U4120H2B.

It does have good deep cleaning performance, just not on low pile commercial carpet. Medium pile residential carpet performance is great.

Agreed! They're better for home applications than commercial... However, if the only choices I had was a used Oreck or a brand new Kirby in an office or commercial situation, I'd choose the Oreck... Kirbys are expensive antiquated junk!

Ah, no they're not. For pile carpets, they are top tier. My extensive lab testing conclusively proves that. And to top it off, they are easy to push and work well on any carpet. 50 year life span? No problem for a Kirby.

@@VacLab - IDK... You're talking to someone whom still rocks a late 70s commercial-grade wide beater brush (Big Red) Eureka upright that I got used back in the 90s (And I can still get parts and bags for it, too)! That "Sherman Tank" is kind of hard to beat, Captain!

@@Jhihmoac the single biggest problem with the XL21 is lack of height adjustment for low pile carpets. Medium and high pile performance is great though.
